As some of you may know, what started as a joke ended up becoming some kind of challenge/marathon. I played as many itch.io games as I could which ended up being 34 games this month. You can check my blog here with the details of all the games along with a longplay/playthrough video of each game.

I've made some interesting discoveries, a few titles games which I'm the only one with a completions on HLTB and many more that only have less than 5-10 completions. Some where bad, some where average and a few of them I would definitely recommend. Most of them were free in either the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality or the Palestinian Aid Bundle. If you've purchased these bundles, you most likely have access to all of these. This is the full list of all the games I've beaten this month in order of completion (for a total of ~19 hours of gameplay) with the ones I would definitely recommend in *BOLD*:

1365
Un Pas Fragile
Koshka's Kofe
*SIA*
Hero-ing Addict
Arlo the Rabbit
*Zak*
Night in the Storm
Lonely Wolf Treat
Lonely Wolf Treat 2: Friendly Bunny Mochi
Lonely Wolf Treat 3: Clever Fox Moxie
Lonely Wolf Treat 4: Wantering Wold Trick
Lonely Wolf Treat 5: Dreaming Treat
Lonely Wolf Treat 6: Mochi in Frosting
*Escaped Chasm*
*Marie's Room*

Tomato Clinic
*Tiny Dangerous Dungeons*
Shrine to Anubis
Cats and Coins
The World Begins With You
There You Go
*Nonsense at Nightfall*
SELF (2021)
Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emeraled: A Whirlwind Heist
*Santa Loves Cake*
*Rex: Another Island*
*Luna*
*Fossil Echo*

Toree 3D
*Tinyrex*
*Mud Warriors*

The Adventures of Wolf and Hood - A Jigsaw Tale
Rising Dusk

Also, LOL...

I can't believe it's this time already. I don't know where the month went. I got in a few itch games, in part thanks to Tiamat. There'll be more to come. I also finished Dragon Quest V early in the month after taking too long and played Ikenfell through the month.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS): 29:01, May 28 – Sept. 03
Totally Normal Wizard’s Apprentice (Browser): 13m, Sept. 04
Night in the Storm (PC, icth.io): 8m, Sept. 07
Breakout Poetry (Browser, itch.io): 5m, Sept 08
Where Is Cat (PC, itch.io); 6m, Sept. 09
Ikenfell (Switch): 25:53, Sept. 04 – Sept 28

Ikenfell was the highlight for this month (and I still need to write up a post for it...).

Oh yikes the year is already in the last few months 😳. Two completions by me this month:

9/19 - The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (3DS) - 18h 40m
9/21 - Life is Strange (PS4) - 22h 25m

I enjoyed both, but Life is Strange was easily my favorite, I thought it was phenomenal and I was super engrossed in the story.

Wow, it's already October, time is just melting away this year, especially right now with college. I only completed one game this month.

-Master Levels for Doom II 9/12

The Master Levels were pretty meh, so I really can't recommend them. I will be wrapping up most of the games I'm playing this month so that should be cool. Plus I am hoping to check out a few spooky games this month for Halloween.

Spent most of this month and the last 4 months finishing Final Fantasy 14 and all 3 expansions (Heavenward, Storm blood, Shadowbringers) for a combined time of 1014 hours. I give it a perfect 10/10, truly an amazing MMO.

Also managed to squeeze in:

Fearmonium (7/10) A metroidvania with a Cuphead-like art style.

Trine 4 (7/10) Probably the best of the series but after four games I've definitely had enough Trine.

Tales of Symphonia:Dawn of the New World (7/10) The combat is an improvement but everything else is either the same or worse than Symphonia

The month of September finally brought some completions after 2 and a half months! And what completions they were.

18/09: Deltarune: Chapter 2 10/10
22/09: Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Verdant Wind 10/10
26/09: Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Cindered Shadows DLC 8.5/10

Best one: Fire Emblem: Three Houses by a long shot (the full Verdant Wind run). The sheer scale of this game is enough to put it miles above the other two, not to mentioned that I enjoyed the hell out of it and played an insane amount of it in the past two months.
Worst one: Fire Emblem: Three Houses' Cindered Shadows DLC. Not because it's bad, I actually liked it a lot, but it simply has much less content than the base game (understandably so) and was less entertaining than Deltarune: Chapter 2.

