Couldn't finish the game. The story didn't pull me in, Aveline was a meh character. I liked of New Orleans as the location, and I liked the persona feature too. I thought it was a neat idea. But lack of story, missing features like no Fast travel or made the game drag

VERDICT:
Assassin's Creed Liberation certainly is a sour game to digest but isn't the worst game I've played. It's the worst Assassin's Creed game I've played to date, purely because Ubisoft tried to make a pretty penny instead of making a for filled game.

I can also see why it's a divided game due to the story being slightly confusing, the movement being even more clunky than the previous titles, and collectables can only be seen when you're up close which is extremely inconvenient.

But alas there are some positives to this game and the one that stands out the most has to be the female protagonist you play, Instead of one character, you get three personas: the Lady, the Slave and of course the Assassin. Each persona has their specific strengths and weaknesses. And the last thing that they never seem to disappoint on is the combat, fighting your enemies with your classic hidden blades or a sugar cane machete, It's very creative.

The overall gameplay is below par and I strongly recommend getting this on a discount.... This could easily pass as a DLC for Assassin's Creed III

Absolute trash can of a game. The first time I ever experienced a bug in an AC game, I was caught off-gaurd by it. This game taught me how to differentiate between good and bad voice acting. Before this game, I couldn't really distinguish good and bad acting, but this game showed me what bad voice acting sounded like. Performances were so emotionless, I couldn't help but giggle. The settings were garbage. Why tf am I navigating a swamp in a canoe? The canoe was slow and on top of that, it was a swamp. The game gets mildly decent towards the end when it gets into it's classic AC Eden artifacts mumbo jumbo, but by that point, I'm begging for the credits to roll.

Genuinely terrible game, who wrote this?!

The plot is dense, doesn't exist, makes no sense, terribly presented and paced

Do not care for any characters

Environments are ugly, samey, not nice to look at it traverse

Speaking of, traversal is terrible. It already had terrible controls, but now there's a swamp to swim through or take forever going around places in a canoe. No fast travel?!

The music is also lackluster. Doesn't suit, doesn't add anything, the whole game was clearly a D team effort. If I'd bought this on the Vita, the Vita would have been in the bin

Just don't play the game. There is nothing good here

I really enjoyed the Three Personas mechanic of the game and being able to do certain things in certain personas but not in others. I sorta wish they'd brought it back in subsequent games. Overall, despite some jankiness, the game was good. I liked the story, and the entire plotline was a fun one to follow. The different game areas were also a nice touch. Definitely an enjoyable playthrough, but I don't know that I would be interested in coming back to it at another time to finish the last 5% synch, nor would I want to replay it.

better than asc 3 in terms of gameplay. it’s less glitchy and easier to parkour and combat, though it still has its flaws

love the main character, she’s so cool, she does have a lack of character development throughout the game tho. but its okay bc it was short.

first female assassin slay

the storyline is lowkey boring tho like i’m literally just playing it rn to say i have finished it.

it picks up a bit from mexico and is a little bit better now

the changing disguises mechanic is cool! i like it i just wish it was a little bit more useful as a free choice thing, not when the game tells me to change

i wish there was fast travel between minor locations or to the main mission objective bc oml its so tedious to go between mission locations

ngl the fake ending got me lmao i was pissed that she “joined the templars” after all of my hard work lol.

but i mean the ending was okay! nothing special, they just needed a way to end the game. the plottwist was cool tho, even tho i figured it out about 10 mins before they told me.

not worth staying to complete side missions like in other asc games i just blasted through the main story

For the super fans, the unique systems and locations are probably enough to be interesting, but for everyone else it's probably hard to get past the frustratingly old and unreliable parkour system. I think price will dictate whether this one's worth it, so keep that in mind when you're browsing the bargain buckets.

Aveline is the only redeemable quality about this game.

She's actually a somewhat decent character, but my gosh the story is SO boring. I couldn't get emotionally invested, and I tried really hard to. Oh, and the mechanics are TERRIBLE. Poor graphics I can forgive because of the release date, but just objectively bad gameplay I can't forgive. The world is even worse than AC 3, as are the side characters/content. Stopped caring before I finished the game so I guess the ending may redeem it, but from what I've heard the ending is underwhelming as well.

Overall, a 3/10, wouldn't recommend.

Even though this game is short, don't waste your time. Play another AC game.

