Where to even begin? Monster Hunter World is such a seamless, mechanically complex, and just plain fun action game with a variety of bosses and biomes. I've played a lot of these games, going back to tri- on the Wii, and this feels like the perfect balance of hardcore difficulty and massive quality of life changes. The game runs like a dream on PC and has tons of content. I only finished the main story and have dozens of hours of content left in the base game alone. No notes, a perfect video game. Excited to move on to Iceborne!Updated 3.5 Days Ago

Pros:•Story
•Soundtrack
•Graphics
•Mechanics
•Controls
•Quality of Life Improvements (Armor Skills, Gathering, etc.)
Cons:
•Way too many Monster effects leave you in long flinch states, leading to unfair hits/deaths (Wind, Tremor, Roar, etc.)
•Tutorials and NPC dialogue are constantly spewed at you during and after quests
•Needless complicated Locales
•Lots of new Monsters' "skeletons" are heavily based off others

TOP FUN THINGS TO DO:
⭐️ Working with a team to hunt down monsters.
THE UNIQUES:
💎 Gameplay is a constant surprise.
💎 It's a grind but strangely fun.
PLAYER GAMING REQUIREMENTS:
💼 RPG.
💼 Action.
💼 Co-op.
PROS:
+ Hunting down monsters.
+ It's a hard but rewarding game.
+ Use all weapons to get a best out of this game.
+ Killing the same monster isn't as boring as you think.
+ When you're able to work as a team, it's very satisfying for sure.
CONS:
- It's very dependant on teammate, unless you have strong equipment.
- It's a grind for certain players.
VERDICT:
It may say I have hardly any hours on this game but I've played this enough to give a review. I did most of my hunting solo and only called for help with the major monsters, it's difficult for sure but very rewarding once your on top of your monster. It's not for players who think they can slay a monster in minuets, it's a grind for sure and patience is needed for the more difficult monsters, I heavily recommend playing this with friends or else you in a world of cat and mouse.
Gameplay is absolutely stunning and is the selling point to this game, it's very smooth in every aspect. How the monsters react around the environment is so pleasing on the eye, it's so entertaining when two monsters square up to each other, it honestly feels like survival of the fittest out in the wilderness. I'd say the story needs work but can't complain with the work CAPCOM have put into this game.
Total Score = 79/100.
GAMEPLAY:
The player takes the role of a Hunter, tasked to hunt down and either kill or trap monsters that roam in one of several environmental spaces. If successful, the player is rewarded through loot consisting of parts from the monster and other elements that are used to craft weapons and armour, amongst other equipment. The game's core loop has the player crafting appropriate gear to be able to hunt down more difficult monsters, which in turn provide parts that lead to more powerful gear. Players may hunt alone or in a group of up to four players

I love me some Monster Hunter. World was a great entry point that got a lot of my friends into it, greatly enhancing my experience, even if I was disappointed at the lack of monsters that don't fit one of the key entry skeletons. Excellent fun is to be had for hundreds of hours, if you can get past an awkward onboarding experience.Updated 2 Months Ago

i play 100% solo.... and beaten xeno jiva solo.. after retired because of nergigante.. nergigante hardest compared to 3 dragon imo because agressive and can take player near distance and long distance..73 GRAPHICS texture could be better.. Outdated graphics but still good at that time..
71 AUDIO standarad monster hunter audio..
70 PUZZLE/QUEST DESIGN standard hub quest, fetch quest, slaying monster
76 COMBAT clunky combat, disgusting rolling, drink potion too slow, fatigue in combat with no reason at all, ridiulous hitboxes of monster. Not fluid combat.. how ever monster hunter formula not fail
76 BOSS ridiculous hitboxes of monster, too many roar monster, monster not hard but with many element that disturbing the player makes the boss hard.. but the boss fight is amazing like soul games
70 PLOT standard monster hunter
70 CHARACTER standard character.. No depth in each character
73 PACING quest pacing itself is good…
70 STORY TELLING linear with no plot twist.. Standard generic storytelling
76 MECHANICS weapon crafting mechanic, palico mechanic and exploration is superb
75 WORLD DESIGN/THEME world design and theme is good but a bit boring.. Too many layer of map make player confusing
73 OVERALL .. Good but not great.. Fun if you dont have other game to play and patient too learn the game
-1 FEATURES world map could be better, encyclopedia could be better, some marker should be bigger
72 TOTAL the flaws is in combat and boss… could be better in mh wild.. At this point wild hearts is better monhunt

