Finallly finished the game in every aspect, story, playthrough and trophy hunting(!)

And for you all, a review that conclude this game once and for all:
Just some pratical info for this review, of course well written by some on Wikipedia, makes me just to quote and copy this saying:

Hogwarts Legacy is a 2023 action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label. It is part of the Wizarding World franchise, taking place a century prior to the Harry Potter novels. The player controls a student enrolled in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who learns to wield an array of magical abilities and objects. With the assistance of fellow students and professors, the protagonist embarks on a journey to unearth an ancient secret concealed within the wizarding world.

When it comes to your main character, you have many options to try to recreate the character according to your own wishes.
Despite this, I would say that the creators of the game have limited it a bit, so that there is not so much focus on character creation.
Which I think is a bit good, since we have so many fancy RPG games out there that focus on appearance and possibilities.
What I really like is the main story in the game. It captures you into the game as a whole and gives the adventure and spark that there could possibly be a Hogwarts school near you. It allows you to choose to present dialogue and the art of living in the Harry Potter world to your own liking.

Not only that, but the game's mechanics make it challenging and at the same time flexible in how you can treat enemies, creatures and all creatures in the game. Almost everything can be created, changed, challenged.
Other things in the game are all the different different activities that you can participate in, like flying on a broomstick, playing Summoners Court, diving into treasure hunting, collecting animals/creature and action-packed trials for enemies and foes.

This paired with a spectacular soundtrack, music and environment makes the game something special, homely and dear.
It makes it enjoyable for a player like me to do quests, explore and play the game in my own way. No rush, but still filled with excitement.
The landscape, the meadows, the streams, the valleys - all of this constitutes a rich form of nature and creatures - everything from small details to reptiles, to giant dragons and buildings. Graphically, the game does it magnificently - even with a limitation on the PS5 graphics.

Despite much praise for the game's overall feel and form factor, there are still plenty of bugs that occur or things that just don't make sense when you're questing or interacting with NPCs.
The dialogue and voice acting are good in that sense, but some dialogue and events could be simplified. Some are comical, other situations a bit strange.

Today the game is a whole, so you don't have to download extra DLC packs, and you don't have to worry about RGP elements in the MMO world where you buy advantages. The game is single-player, and that's it. If it ever comes out in MMO style, it's hard to say whether it will meet a good standard.

Personally, I have had a fabulously good gamethrough and have thoroughly enjoyed myself along the way. All the choices, dialogue, combat and questing have made me more interested in the Harry Potter world. So that it was a pleasure to pick up the game again (and including the game through the Halloween update) something that I was looking forward to.
And with this, I also got my girlfriend hooked on the game - both in the world we played in and how she perceived the game herself.

The game has received many awards and achievements for its masterpiece. The only thing that was missing from my side was that the game could be replayed. Maybe there will be a feature, maybe not.
Maybe when there is a new DLC that gives a little more fullness to the game, I might come back.

This game annoys me, because I feel like it could be incredibly good but some things didn't seem to have much effort put into them.

The world itself is insanely beautiful, I can tell that the developers put so much love into the game and the worldbuilding itself is great. Visually the game is probably a 10/10, the amount of small details that were programmed into the game is crazy to me and that's what makes the first 10 or so hours of this game incredibly enjoyable. The issues arise when you get to the questing and the story. I found the dialogue to be quite meh, and the questing to be incredibly boring. This felt like MMO type questing, except without all of the good parts of an MMO, it felt like I was playing BDO all over again. I didn't enjoy the story, I found it to be extremely boring and that led to me speedrunning the later half of the game because I was so incredibly bored. The combat is simply put okay, I do actually like the difficulty on hard, but the combat lacks variety and you're killing many of the same enemies (like having to kill the same boss twice, that's just unforgivable.)

Some parts of the game are incredibly good, and if you're excited to play the game you're going to LOVE the first many hours of the game as you explore everything. But I just found the questing to be so mind-numbingly boring I couldn't stand it anymore.

