I would really love to play this game and as I have a lot of time for gaming right now, this would be the perfect time to play it, buuut I'm not getting a Nintendo Switch at the moment.
I would like to get Breath of the Wild for the WiiU, but I'm scared it's bad :/. Anyone got the game for the WiiU who can say something about it?
Back when I bought Dragon Age Inquisition I wasn't sure if it would run fine on my computer, so I got the Playstation 3 version thinking it should be okay and then it was so horrible (everything looked horrible to be specific, I didn't get further than that) that I sold it and got the PC Version instead after all... I don't want something like that to happen again.

I have played the first couple of hours of the game on Wii U and it runs fine. I have read that the fps drops are slightly worse on Wii U and the Visuals are better on the Nintendo Switch, with anti aliasing, higher field of view and 1080p instead of 720p.

The only things I've heard are from the pre-release things, the Switch runs at a higher resolution, and has a more stable framerate. And from a comparison video that gamexplain did a couple of months or so ago where they compaired WiiU footage from the Switch, the Switch did look a lot better.
That said the Switch version has had some minor frame rate issues running in the dock but not in handheld mode. handheld it runs at 720p, and docked 900p.
I have neither so my choice is fairly easy when I get around to wanting to play it - get a switch. as the WiiU is practically dead and there aren't that many games I want to play on it.
If I was in your situation though I would wait to see if DigitalFoundry or GameXplain do a comparison video or techinical analysis, and make your decision based on that.

They released a day 1 patch for the game (on the Switch atleast) that addresses the framerate issues. I haven't experienced any issues thus far

According to DigitalFoundry the framerate issues in docked mode are still there even with the Day 1 patch.
Not that this would stop me from playing the game, I'm kinda used to consoles having non-perfect framerates.

I'm playing the Switch version in TV dock mode and I've only notice frame rate drops during some auto saving moments not all, but some.

And now Digital Foundry have done a comparison:
I'm actually surprised the WiiU version looks and performs as well as it does, and if I was a WiiU owner I would actually consider playing it on that. :)

Im playing on the wii u and it runs great. it actually has a memory update on the disc which was strange cause my wii u is not connected to the net.ook about 15 mins I actually bough a wii u to play it and am way more satisfied than with my friends switch.hope this helps

I got it for Wii U. I couldn't justify spending $300 for a new console to get the only game I want for it when I have a console to play it already.
I had to work all weekend and my copy should be here today, I have been eagerly mashing the refresh button on my tracking info. It has been awhile since I was hyped for a game, especially one I have actually tried to avoid most info on outside of trying to find issues with the wii u version.

Thanks for all the input. I've decided to get the WiiU version. I'd rather buy a Switch later once it's cheaper and once there are more (exclusive) games for it. Now... hopefully I can still find a copy of the game :D

Yay for you! I've just picked up the Wii U version myself and I think it runs pretty great. I mean not perfect of course but the Switch version doesn't run perfectly either :p

Reminds me of whether to get Twilight Princess on GameCube or Wii. I eventually played both and I much preferred it on the GameCube. All that sword swinging with the Wiimote got very old very fast. I sold the Wii to my sister after playing just a few games, but I still have my trusty Cube just for Windwaker and Twilight Princess.
I sincerely doubt I'll ever get to play this though. I'm not buying any more consoles, and the only person I know with a WiiU is my nephew who lives 400 miles away!

They're almost indistinguishably imo. I already had a Wii U so I got the Wii U version. It'd be pretty dumb if I were to buy a new console just for this game.
From what I've heard, the game plays much better on a pro controller and a new pro controller for the switch is much more expensive than one for the Wii U. The gamepad itself is really good, much better than the joypads from the looks of things in terms of comfort and ease of use.

I felt kind of dumb for dropping $200 on a Wii-U a few months ago just to play the 10 or so games I was interested in, but now I'm glad I did. I wouldn't be able to resist playing this game, and I seriously doubt I'll ever buy a Switch.
From what I've read both versions have frame-rate issues, but in different sections of the game.