This game really confuses me. Clearly there's something to it since so many people love it and rate it very highly, but I just really can't see any appeal at all.The game feels like it can't figure out whether it wants to be single player or multiplayer, and somehow ended up making both feel wrong. I played alone at first but quickly felt like this is definitely not how the games meant to be played, so I left it and waited to play with friends. But then playing with friends felt equally bad, having a longwinded process for joining each other, sometimes forcing the host to play the same level twice for it to work, and kicking you out of the group after every mission, making it feel like playing with others isn't how the game is meant to be played either.
The hub is an awful idea, as it makes the world feel totally disjointed, and makes every mission feel completely disconnected from the others.
The fighting is sluggish and unrewarding feeling across seemingly all combat types, with even the fastest paced weapons still seeming so unsatisfying to use. And my least favourite thing is actually the core focus of the game, fighting the monsters. They just aren't monsters. They're animals minding their own business, and they repeatedly run from you when you try to fight them. Why are we chasing this thing to the end of the earth just to kill it? It's extremely tedious having the combat get interrupted repeatedly since the thing you're fighting just wants to leave, it doesn't feel at all rewarding to kill something that doesn't even want to fight you, it feels so pointless to do, and it takes such a long time that there's no intensity to it at all. Why have boss fights where the boss doesn't want to fight? It makes me so confused.
The animals are very well made, all looking and acting fairly realistically, but I just don't personally see anything good in this game beyond that unfortunately.

Just did main story and some of the DLC content. Very fun combat with amazing monster designs. Story is basically only there for an excuse for you to hunt monsters. Probably the weakest part of the game, along with some of the event monsters hunts where you have to man a bunch of turrets. Very boring. Everything else is great. Not much to say other than I look forward to playing Monster Hunter Wilds co-op with some friends I convinced to play with.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Monster Hunter world is basically an anime game where you fight against dinosaurs as a hunter, in exchange for money. The game plays like most anime hack and slash games of the same genre, and it features spongey boss monsters. With the addition of Iceborne, the devs added high rank armor and weapons available for beginners, which completely ruins the balance of the game. I decided to start with the basic low rank armor and weapons but it was disappointing to see everyone playing with the defender armor/weapons, since i was the only one doing dogshit damage and dying in 2 hits. Even so, the game is a spam-fest where you press the same 3 buttons over and over to deal minimal damage, until eventually the monster dies. To elaborate in dark souls terms, its like in dark souls 2 when you fight the ancient dragon and you toe clip him for 20 minutes until he dies. Basically every monster is like a sponge (except maybe the smaller ones such as kulu yaku). Overall, i was hoping for a more soulslike approach to the combat, but instead got average anime hack n slash. Not to mention that after the level 5 quests you basically get "reskinned" areas (mostly the same monsters but now they drop advanced materials and deal serious damage) with one new area which is the elders recess which features the highest rank enemies. Final boss was so boring since also noone wanted to join my quest, and i was toe clipping him for 20 damn minutes. The game is a 5/10 for the repetitive gameplay, grueling combat, children tier story and lack of voice acting in half the dialogue (wtf). AKA, its an average game.