I was hoping to like this as I am a Harry Potter fan, but I didn't find any enjoyment in the story and just felt bored while playing. Most voice acting is pretty mediocre and overall I just found the game to be repetitive. The atmosphere us beautiful, though. Just not for me sadly.

Standard but enjoyable AAA open world fare, with a very well-themed layer of Harry Potter on top (sadly including the questionable politics, despite some obvious tokenism). Combat and exploration are an absolute blast, I do wish learning new spells & potions was a bit more involved though and some of the dialogue is quite janky at times.

This game is a fantastic capture of what made the Harry Potter books and movies so memorable and magical. The story isn't anything spectacular but the way it's conveyed and worked through is very good. There are so many memorable characters with great storylines and moments. The magic and world of the game really shine out when you start to explore. The magical beasts you can care for are such a great addition to the game, giving you even more to do. I really wasn't a huge fan of the basic spell gameplay. Having to swap selections and then another mode of input to cast just seems clunky and led to selecting the wrong spells in some instances. It's a minor complaint against the greater whole of a fantastic game.

I wasn’t sure at first, having never read any Harry Potter book or seen any movie. But I don’t regret it, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. The graphics, animation, art, level design, and environmental design are incredibly polished, with an insane attention to detail. The story is also very well-written, including the side quests, which are long and engaging, much like in The Witcher 3. The gameplay is action-oriented, with a great variety of spells that are satisfying and rewarding to combine. A masterpiece that’s restored my faith in video gaming.

This game feels like AC Origins in the Harry Potter world. The random gear system is very similar to Ubisoft's AC series, but unfortunately the combat in this game quickly becomes monotonous. The story telling is also a bit long-winded like AC Valhalla. I suspect this game was partly made by Ubisoft for Avalanche.

- map and direction to get to quest marker are the worst ive ever seen. at one point it actually took me in a full circle without getting me to the marker. almost every time i get half way to a marker (inside hogwarts) the line directing you to the marker will tell you to turn around.
- trying to warp around using the map is frustrating to say the least
- the main characters voice sounds like its coming through a broken microphone. buzz sounds kind of like a voice changer
- all dialogue has consisted of is "oh youre new here. hi." if its a teacher "ah your special boy 5th year. do x assignment."
*the dialogue is SO BAD
- dude has been out after dark, in the restricted section and stolen from the potions teacher AND NO REPERCUSSIONS OF ANY KIND
- every time you put on new gear your vanity changes back to regular
- new quest? let me track that for you even if you dont want to do it right now
- three broomsticks bar person is CLEARLY a 30ish y/o woman (visually) but has a voice that would rival thor
- doors that should auto open take 5+ seconds due to loading (i presume this is a switch problem)
- very long load times (again i assume this is switch related)
- holding Y or A to talk, open doors, and confirm most things....why is this not just press Y or more preferable A....pressing Y does nothing as is
- for the love of all things good: PLEASE STOP MAKING GAMERS HOLD FORWARD WHILE AN NPC TALKS. this is in no way engaging or enjoyable.
- never liked games that use reticles for menu things
- immediately theres dozens of areas you cant go to/treasures you cant open. feels like they tried to shove way to much into this
- forced to do a side quest/assignments to continue the main story.....
- main quests feel like side quests: "get nearly headless nick rotten mean" + "shoot pumpkins" (crap version of hide and seek) since you can cast a spell and see which one theyre hiding in
- after 5hrs i feel like im still playing the intro
- multiple people being admitted as 5th years with no explanation (ancient magic = auto 5th year)
- targeting is ASS
- professor fig: "DONT TELL ANYONE ANYTHING"...next few hrs the main character tells everyone (none of which hes EVER met before) everything....

i loved harry potter (past tense cause ive had nothing to do with this world since the books and movies). this feels like a desperate cash grab by people who know nothing about games. the music is just what youve heard 100 times in the movies. characters last names are used for hype but mean nothing otherwise as apparently this is roughly 150-300 years after harry potter.

