You could write a whole master’s thesis about the brilliance of this game, the community it formed, and the courses it spawned - the last exemplar of Nintendo’s creative, democratic age on a dying console. I’ll be sad to see it go.

A very good idea and a decent fun, but in the end, you can't help wondering what was the point.

Great game made even better by other creator's maps. The level designing is a blast as well.

A great Mario experience, to create your levels is such a genius concept and to play others levels is such a great way to keep the formula fresh as each level is always going to be a different creators vision, never being the same as the last. Even if it’s very short or very long.

Super Mario Maker suffers in its community-based elements but manages to turn level creation into its own fun game, creating an experience that’s fun for both creators and players alike.

I'm only disappointed in their algorithm for determining the difficulty of courses. Normal feels easy, while the jump to Expert is too high.

I still can’t believe Nintendo just gave us the tools to make our own Mario levels. It’s just too cool of them. But. They did it!

My levels probably aren’t the best ever made, but I had so much fun making them. A great time.

The Wii U would have sold twice as many consoles if this was a launch title

best level editor, I usually get bored while making levels, but not in this case.
I have clocked over 100 hours on this and am happy to get more!

It's crazy how this idea wasn't done sooner. Mario, making levels, and the Wii U gamepad are a match made in heaven. This game is really good, my only problems are how a few important items were missing at launch and how since the levels aren't professionally made it's hard to find quality ones. Otherwise an excellent game.

A solid Mario level editor that had tons of potential. The sequel refines everything from the original and the online has been terminated for this game, so I would point you to Maker 2 for a recommendation.

A really great game for Wii U(until the online goes down). The first Super Mario Maker is a joy to play. Now, when it comes to finding courses you often have to sift through a lot of iffy levels. That's unfortunate, but when you find a good level to play it definitely becomes rewarding.

Lots of wonderful things about this game. It was a real pleasure creating some hilarious courses and sharing them with the world. My brothers enjoyed making levels as well and it was tonnes of fun attempting to beat them. Great selection of items at your disposal, excellent choice of graphics and I loved the amiibo functionality. Awesome game!

A game that allows the imagination to run wild with the many different possibilities on offer. The free updates added much more substantial content compared to its sequel, improving the good experience to become something even greater.

Fantastic course editor. Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did since I'm not very creative.

An excellent creation game, and being a Mario game as well, the platforming gameplay is second-to-none. There's a wealth of options in the creation toolset, probably 50 different items or so, which can be changed and combined in different ways to create virtually endless levels. There are 4 different styles

Super Mario Maker is a great way to mark Mario’s 30th birthday, but it’s not concerned with being an overwrought history lesson. Instead, it’s a celebration that folds three decades of Mario into one accessible, powerful creation suite. The perpetual joke at the end of every 10 Mario Challenge run informing you that the Princess is in yet another castle hints at Super Mario Maker’s bigger promise: There will always be more levels to play thanks to the online creation community, and a virtually endless pool of challenges to overcome.