I'm super busy trying to get an engineering degree right now but I still managed to find some time for gaming:

1365 - Sep 7
Bloons TD 6 - Sep 8
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D - Sep 10
Splitgate - Sep 26
Crawl - Sep 28

The big one here is obviously Xenoblade. It really says something about the game when I played the objectively worst version of the game and still loved it. Definitely one of the best JRPGs I've played. [Note: I've been playing Xenoblade off and on for almost a year now. I didn't play the entire game this month.]

For Bloons and Splitgate, there isn't a defined end so I just counted one complete match for "Main Story" in Bloons and getting to Level 10 for Splitgate.

It has been a busy month with games. Got to beat:
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World: 9/10 - What a charm this game was and I loved the new content added for the 3DS, just wish I had the HD version for the Wii u to play instead because the videos on youtube were so much better quality. Still an amazing game.
Kuru Kuru Kururin: 8/10 - What a gem of a maze-like puzzle game. I love the time trials and no hit challenges that were available for those looking for a challenge.
Dojoran: 8/10 - What a simple black and white challenging platformer. Truly inspired by Kaizo Mario and I had a blast seeing what this game would add next. Died a ton but so glad I completed it. Surprised I went for the 100% mechanic but I started with it and saw it through. Sunk cost fallacy in full effect.
Monument Valley 2: 6/10 - Simple mobile game that I was kind of indifferent about. I like the concept but the difficulty was never something too crazy and some levels felt like throwaways. It lost a lot of appeal from the first game but I am glad I saw it through. It has been just sitting on my phone for so long.
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2: 8/10 - So I technically only beat the first loop but I am still enjoying the heck out of this game and what it has to offer. It is deep and I am really getting the hang of the level design and what each character has to offer. This game is brutal in difficulty and I am trying to stick to Veteran all the way through.

Even beating Xenoblade over a year seems surprising considering the sheer amount of college with college in the background and clearly making time for other games. It has been in my backlog for so long but just unsure when I will even begin to dedicate the time to that game.

I’m somewhat surprised I managed to finish it as well. I probably played two thirds of the game over Christmas break and during the summer after work. I definitely recommend at least starting it at some point! Once you get going it’s a great game to slowly pick away at. I don’t know which version you own, but out of the three the 3DS version is definitely the worst, play it on Wii or Switch if you can.

AM2R: Return of Samus
Super Metroid
Metroid: Samus Returns
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion

I'm halfway through Metroid Prime now. Yeah, I think I'm excited about that game next month.

I actually beat three games this month! Which is my best this year I think besides January. Although one was technically a replay:

Quake (PC): 09/01, 9/10
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (REPLAY/PS5): 09/10, 9/10
Tigger's Honey Hunt (N64): 09/15, 7/10

This was my first time playing Quake this month and I highly enjoyed it and appreciated it more and more as I played it. No wonder this game was revolutionary for the entire gaming landscape. I loved the environmental perils you had to face in this one although was disappointed by the lack of gun types. I then replayed Modern Warfare Remastered, which is always fun and I did want to replay it to do a more cohesive review on my Backlog Blog. Finally, I played Tigger's Honey Hunt on an actual Nintendo 64 and liked it, but the experience is soured by the end of the game where in fact, the entire game was pointless so that was frustrating but it's a Winnie The Pooh game, you can't get mad at it.

Next Month I'm probably going to try and continue Doom 3: VR Edition on PSVR and keep no playing Samurai Warriors 4 on my modded Vita, which so far is a much better port than Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends. Oh, and I'll probably check out Back 4 Blood on Xbox Game Pass since I do want to go through that since I did enjoy the beta, it's just that I'm probably going to go get it on sale later on PC.

601. 09/26: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC, 2001) - review

I did a lot of completions for this month as well. 15 games this month, which I believe is about half of the year so far.