If I were in the demographic represented by the protagonist, I imagine I would feel insulted by this game. Initially I would have described it as feeling like DLC made by a skeleton team, but that would be giving it too much credit. As the never-ending credits clearly show, this was a game made by thousands upon thousands of people. And sure, there are presentational elements that are the quality you'd expect from a AAA game, like the visuals. And fine, it was originally a Vita game, so they probably had to cut some corners to keep it functional on a portable device.

Regardless, this is just a bad game. There is a plot, but it's hard to latch onto it, because Aveline's goals are never entirely very clear or concrete. She wants to help slaves, but her reasons for picking up THIS particular quest and following it through aren't apparent. The rest of the cast is comprised of stock characters that are not driven by logic, emotion, or ideology. No, their principles and loyalties are juggled from scene to scene like the filler villains of a hackneyed comic book series. If a character does have some semblance of nuance, you can practically be sure that a late-game twist will reduce them to a mustache-twirling villain.

After so many installments that all play the same way, there's not much to say about the mechanics conceptually. The things that worked in other games still work, and the things that didn't work in other games still don't work. However, you'd think that after cloning the same formula for so many AC games, they wouldn't actually *regress,* which is exactly what happens here. The freerunning and climbing are imprecise and buggy, clipping you through ledges and the ground. Ranged weapons are totally inconsistent, sometimes not firing at all (or firing but somehow not hitting their target despite auto-targeting). The bayou is irritating to travel across, for many reasons: arbitrary hills and bushes block you in the most inconvenient locations, canoes have the turn radius of a semi-truck and have a tendency to get fenced in by vines, and swimming is so slow that it is physically painful.

Maybe the devs were dealt a bad hand and just tried to make the most of it, but this is pretty embarrassing output.

Never played the original release, but I can't imagine it looked any better on the Vita's smaller screen. Some of the most awkward, rushed and stiff animation I've seen from a big game franchise.
Same could be said about the story that delivers barely any context and it feels like you're just teleporting from location to location to get to your target.

I've played the remastered version on PC.

This might be one of the worst Assassin's Creed games to exist.

There is basically no story setup. For a while I had no clue why I was doing what I was doing aside from some business thing that the protagonist's parents own.

Most missions feel disconnected from one another. So far, there doesn't even seem to be a real "main thread" to follow. It's just basic, barebones mission after basic, barebones mission.

The characters seem pretty forgettable. Aside from the protagonist, Aveline, the only ones I can think of are her step(?)-parents but I can't remember their names.

The mechanics, thankfully, are mostly the same as in the other Assassin's Creed games, but freerunning and climbing doesn't feel as fluid and responsive as in AC3.

They added this persona system, which allows the protagonist to slip into one of three roles ("Lady", "Assassin" and "Slave"). Each role has different abilities. The Lady, for example, cannot climb things but she will not gain notoriety as fast as the other ones and she can charm or bribe guards to make them move out of the way.
The Assassin is pretty much the same as in the other games.
The Slave lets you blend in in some situations. It doesn't seem that different from the Assassin, to be honest.

The collectibles are terrible, mostly because there's basically no tracking (for completionists) and the map doesn't even uncover their locations after syncing viewpoints. Many only show up once you get close to them. This would be fine if it didn't have quite so many collectibles.

There is also no fast travel between sync points, which is annoying since the levels aren't particularly fun to traverse.

Speaking of which, the level design is also mixed. New Orleans is... fine. It's not that interesting but it's fine. The bayou, on the other hand, is dreadful. It doesn't have anything interesting to show for itself and it's a pain to navigate.
Chichen Itza is not interesting but it's pretty small, at least.

The tech of this game is a mixed bag, too. It works and it's mostly stable (I experienced a few crashes, though), and the UI definitely looks like something you'd find on a handheld device. The sync animations (with the camera moving outward and around the character) are somehow running at 30 ticks, making them look super stuttery.

It's just not a good game at all. That seems to be a running theme for Assassin's Creed spinoffs.

Like Bloodlines before it, Liberation is a successful Diet version of its bigger brother, in this case AC3. Meaning it inherits all the strengths and weaknesses of that game. So while the game is impressive on a technical level, the combat and stealth are boring and the new persona system makes the gameplay drag more than it enhances. The story also feels rushes and inconsistent despite a Godly premise. And the Vita Exclusive Features feel like gimmicks

Meh. Not a bad companion piece to Assassin's Creed III, but just like that game, it comes with many unpolished/unfinished aspects. I like how short it was; this is honestly the perfect length for an Assassin's Creed game. Perhaps it could have been a little bit longer if the side content was good, but much of the side content/collectibles in Liberation are very lazy. No fast travel within each area was a little annoying as well, especially since traversal in the Bayou can be finicky. Story wasn't bad, but felt very rushed towards the end, and there were several beats throughout that were lazily assembled.