All I can say is… wow! What an exhilarating experience! This was my first Monster Hunter game and it was equal parts exciting, epic in scale, but also at time grindy and overly complex. I enjoyed the awesome feeling whenever a new terrifying monster was revealed and they did a great job really bringing the world to life and making you feel like you could take down great beasts despite impossible odds. The maps are also extremely impressive. I kept discovering new nooks and crannies with every revisit. Although I have to say— this game is the epitome of Japanese game design, with so many needlessly complex mechanics layered on top of each other, confusing menu design and endless tutorials. I appreciate that there is a lot to do but this feels like an enormous MMO stuffed into a console game and it is overwhelming at times. I frequently had no idea what all the systems did until I was forced to do some research when the later monsters got too hard. I also have to say that this game is much, much better played Co-op than single player. But I had to suffer through endless connection drops and weird game decisions, like the fact that you cannot start most missions until all players watch the cutscenes and then have to drop out. Despite all these frustrations I think I have a better sense of what this game is about and why it’s so popular. I’m not such a die hard that I’ll play through the rest of the content past the main story but I’m intrigued enough now to keep an eye out for future Monster Hunter titles!Updated 3 Months Ago

this game is awesome lol. during the pandemic me and a few friends played the crap out of this one. i picked it up again later and remembered how much i love monster hunter! world did a lot right, in spite of how much it changed the formula. i main lance but learned some of the other weapons and boy is it just a fun experience to play against a monster you match up well against lol. fatalis in particular i learned to use lance to great effect. i love that you're able to have build variety and customization.the only really big drawback of this game is deco farming. rng talismans were nice because they open up build variety. rng decos are not nice because they limit build variety. many of the best decos have abysmal drop rates. on the plus side, build guides are more consistent, but tempered teostras are gonna go nearly extinct just so i can get a second earplugs+ jewel 4 :(

Attempting to streamline for me was the best decision to get Monster Hunter to be more palatable, it added depth to its gameplay with the grapple hook and having the advantage of being on stronger consoles, the fights are more blockbuster and extremely momentous. This would create a fantastic base for the expansion to come.Updated 4 Months Ago

I loved playing this solo on ps4 for my first playthrough. I played it again on pc twice but only beat it once on pc. I had some issues with this game such as the zorah magdaros fight grind being kind of annoying and then xeno jiiva taking forever to solo even with high dps. The stun mechanic is also my bane and I hate it but once you get to high rank it becomes easier to get the immunity for it at least.I have 656.7 hours on steam as of July 22, 2024. I believe I played around 250-320 hours on ps4 on launch.

Monster Hunter World is no doubt an 'accessible' game, considering the rest of the series, but in that, with no basis, this game is so endlessly grindey. I didn't bother much with multiplayer, except for the achievements. Though I imagine it is much more fun with friends. I love games with customisation, which World has in spades, particularly with the addition of iceborne. I think Iceborne absolutely completes this game. I really do wish it was less of a grindfest, but in that same breath, I understand it is part of the appeal in these games. The story is basically nothing, which it mostly loses points for, from me. With completely unnamed characters and next to no story, you understand the focus is the monsters, but also, it is kind of hard to care about the monsters and the whole 'old world' 'new world' thing. But also they give you a cat and I could make it look like my cats. Also I made an incredibly hot man. The game doesn't give any slutty male armour options but modding makes up for that. Another game that I probably would only play on PC.Updated 4.5 Months Ago

This is easily one of my top games ever. I come back to it every couple of years and my most recent play through was just as wonderful. I’ve yet to get to iceborne and I’ll pick it up later in the year. Time and time again the environments and design blow me away. I could sink days and days into this game and not even notice. This was my first monster hunter, and since playing it for the first time back in 2019, I’ve only found myself craving more. I absolutely adore this game.Updated 5 Months Ago

Updated 6.5 Months Ago

good game, dont really see any of the problems that people have with the game, and i guess killing a monster a few times is too grindy for some people.fights can be a bit frustrating, the sheathing mechanic is kind of weird, i feel like the dodge can mess people up especially if they are used to just having i-frames like in soul's like games, just actually dodge away from the monster instead of into it and you'll be aight
not gonna sugar coat it, story is alright at best
aside from all the flaws it's still a game you could sink a few hundred hours into (hitting those flashy longsword moves are also satisfying asf)
