The timeshift ability is interesting and badly needed when in combat, even on the easiest difficulty the enemies are hard shooting. The need for constant cover to reload the timeshift abilities makes the gunfights slow. The aiming is difficult and chunky with controller, only when zoomed in at max and with the timeslow applied the aiming and hitting the enemies with crossbow and sniper is possible. They could´ve probably made very interesting puzzle sections with the timeabilities, but for me these sections where few, far apart and a bit frustrating. The graphic has not aged well and no trophys on PS3 is another negative. Still i had some fun with the game in some parts.
Overall probably a decent game in 2007, but hardly anything to recommend in 2024.

TimeShift = (HL2 + Crysis) / 2.Overall a good game - graphics, gunplay, atmosphere, time tricks. But the story and level-design are badly screwed up...
In the X360 version there are frame drops, and controls are not the most convenient, but in general it's ok

RecommendedA positive review comes down to "does the time shift mechanic make me feel like an unstoppable super soldier?" Yes, yes it does. And that's really all that matters. Enjoyable with some puzzles thrown in for good measure that are sometimes clever and sometimes a hindrance. Other than that, enjoy blowing enemies away in slow mo, pausing time to tea bag their bodies, and then rewinding to do it all over again!

+Outstanding optimization+Fun, if generic gameplay
-Weak story
-Unforgiving/unbalanced difficulty + BAD first impression
An otherwise generic shooter saved by the time manipulation mechanic and exemplary technical make-up. First impressions leave to be desired, as the average grunt can eat half a clip from the AR. On NORMAL. This is mitigated by the possibility of slowing down time or even stopping, but the enemies are ever so slightly spongy and since you are usually faced with multiple at a time, and a single one can kill you, this is a VERY unforgiving game...at least until later when you get far better weapons. Thankfully, checkpoints are spaced responsably and if all else fails, you can simply quicksave.
On the technical front, Timeshift might not look all that impressive, but there's SOME variety and as long as you have competent hardware, it performs LIKE A DREAM. I first played it a decade ago on a Core 2 Duo E4400+ 2GB RAM + NV 9600GT (under WinXP) and it ran maxed out FLAWLESSLY (1024x768 60FPS). Upon replaying it, it managed a locked 200FPS on my R5 2600X + 16GB RAM + RX 580 4GB (Win10). I had a few hitches when new areas were loading in, but that's an AMD thing far as I can tell. As long as your system is decent, TImeshift will offer a solid weekend's worth of fun. There is definitely some missed potential as the abilities are mostly used only for hazard traversal and to survive the odds, but it's a solid game overall.

It's a good 7th generation FPS. The shooting is ok, weapons are ok, and the time warp is good enough. The AI for the enemies was better that what it needed.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Imagine you have a lesser version of Half Life 2 and Crysis and you throw it all together in some slightly dated, blocky graphics of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and you are somewhere near this game. Not bad, but not great either.,

When this game came out in 2007 it had to run against multiple triple-A shooters and in comparison it really missed to make an impact and is kind of forgotten today (I'm writting this in 2020). Due to this fact some people labeled it as a "hidden gem" - but after playing through it on PS3, I would conclude that it's more of a "hidden mediocracy". On PS3 the graphics go from "very ugly" to "not too bad" depending on the level you are in. There is not much variety in the scenarios and the gameplay mechanics never change throughout the whole game, apart from a few turret parts and simple physics-/time-puzzles. The gimmick of TimeShift is a time manipulation mechanic, which once it is introduced a few minutes into the game, never changes and never get's upgraded. For the most part you will hide in cover, activate slow-motion or pause-time, run to a group of enemies, shot 2-3, run back into cover, wait until your powers regenerate and repeat. It's not too bad, as most of the weapons feel very good (excellent shotgun!), but it gets old quickly. The story does not help with bringing in variety, as it is as simple as "evil scientist steals timetravel-suite to establish a facist regime in the past - hero-scientist uses 2nd timetravel-suite to follow and kill him". It could still have been interesting, but it is told in such a negligibly and random way, that it seems even the developers didn't care too much for it either.
It's not a bad game and it's short enough to look over some of it's short comings. If you are looking for a much better shooter of that generation that uses a timetravel scenario, try out Singularity from 2010.

Not gonna lie, I was quite underwhelmed right from the start by the audio/visual package of Timeshift, as Doom 3 in 2004 looked, in many ways, more convincing - primarily, I thought Timeshift was...okay enough. It was generally fun going through, killing enemy troops that are overly enthusiastic to kill anyone who wishes for freedom, and the time-shifting gameplay did make things interesting. However, the linear level design was quite mediocre, many of the time-shift puzzles required intense accuracy, and the enemies were, for the first chunk of the game, bullet-sponges, requiring you to take an entire time-slowing session to simply take out two, sometimes out of a dozen. Mix in a surprising number of sudden mini-boss style situations that kill you quickly, requiring some parts to be played repeatedly, and you've got yourself a mixed bag of a title, if hardly bad. I can't deny it was generally fun – it just hasn't aged well, and was problematic even for its time. One thing I will give it: The resistance struggle is arguably the most dire I've seen in a game, on par with the Terminator 2 opening sequence, so that was engaging. But overall the game left me feeling unfulfilled, and again, really hasn't aged well.Updated 6.5 Years Ago

It can get slightly repetitive, but if you look beyond that, the game is quite amazing.
The time control feature is also really neat.

When it came out, this game felt revolutionary- dark and gritty modern visuals, fantastic gameplay with a beautifully implemented time manipulation mechanic, and the novelty of freezing time, crouching at a guys feet, shotgunning him in the face a few times, then unpausing time to send him flying into the sky never got old. However, the game now is old, and the visuals have dated really badly. The lack of a run button make the slow paced and uninteresting story drag even further, and the time mechanic, while still a lot of fun, is no longer unique enough to make it worth playing the game just to experience it. You could try Singularity instead, a less original and gameplay focused, but more modern and more interesting off-the-beaten-track FPS.

Solid gameplay with some satisfying weapons (bow). Shooting mechanics handle quite well. Limited use of time manipulation - rewind, pause and slowdown(?). Can carry 3 weapons.Level design, story and characters are abysmal and generic. Gameplay was fun though which is what matters.

Deserves much more than what it got. I sort of miss the original version of Timeshift based on the demo I downloaded from Fileplanet years ago. The feel of the game is great, I just wish it had a sprint option. So often I was just walking forward waiting. Cool weapons overall and a nice feel. The crossbow is OP and made the game too easy on any setting. Abilities are cool but not enough to MAKE the game. Story was complete trash. Great fun, expected much less! Motivated to play other games made by the same company/team. Updated

A great deal of work was done to bring the look and feel of TimeShift up to date, though an equal amount of time should have been spent on the design and presentation. With games like Halo 3 and The Orange Box out and Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 on the way, those design shortcomings feel ever magnified in the face of such giants. That doesn't mean there isn't any fun to be had here and if you have a spare weekend in the midst of the intense gaming schedule this fall demands of hardcore gamers, then Timeshift wouldn't be a bad way to spend it.Updated 17 Years Ago