I have absolutely LOVED every second of this game - and that's coming from someone who normally does not enjoy open world games.

Hogwarts Legacy is a delightful mix of The Witcher's and GTA's game design, set in the world of the Harry Potter series.

Every minute of the game just screams passion, and it's clear that it was made by people who love both Harry Potter and video games in general.

As evidence of the former - there's such an enormous amount of care put into the worldbuilding to make it as consistent with the books and the movies as possible while still telling an interesting story in the confines of the established lore.

As evidence of the latter - the game is incredibly polished, with nearly every element of it being executed flawlessly. The open world exploration and traversal, the combat, the puzzles, the platforming, the cutscenes, even the collectibles - the part of open world games I usually hate - didn't bother me here at all.

Aside from completionist nitpicks - like the lack of ability to track the Finishing Touches achievement or not displaying the location of butterflies on the world map - the only real complaints I could have with the game is how few of your dialogue choices seem to actually matter, because in that regard, the game is much closer to GTA than it is to The Witcher.

But really, all of the complaints to be had absolutely pale in comparison to the good parts of this game.

There's so much to do, so much to see, beasts to save, spells to learn, potions to brew, bandits to kill, mysteries to solve.

I must say, I have been pleasantly surprised. More games like this, please!

Discussing this with a friend, we both agreed that Hogwarts Legacy is probably the perfect example of a game where the developers gave 110% but didn't think everything through completely. The characters act irrationally and inconsistently. You can cast Avada Kedavra (and the other Unforgivable Curses) on random NPCs and they'll brush it off with hardly anyone caring. Completing side activities gives you nothing except for cosmetics or additional slots for cosmetics. The plot revolves around finding Pensieve memories scattered around the world to piece together a tragic secret, but you could learn everything from a portrait you encounter very early on--he just chooses not to tell you. There isn't a particularly convincing reason for why he chooses not to tell you, so the whole story feels unnecessary and wasteful.

That being said, if you can overlook the amateurish narrative design, the environment is an absolute delight and the gameplay gives you a fair amount of unique challenges before it starts to feel repetitive.

This game was OK, I did not really know what to expect but overall i think it was an OK experience. The best part of the game is exploring the castle and the world, but that wears off with a lack of decent story lines and side quest which to me were not that entertaining except Sebastian his story quest where good. The combat in the game was fun, it provides a nice combination of spells at your disposal. If your a fan of the wizarding world you will most likely enjoy this for the setting but if you are looking for a great story this is going to be meh. overall this will bring you some fun for at least 20-30 hours.

Ok, first off, I'm writing this still in shock with everything that happened. Let's begin. It's a great game, amazing story, spectacular characters, the environment is perfect as you feel you're in Hogwarts. I heard some people say that they wanted something related to Harry Potter and I disagree with that, they've fit perfectly inside the Hogwarts universe as YOU are playing the game being a regular student (not so regular). The gameplay is awesome, the combat is good because of fighting with wands, having options to choose between spells, learning the unforgivable curses (will talk about that later), everything hooks perfectly. About the driving sistem, I felt lack in it as nowadays we have a bunch of styles to choose when talking riding horses or hypogrifs, the game choose a bad way of driving with both analogs, they could've gone to a better path.

Story review:
The story attaches you in a way that you want to know what's gonna happen next, not the best way because there are some times you feel bored or tired of doing the same stuff over and over again, an example of this is exploring the ruins, everytime you're fighting either spiders or dwarfs, and it feels that the ruins are the same even though the game tells you it's not. Isidora's story is very, VERY well played through out the game and the connection at the end is the chef's kiss. The Guardians missions got so boring with doing the tests and the only great thing they done while in it was the end of it where you found the memories that explained what was going on.
There are some thing to consider in the story as highlights:
. Niamh's memory about the Death Hallows
. Lodgok's death (it could have been better, like a Dobby one)
. The secret of Lodgok being Ranrok's brother kept until the end
. Sebastian's conection with dark magic and teaching them
. The artefacts were used to do the Magic Wand used at the end to compact the power
. Isidora's death was not expectable from Sar
. Victor Rookwood saying the same words that were pronnounced when Anne got cursed (and discovering later that it really was him)
. Ranrok using Miriam's (Fig's wife) wand against Fig himself
. Our character saying "Thank you Miriam, for everything" at the end