Marginally better than Assassin's Creed 3, but that's not saying much. Completely unbelievable story, with mostly unlikeable characters. The main quest is quite a bit shorter, and thankfully doesn't make you go out of your way. Battles were rather obnoxious, I never really could figure out what I was supposed to do. Most of the time, the game comes down to replaying a segment a few times til you get lucky. Often just beelining the target and not bothering with stealth was sufficient.

A very short game, especially considering there isn't much side-content either.

I liked the main character a lot more than Connor, which is why I'm rating this a bit higher, but many of the issues still remain. The combat is clunky, and enemies take forever to kill in comparison to the Ezio trilogy, which on its own isn't a bad thing, as the one-hit kill system was flawed as well. But this new system is just memorizing how to counter enemy type X and then wail on them with your weapon for a while.

The whip swing is a fun addition, were it not that it's placed on the same button combination that also makes you do an "unsafe jump" so more than once I dove into the water below instead of doing the whip swing I wanted to perform.

The game looks pretty decent, considering it was made for the PSP if I'm not mistaken, but you can still see artifacts of this, especially in the facial animations, they basically open their mouth like hand-puppets with hardly any shaping to the lips. But other than that I actually prefer this to ACIII.

The story has a weak end, as is almost a tradition in AC games by this point. It feels like they spend too much of their development time building a setting and premise and therefore run out of time to make a proper ending.

It's not a bad game overall, just short and inconsequential.

This was a lot more fun than I was expecting it to be, given that it's a spinoff originally made for a handheld (I played the Remastered version on PS4)!

The story has some hiccups, but it feels like this could have been a main game with a little more focus and a little more time. I really loved being Aveline, her story and the game mechanics that come with her are so interesting. I was missing the Modern Day plot from the main games a little, but I won't hold that against it since this was a spinoff. I really liked how they handled the Abstergo framework!
When it comes to the characters, they were all so likeable. Gerald is best boy, such a cutie, but I also liked Elise (her accent tho) and Roussillon. Aveline herself is a big cutie as well. The ultimate antagonist could have done with a bit more screentime, but that was probably mostly due to the short runtime of the game.

In all, I would recommend this to AC fans as well as people who've never played an AC game before - it's a great starting point, because the plot isn't bogged down by any heavy lore, but it still has all the same game mechanics, fun characters and an intriguing story with a little bit of Animus shenanigans sprinkled in. Loved it!

8.5/10 – Assassin’s Creed Liberation provides an interesting story that, while presented strangely at some parts, is overall very enjoyable. It also uses the same controls and engine as AC3, but lacks many of the bugs and problems I had with AC3. Overall a very fun and short game.

Pros:
+Story – (Spoilers because what I liked about it was towards the end.) While the story starts out slow and can be a bit complicated, by the end I really enjoyed it. Many twists and turns near the end that really engaged me. It also has a fake out ending where you join the Templars and the credits roll. This turned out to be a ploy to kill the leader of the Templars, but I would have loved if it did end with Aveline joining them, would have been impact. The actual ending is nice though. However, it’s connections to the modern story with Eve being the leader of the human rebellion seemed random and tacted on.

+Controls – I had a lot of problems with the Controls being unresponsive when I played AC3 and was expecting the same in this game since it used the same engine. I was pleasantly surprised, however, when they worked a lot better! Makes me think my problems with AC3 may have been more with the platform or remastered version rather than the game itself.

+The World – Taking playing mainly in Louisiana, the game features a town familiar to those who played AC3, but the addition of the Bayou makes it very unique. Swamps are a place you don’t see very often as the main focus of games and it was a very nice change of place. Plus it reminded me of Red Dead 2, which is always nice.

+The Whip – It functions nearly identical to the Rope Dart in AC3, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. More AC games need whips.

Cons:
-Pacing – As the game is a smaller scope, being made originally for the Vita, the story is more condensed. This can make things feel like they are happening very quickly and some attention was added to filler missions when the ending could have been fleshed out more.
