This game really solidified the MMO Forza trend, and it was a quite-amazing. The setting of Australia, to this day, is unmatched by any other Horizon, and was built for flat-out racing. I really, really loved this entryUpdated 6 Days Ago

This is literally one of my go to comfort series if I'm being honest and not just for Forza Motorsport either. The game introduced me to a massive sandbox world with a boat load of events and just overall positive vibes that continue to make me happy to this day. I don't know what I can say at this point that hasn't already been said about the Horizon games, especially 3. But to me, Australia is one of the best places Horizon has been. It's many also due to the fact that you're the festival boss and are doing numerous events to get people to come to your festival. Not to mention you'll also get a chance to open new locations to gain new fans and more events on the map while also finding other things to do that pop up like one on one races that lead to Street Racing events and thus leads to Midnight Battles where you win cars if you finish first. The game starts you off slowly and ends up building up to a massive finale. By the time the credits roll you're not even done the entire game! There's still the numerous championships, festival upgrades, barn finds and other endeavors to look into. For a game with this amount of content that has tons of quality to it, this is certainly one hell of a bang for your buck for what you're getting if you paid the full CDN $80 Price Tag when it launched and that's not including all the bonus pack cars and expansions you could have gotten when this game was available. One of the best things here is that servers are still online and there's a healthy player base still playing the game. This means car designs by users are still available, not to mention online multiplayer is up and running. You can even still pick tuning upgrades/downgrades for your cars made by other users which can lead to zany speed trap sessions. For a game that was released in 2016, the graphics still hold up very well. Everything is so bright, vibrant and tropical and the cars are detailed heavily. Character models are a bit iffy, especially considering you don't really have one on one conversations with Keira or Warren as they tend to talk to you over the radio a lot with your silent protagonist. But the racing and cars are superb. There's brilliant track design and the blueprints will be able to give you some customization on how you want your races to go. You keep progressing, keep getting XP, skill points, wheelspins for doing pretty much any event or any skill chain you pull off. The barn finds are by far my favorite thing to do in this game as the mystery behind what's behind each door gives you excitement and anticipation. The soundtrack is superb as well. Artists like Justice, Diplo, Beastie Boys, CHRVCHES, blink-182, The 1975 and genres ranging from punk, pop, EDM, techno, alternative rock and classical will give you great summer vibes.
So for a game that has loads of quality content, well aged graphics, active severs after 8 years and a fantastic soundtrack, it seems almost impossible to find faults in the game. But there is. First off, Bucket List challenges are not fun. They're tedious. I'm sorry, but they just completely do not give you the fun of the races or showcases but instead frustrate you to tears especially some that are so ridiculously hard that you wonder if they even play tested a couple of them. One of the more annoying things also is that doing PR Stunts can be interrupted with you crashing into literal cars who shouldn't be on the road you're doing these on, so you'll have a great score and then they'll piss all over it by crashing into you while you can do little. I also feel Keira is kind of naggy and I could literally imagine her rolling her eyes if I made mistakes in a race or PR Stunt or just even getting out to do more events after a festival expansion. Warren is somewhat like this too but he's much less of it and his knowledge of cars makes him the more exciting character to be on the radio with.
Okay, yeah the bucket lists suck (no wonder they were thrown away after this game), having skill chains and PR Stunt attempts being pissed on by NPC Drivers can be annoying and you can't get any of the DLC anymore unless you search for some online codes or keys from third party websites, but this is still absolutely worth playing. 15 Hours in and I'm still not done the entire map. This game introduced me to Forza as a series and since then I have played almost every entry in the series from Motorsport 3 to Horizon 5 and the newest Motorsport game on Series X. This is absolutely worth your time. Even if you don't like racing games you should give this a chance, maybe you'll change your mind on your stance when you play this. Great game, but there's definitely some annoyances that detract from being a perfect game.

Technical improvements over Horizon 1 which were added in 2, much more open world bloat and unsatisfying progression than 1 but not as bad as 2. The best map and both DLCs are worthwhile especially Hot Wheels. The PC version's online has been broken for years and it crashes to desktop about once every two hours with no possible fixes. All these things considered I'd call it about as good as the first, but I've knocked it down a point for the loot boxes.Updated 1 Year Ago