OOOH, and I almost forgot to talk about the Room of Requirements. It basically is a place where you put a lot of things together and lose control of them all lol. If I had to take one thing out of the game it would be this room, it's almost unnecessary. I fell like if they shoretened the ammount of things you can do inside there and placed it in other aspects of the game, I would've been better. You have options to take care of creatures, make potions, do your herbology stuff, decorate the ENTIRE room, and when I say ENTIRE I really mean it you can change the walls and the roof. It's good to have something like this, but I don't want to simulate The Sims in a Harry Potter game, we should have Quidditch instead.

That's it, the amazing side of the game, now let's consider the not so amazing side of the game.

Let's begin with the lack of connection with the characters, I felt this so much in Fig, I tought he was going to be what Dumbledore was to Harry, or even Hagrid, but I felt like his death didn't mean that much, ok I cried about it, but it could have been better.
Another thing the game lacks is the abscence of emotion, if you read the books or watch the movies you see that this entire universe is made to connect us with the feelings and to show what emotions are, like Snapes arc of redemption or Dumbledore sacrificing himself for the greater good, things like that that weren't exactly in the game.
Another thing I felt bad for was discovering, not learning, all the spells that were gonna be used further in the game, I mean on one hand it's great to know but I wanted to discover it more naturally, not opening the menu in the first our of the gaming and get to know that Avada Kedavra and Crucius can be learned.
And to end the criticism, the last part of the game when Fig supposedly "dies", like what happened to him? He didn't get hit directly by Ranrok, or got Avada KedavrED, I don't know, they could've ended his time in the game waaay better, with him saying "This is for you, Miriam" and going crazy on Ranrok until he eventually dies, something like that, and it would really give an emotional connection with Fig, as we missed it during the game.

To wrap this up, what a game.
If you're a Harry Potter fan, take your time to appreciate this game, it has it's criticisms as any other game, however, it's one of those games that really surpass the expectations and put you INSIDE the Harry Potter universe.
With all of that said, here I go on my journey to 100% complete this game!

Alright, I was caught by surprise with this game.

When it was first announced, I didn't care much for it. Fantastic Beasts was a flop, and even though I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, I don't trust the games industry anymore. I thought the release date was much further away, so I only discovered it one month before release, and my interest started to grow slowly. After getting my hands on it, here are my thoughts:

The beginning of the game is not its strong point, especially if you expect something like the movies. But the more you play, the better the game becomes.

The main story was okay, but what really got me into the game were the relationship quests and how they were connected to the main storyline. Unfortunately, the influence of these quests - in the consequences factor - was literally irrelevant, but the atmosphere was there. The development of the characters could have been better, but following them on their journey was good enough. I also loved the way the developers approached the houses. In the movies, besides Gryffindor, most characters were one-dimensional and behaved according to the stereotypes of their houses. That's not the case here. As a critic, I must say that the conclusion of those side quests could be more unpredictable. Actually, I could say that about all of the main quest storylines.

Is the game difficult? It depends. It can be, but it's up to you. I played on hard and chose to use the minimum amount of potions as possible, including life. That way, three hits and I was dead. After getting used to the spells and the enemies, it becomes okay. All I needed was to understand the weaknesses of my opponents and pay attention.