I only have 15ish hours in so far, and I have only had on instance where I had a noticeable frame slow down on the wii u, and it happend when i fought my first enemy after leaving the plateau. I have no had one since, even when I have accidentally engaged 10 enemies at once.
I do have to say this game is amazing and for once the hype train wasn't misleading. I have a hard time giving a game a 10/10 but something like a 9.75/10 there are a few very minor issues like the frame rate drop.
I do feel that this game is setting a new bar though for open world games. It has been a very long time since I went into a game and just played not focusing on quests. I am simply wandering, and going from place to place by saying "That looks neat over there wonder what's there?" "OH a shrine is up here! and I fell while climbing, oh another shrine!" I think this is one of the few games that if you use a walk through at any stage it will ruin things, I even have found it more fun to play with the pro UI as to just let myself explore with no map pointing me where to go. Climb to that high point, get frustrated as the storm comes rolling in as you near the top and slide down to your last real foot hold. Wait and then climb up and scout the area then glide your way down to where you want to go.
Worth the wait and most fun I have had in a video game in a while, heck I am on the verge of skipping my raid nights in EQ, and those who know me know I don't miss raids :p

I'd like to chime in as someone who actually has a Switch and isn't going off of assumptions and hearsay, that the game does perform better on Switch both with graphics and framerate (having compared it to the Wii U version at a friend's house). Controller preference varies from person to person, but unless you are insanely sensitive to layout minutiae, nothing is objectively better. The Pro Controller on the Wii U is great, as always, but I ultimately felt no differential in comfort or maneuverability between it and the default grip that came with the Switch.
Basically, if you have a Wii U and do not plan on getting a Switch, get it on Wii U. It'll play just fine.
If you do have a Switch, or if you're planning on getting one and you don't feel an obsessive desire to play it right this minute, then hold out and get it for Switch.
If you do not have a Switch or a Wii U then I'd suggest splurging for the Switch. If I had to choose, I'd take the gamble of a console that may or may not succeed over one that demonstrably failed. The Wii U has some great games, but it's not a very extensive library, and a lot of its best games are on multiple consoles (Smash 4, Yoshi's Woolly World), are being ported to Switch (Mario Kart 8), or are receiving Switch sequels that will more or less consume the online player base of the original (Splatoon).

I am 20+ hours in, and haven't been to a town yet. I am exploring my first area outside of the starting zone meticulously, and finding some great secrets which this game has plenty of. Horses control like tanks, and I don't really see a need in using one yet.
Also the Joycon input delay issue is really annoying, and I hope there's a firmware update to address this

So far I don't regret getting the WiiU version. There are a few problems that are somewhat annoying, but it's not too bad. The game tends to slow down a bit in towns and some random places. As for battles, I've only had this occur once so far. Sometimes enemies appear really late, like only once I'm already in their range to spot me, which is kinda annoying. Also, high quality textures and stuff load really late, like only 2 meters in front of me most of the time. Buuut I don't know if any of these are WiiU problems or not and none of it bothers me too much.

I feel this game is setting a new bar for open world games. I personally have not enjoyed just spending time in a game on this level just exploring in a very long time.

Bought a Switch Pro Controller yesterday, and its opened up a whole new world. It feels really good, when compared to the provided Switch controller. The provided Switch controller isn't necessarily bad, however for me, it felt a little too small and confined, whereas the Pro controller feels nice and comfortable

Personally, I went with the Wii U version.
Depending on who speaks, FPS and graphics are pretty much the same on both versions but could possibly vary a little.
I already had a Wii U and have my reserves regarding the Switch overall.
The be fair, If you do not own any of the two consoles, I would go for the switch since the Wii U had a pretty poor game library and is pretty much dead.
If you own a Wii U on the other hand, I would get the game for Wii U unless you wanted to buy a switch anyway.
I will admit I am displeased with the fact the controller screen is not used as a map and inventory like it was supposed too in any of the two versions,
and I kind of miss dungeons and acquiring items, but otherwise, the game IS GREAT!

So I am currently 111 hours into the game and this is all of the map I have seen thus far, as well as my "stats" (Rupees, hearts, stamina, and total Korok seeds found)
I would hate to be someone watching me play this game, or any open world game, because I try and explore everything as thoroughly as I possibly can.