This game is awesome! I played Horizon 4 before this, but I enjoyed this one much more. However, as this game came out before, I believe it's unfair to compare its sequel to it, so I'll talk about this game on its own merits without mentioning Horizon 4. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous as always and I loved driving through the varied terrain and landscapes in Southern Australia. The music selection has something for everybody, as there are multiple radio stations covering different genres, which is great. The story involves you winning races and pulling off stunts to obtain fans in order to grow a car festival that you are directing. There are 2 characters, Keira, who is like a manager, and Warren, a helper who is a car aficionado. The game isn't really about story or characters, but what's present here is sufficient. Plus, I was happy there wasn't any cringeworthy dialogue.
There are a shitton of cars to drive and collect in this game. You get credits for winning races and doing stunts, and you're going to need a lot of them if you want to collect every car in the game. Fortunately, there are lots of activities to do. The main activity are showcase events, which involve you racing against a major vehicle, like a train or a boat, and they're all really fun. Forza Horizon has my favorite car physics engine: driving just feels so damn good in this game. This is one of those games where anybody can pick it up and play it, but you can also fine tune any car to your liking. One thing I hate about racing games is rubberbanding, but it's implemented well here, at least on the normal difficulty levels. Forza does so much right.
Unfortunately, my main criticism with this game is how riddled it is with microtransactions. Every time you level up, you get to spin a wheel which allows you to win credits or cars. And of course you can spend real world money to get wheelspins. Some cars in the game can only be obtained through a wheelspin, so you're going to have to pray to the RNG gods, or increase your chances of getting those cars by spending real money on wheelspins. I've never been a fan of microtransactions, especially when they're implemented like this. It just discourages me from wanting to spend more time on the game and collect all of the cars.
Overall, this is a fantastic game. Even with my issues with microtransactions, I had a great time with it. But then again, I didn't bother trying to collect all of the cars; I just wanted to finish all the showcase events. Maybe I wouldn't like it as much if I was stuck spinning wheels all day ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

Overall similar to part 4 that I played first. Since I was generally already familiar with the process, I rushed through much faster here. Ultimately I have to say that some improvements have been made to FH4, which is why I prefer the fourth. I missed the story events very much in H3 and for me the bucket lists were not an adequate replacement either, the drift zones were rather annoying here because other vehicles were constantly in the way.As for the map, I would probably prefer H3, simply because of the variety. My favorites were Outback and Yarra Valley, of course the entire jungle area is great, Byron Bay was nice too. Surfers Paradise as a city, on the other hand, was significantly weaker for me than Edinburgh from Horizon 4.
Overall, however, an absolute top racing game without question, but in direct comparison I would prefer FH4 due to the improvements.
Here are a few more things that I noticed between FH3 and FH4:
Pos H3:
- Map looks a little bigger and very varied areas (jungle, outback, coast, etc.)
- several festival points and extensions
- Drivatars higher importance
- Better routes, especially off-road. But I see street circuits better in H4
- better rally feeling (e.g. in the outback), there wasn't enough in H4
- Wheelspins better because only credits or vehicles, no annoying clothes / accessories
Contra H3:
- The light cone from the headlight is very low at night (significantly better with H4 imo)
- Graphics slightly weaker than H4
- Already very slippery on a wet road, I often found it a bit exaggerated, could just be a feeling
- no story events (big plus for H4)
- no creation of your own routes
- Wheelspin cannot be stopped and no superwheelspins (nothing bad but noticeable)
- Drift zones are sometimes much more difficult than with H4, mainly because there are no ghost cars
- Bucket list tasks only with time or points, no 3 star ranking
- Festival extensions happen automatically, even if you don't want to do so immediately as soon as you return to the festival location (e.g. to change car / tune, etc.) and have too many fans
- Menus in H4 better (sometimes small things, would lead too far here)

main complaint is that it was kind of tough to keep doing races in championships and even once you unlocked fast travel anywhere later on it still ends up being a bit chore like just to hop from race to race. finished after fully upgrading all festival sitesUpdated 5.5 Years Ago

I don't typically play racing games very often; However, this one pulled me away from my other preferred genres. The large open land of Australia made for some fantastic race events and exploring with a huge variety of vehicles. It's more of an arcade racing than simulation and that is exactly what I love about it. Racing a Lamborghini through deserts and streams doesn't make any sense, but it's fun! Even though I made it through the main story events, I will be playing Forza Horizon 3 for many hours to come. Great game. 9.5/10.Updated 8 Years Ago

Forza Horizon 3 is a masterclass in open-world racing and bigger and better than its excellent predecessor across the board. It looks fantastic, the car selection and customisation is second to none, and the size and variety of the sprawling Australian outback is magnificent. Above all, Horizon 3 never loses sight of the fact that tearing through postcard-perfect locations should be fun, and it puts the tools in our hands to keep it that way, always. This is the racing game I’ve been waiting for, and it's officially my favourite thing on four wheels. A fair dinkum triumph, mates.Updated 8 Years Ago