Hogwarts is beautiful. Not as magical as in the movies, but pretty good. Exploring it is rewarding, and the way the developers placed chests and challenges was amazing. The open world surprised me a lot. I didn't expect such a huge place, with so many possibilities for exploration. Another thing that made me love this game was how much content is in it. A good example is the Room of Requirement. I lost count of how many times I thought it was over, but no, they just throw more and more content at you - and that happened even in the last stages of the game. Amazing. You know when you're playing a game that was made with love.

But there's something I still haven't talked about, and it can be a game-breaker for a lot of people: the optimization.

It's broken. I had to spend hours looking for mods to fix the game. After trying many of them, I found one: Ascendio 3.0. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't be writing this review, so a huge thanks to the modders. With the mod, I played the game with 45 fps locked at 1080p, with most settings on high. And it was beautiful - but obviously not as much as the requirements to play it suggest, since 16GB of RAM is not enough without a mod. Overall, I'm happy with the game. There's so much to talk about, but I'm getting tired of writing. I do recommend it, but be aware of its optimization problems. Maybe in a year, it will be playable without mods - but if you have a console, you can disregard this.

I loved so much about this game but it also had it's share of things that I did not like.

The people around the school are so static. You can basically bowl them over on your hippogriff and they won't even react. That really breaks the immersion for me. I also wish that they did a bit better with the secret passages throughout the school. That was always the best thing about the old games and I think that the expansion out of the school was detrimental to this.

I did find the combat to be really fun, getting good combos was satisfying. I hear people fell of the story but I thought the end of it really came together beautifully. Flying on the broom felt so freeing and I loved all the things you could do with the Room of Requirement.

It also looked quite good on my pc and I enjoyed their take on the magical music.

As a Harry Potters world fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a truly excellent game set in the Wizarding World. Hogwarts Legacy finally delivers that magical experience. Here’s why:

- Stunning World Design: The open-world map perfectly captures the vibe of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. From the castle to Hogsmeade and the surrounding nature, everything is meticulously designed.
- Top-Notch Graphics: The visuals are breathtaking. Exploring iconic locations feels like stepping into the pages of J.K. Rowling’s books.
- Immersive Sound Design: The magical soundscape enhances the experience. Whether it’s casting spells or wandering the Forbidden Forest, the audio pulls you in.
- Engaging Story: While the plot has its holes (as most Harry Potter tales do), the characters are memorable. You’ll befriend classmates, uncover secrets, and face off against evil forces.
- Quests Galore: There’s never a dull moment. Side quests are fun, and there’s always something new to discover.
- Optimization: The game runs smoothly, which is a relief after some recent disappointments (cough Cyberpunk 2077 cough).
If you’re a Potterhead (or not), this game is a must-play. It’s like receiving that long-awaited Hogwarts letter. It’s baffling that Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t nominated in Games Awards. It outshines many other titles.
Once again, one of the best AAA games I’ve played in recent years!

I loved this game, it was spectacular! Everything from the story to the combat were so fun! The only issue was that on xbox one x there are a lot of loading screens between both main areas and every door features a 30s wait before you can go through.

Worth playing if you are a fan of Harry Potter or are new to open world RPGs. The combat system is good but the game is too easy even on hardest difficulty if you have decent experience in gaming. The world design is top notch just missing a little depth from character interactions to really bring it to life more. A good game that could have been amazing if it was better in a few different areas.

A good game, but marred with generic design choices and not enough player expression for a game that claims to be a truly open world Harry Potter experience. The moment to moment gameplay is good. Exploring is fun, combat is slick with a wide variety of spells to experiment and to play with at your own whim, and some of the main missions are generally a good time. The game falls flat with it's narrative, with the "chosen one" narrative running thin early onto the game. Granted the game needs to make you feel special, but the scope of the story takes away from the main attraction of the game, which is Hogwarts Castle. Splendidly recreated, the castle is an incredible area to explore, however the region surrounding the game excluding the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade is nothing special to write home about.
It's definitely a solid base that can be improved on in a sequel, however we'll be stuck with a game that is great, but falls just short of being a definitive experience that we were all expecting from this game.