Sep 1 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Master Trials DLC - 7/10
Sep 2 - Bird Alone - 7/10
Sep 4 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The Champions' Ballad DLC - 7/10
Sep 7 - Orwell - 8/10
Sep 7 - Squaredance - 7/10
Sep 9 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 9/10
Sep 11 - WWE 2K Battlegrounds - 1/10
Sep 11 - Star Fox 2 - 7/10
Sep 14 - Zip Zap - 7/10
Sep 15 - Lost Lands: Dark Overlord - 7/10
Sep 29 - Oracle of Seasons - 5/10
Sep 29 - Oracle of Ages - 5/10
Sep 29 - WarioWare: Get it Together - 8/10
Sep 30 - Fighting EX Layer Another Dash - 4/10
Sep 30 - PAC-MAN 99 - 6/10

Seeing this makes me realize how many 7/10s I give.

Best was Breath of the Wild, which I will also add-in that I 100%'d ("Ya ha ha" will always be in my nightmares).

Worst was WWE 2K Battlegrounds at a whopping 1/10. I don't give those very often, but it truly belongs on the bottom rung.

I finished 3 games this month:

Nier: Automata [PS4] 37h 56m (10/10) - September 19
ABZÛ [PS4] 1h 53m (8/10) - September 19
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky [PC] 48h 51m (10/10) - September 25

It's impossible for me to pick a favourite this month. I loved both Trails in the Sky & Nier: Automata equally. They have almost nothing in common apart from the fact they tell a story you need weeks to recover from. September was an excellent gaming month for me.

😆 Yeah, but they all add up to 19 hours of game time (30-40 minutes each in average). So while 34 games is a lot, it's as if I had complete one or two longer games only.

I had one of my most productive months so far, with 5 completions. In order:
- Mass Effect on Xbox 360
- Journey on PS3
- Thomas Was Alone on PS3
- Black Rock Shooter on PSP
- Shadow of Destiny on PSP

Shadow of Destiny is a great concept but as a game it’s trash IMO - the gameplay is pretty boring but it’s made up for by the hilariously bad dialogue and voice acting.

BRS is an RPG that is fairly repetitive but did the job. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone though.

Thomas Was Alone is a fantastic puzzle game with brilliant narration. I enjoyed every second of it.

Journey is a classic and perfect in what it is aiming to do.

Mass Effect is good but underwhelming due to lacklustre gameplay and a myriad of problems in its execution. And the Mako sucks!

September was a fruitful month for me.

09/08 Mass Effect 3 (PS4) • 45:53, 5/5
09/08 Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PS4) • 122:28, 5/5
09/15 Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - The Siege of Paris (PS5) • 14:34, 3/5
09/21 Zombies Ate My Neighbors (NS) • 9:08, 2½/5

The Mass Effect games were definitely great to play through again this year, and ME3 was easily the best game that I played this month. The Siege of Paris was just more rock stacking and damn troll magic. And then there was Zombies Ate My Neighbors..... yeah. This port might have been a better time if it was given some quality of life improvements. But as it stands, it's just a brutal slog with neverending waves of enemies. Your health ends very quickly, though.

In September I continued playing games with a "dark" theme. Unfortunately, I had so little time this month that I finished only a couple of small games:

23-Sep-2021 - Little Inferno (PC) - 4H35M
27-Sep-2021 - Little Nightmares (PC) - 5H15M

I am also about halfway through Dishonoured, which I will finish next month for sure.

Of the two I completed, Little Nightmares is far the better game. I thought Little inferno was rather poor - and while I enjoyed the idea and the execution - there was not enough in it to make it interesting.

Next month I expect to have lots of time after a couple of big projects at my daytime job came to an end. Therefore I'm planning to attack some bigger games in my Steam Library under the Theme of "Dark Fantasy": The Witcher 2, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Legacy of Kain: Defiance and more.

