I didn't plan this but I'm coincidentally playing through LEGO Star Wars - The Complete Saga right now.

One of my closest friends growing up had this on PS2 back in the days and I always thought it was very fun when I got to watch or play a bit over at his house. But I never owned the game myself before and got to actually play the full thing on my own time.
So, buying the PC release on a Steam sale was kind of me using my adult independence to get myself a little childhood wish.

The game is decent casual fun. It's very simple, forgiving, and as a Star Wars fan, it's pretty fun seeing these simplified recreations of the movies and getting to control some characters of the movies that you usually don't get to, even if it's pretty rudimentary.
But having gotten through a bit over half of the story mode now, it definitely isn't as great as I used to think it was. It's quite repetitive, some of the character-switching can be tedious, the collectathon element of these LEGO games are kind of obnoxious to me, and I had some moments that actually frustrated me when I got stuck on a screen because I didn't interact with one specific bush in the scenery or whatever.

I'm gonna finish this since it's an interesting one-time experience and makes for good short bursts of mainly brainless gaming, but I'm certain I won't touch any of these LEGO crossovers with other franchises after this because of how reductive the gameplay really is. I used to think they were more than they are.

But seeing all these Star Wars environments again did make me think about trying to play another Star Wars game soon. So, maybe... Just maybe I'll be playing Star Wars: Force Unleashed, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer or the PlayStation 3 tie-in game for Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith soon.

I felt similarly about the game when I replayed it. I did own the original game on GameCube and loved it, but I don't think the series aged well and I effectively wrote off playing any of the other LEGO games. I think my opinion was even worse, I felt them incredibly frustrating for some reason and just didn't have much fun or patience. I don't think I even did all the collect-em-up stuff that time, but I did as a kid.

I remember Racer and Episode III being good games as well! Of course, that doesn't mean much after establishing my taste was imperfect back then, but I have fond memories of Episode III, and Racer is always good fun too! On the other hand, as a fan of the Wii port of TFU, I later played it on Xbox 360 and retired it. So if you were to ask me, and you didn't, I'd recommend Ep3 :)

I honestly can't imagine going for a 100% run with these. The amount of arbitrary stuff in each level is bonkers to me. It must make the game 5 times as long if one would actually stop for every single interactive little thing just so it spits out some studs. So many long hallways with endless little noblets on the walls to press a button for. So many forests where you can pluck every single bush and flower. So many tables and chairs and glasses to move with your Jedi mind powers. So much absolute fluff.
The game actually conditioned me to ignore as much as possible. lol

I remember Racer and Episode III being good games as well!

I remember playing a little bit of Racer growing up and thinking it's kind of hard, but otherwise a solid WipeOut-esque racing game. I've been meaning to give it a proper whirl for years.
The Episode 3 game I never touched myself, but I believe I had a friend growing up who owned and liked it. I would love for it to be one of those rare cases where a movie-to-videogame-adaptation actually turned out decent.
Either way, for as flawed and odd as the prequels were, I love exploring extended versions of those in other media. So, both of those games have that inherent charme for me.

I got the PC version of Force Unleashed in my backlog. I definitely wanna give it a try. I remember it being really well received when it came out way back when.
All 3 of those games have been on my list of games to try out for a pretty long time now. It's just a matter of which one first, hah. It very well might be Episode 3, since it seems to be the shortest anyway. But I might just burn out on Star Wars stuff altogether for a while once I finished the LEGO game.

I mean, I was kid and it was one of the few games I owned, much less one that was multiplayer and that replyable :P Replaying it, that got old fast. I think I had more fun throwing stuff around in the starting room in Prey XD

That's fair! No harm trying it at some point :) You may like it more than I did, and if nothing else it's a classic and worth at least seeing. I have very, very fond games of the Wii port though. I think I played it like 5 times all the way through!

On that note, I realized I don't have Ep3 on my completions, even though I'm pretty sure I beat it in some way at some point and don't plan to replay it again. As for movie adaptations, I need to try the LotR ones. I think I liked...one of them that we had, but never beat.

I had totally forgot about May the Fourth, but now that you've brought it up, I'll probably play something. I could start up Jedi Outcast (since I got it and Jedi Academy both on Switch), I've wanted to go through Super Star Wars already and it's short enough to beat in a day so I could go beat the first one, I do have KOTOR2 but I know I won't be sticking to it this moment. Could also play a quick crappy Star Wars game I got, like Star Wars: Yoda Stories or something. We'll see if anything comes of it!

lmao ok dad!

(After taking a break from ESO, I actually wish I could because now's the perfect time for a fast-paced linear single-player game.)

For sure! Right now it's a mix of "I'm playing a few other long games" and "My laptop's been having some issues lately, so I don't want to commit to KOTOR2 right now."

But trust me...I'll get to it.

Yeesh, KOTOR 2 is especially a bad game to play on laptops having issues. Godspeed, soldier!

Just figured I'd drop by to say I played some Jedi Outcast as a May the Fourth thing, but only for about 46 minutes. I dunno if it's the port or what, but the game seemed very janky in a lot of ways. Not even the "old game" kinda jank, stuff like bad elevators and hit detection. I'll try it again at some point, but it wasn't all that fun to play for the time I did play it, and I have a LOT of good stuff in my backlog so it'll probably be a while.

Planning to play the new lego star wars really soon!

Maybe a controversial opinion, but unfortunately I think the old star wars games didn't age so well...