My Game Size Guide:
Tiny (0-2 hours), Small (2-6 hours), Medium (6-14 hours), Large (14-30 hours), Huge (30-62), Epic (62+)

Sep 08 - TimeSplitters 2 - PlayStation 2
Sep 09 - Garshasp: Temple of the Dragon - PC
Sep 12 - Silent Hill: Origins - PlayStation 2
Sep 14 - Soma - PC
Sep 14 - Endless Space - PC
Sep 15 - Sid Meier's Civilization V - PC
Sep 18 - Wheels of Aurelia - PC
Sep 26 - Psychonauts 2 - Xbox One
Sep 27 - Spore - PC

An alright month for me, could've fit in a couple more games, but I'm wasting time on Fortnite again. And also played a whole bunch of Valheim again. Solo Valheim kinda sucks if you're actually trying to get to the late game stuff, might try console commands or just only play with my cousin. As for the games I finished the best was definitely Psychonauts 2. It's just a great game. Garshasp: Temple of the Dragon was the low point this month, thankfully it was not that long.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - 21h / 100% - REPLAY
Half-Life 2 - 8h / 100% - REPLAY
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - 2h - REPLAY
Simulacra - 7h45m / 100% (4 playthroughs) - BEST
True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 1 - 9h35m / 100% (2 playthroughs)

Most of September I spent with tearing demon anus in the most christian ways imaginable while staying alive as long as I could on DOOM's hardest mode appropriately titled Ultra Nightmare. I now can do the first 6 levels without even looking, but still struggle past that point. Rest assured, give up I will not! Couldn't really focus on anything new that required more complex player input so the only 2 fresh completions were a spoopy hidden-object-type game and a mobile game, quite literally. The True Fear series is yet incomplete and the release of the last part remains unknown to this day, but what I've seen of the story so far wasn't bad. Simulacra wins this month for being innovative with the horror genre, although the poor voice acting and the setting being on a more supernatural side of things kind of ruins it. I've done a quick re-run of Half-Life 2 to grab the last achievements on Steam and my opinion on it hasn't changed much, HL1 is still the better game. The 2 hour-replays of IO's forgotten gangster-duo across the alleys of neon-engulfed Shanghai has become a tradition at this point, even if it's not the most competent TPS ever made. GTA: LCS however, is still an awesome first entry on a handheld and one of my favorites in the series, revisiting old-school Liberty City never felt better.

God of War (2018) (PlayStation 4) - September 06, 2021 - Give Me a Challenge difficulty. 100% Completed. All Favours, Labours, Treasure Maps and Artefacts completed. All Skills bought. Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos fully upgraded. Did all the Muspelheim Trials, including the Impossible ones and the Summit. Unlocked every Chest and did all the Realm Tear Encounters in Niflheim. Got the "True ending" by going home after beating the game.

The Last of Us Remastered (PlayStation 4) - September 11, 2021 - 6h 56m 58s - Time is from the "Statistics" in the game, so it may not be entirely accurate. - New Game +. Easy difficulty. Quick playthrough to fully upgrade all weapons. All Artifacts, Firefly pendants, Training Manuals, Comics and Tools collected. All Conversations triggered and all locked doors opened. Fully upgraded Joel's skills. Fully upgraded all weapons. - REPLAY

Metroid Fusion (Game Boy Advance) - September 27, 2021 - 4h 26m - The time is taken from the "End Screen" after beating the game, so it may not be entirely accurate. - 51% item completion rate. Got the Worst ending by playing the game for more than 4 hours with less than 100% of items acquired. 11/20 Energy Tanks. 33/48 Missile Tanks. 7/32 Power Bomb Tanks.

Amazing games this month.
God of War (2018) is an absolute masterpiece and I recommend it to everyone who likes action games. Can't wait for Ragnarok next year!
Did a quick replay of The Last of Us Remastered to fully upgrade all weapons, so I could get a trophy for that.
And finished Metroid Fusion in preparation for Metroid Dread, which was really great. The pacing of Fusion compared to Super Metroid is much faster and it was definitely a harder game as well. The late game bosses surprised me by how hard they were. Definitely a really great 2D Metroid game.
Still want to finish Zero Mission before Dread comes out, so will definitely do that this month.

Happy gaming for October!
