Great game with an amazing art style. I’m not the biggest fan of puzzle games, so it wasn’t really for me. Though I can really see why people love this game so much. It has a nice mystical vibe to it and the animations and physics are also great.

Pretty solid puzzle platformer, that doesn't overstay its welcome. I found the last section pretty fun. The part where you become the monster and start crushing through areas. The animations and feel of the game is really well done. Movements and actions are simple, but the well done visual feedback makes them fun. General vibe is nice and spooky.
Puzzle are decent, but not amazing, mostly because they are straight forward. The puzzles are varied though, although some ideas felt over played (for example, luring enemies so you have enough time to do a certain action). My favorite puzzle was probably the one where you build up an army of people.
If your looking for more Limbo type games then it's worth playing, but this game doesn't particularly reinvent that genre, just more of the same.

If there was ever a game that showcased that less is more, this is it. A game from a relatively small team, a low poly aesthetic, minimal texturing, little to no voice acting and a thread-bare story that manages to be much more engaging than countless other games with magnitudes more size and scope. They've managed to their previous game and just expand and improve upon it yet remain distinctive. At its core this is a very simple game, a puzzle platformer where you're only real means of interaction are running, jumping, pushing, pulling and contextual interaction with various objects, but this is enough to carry the game across 3 hours or so without getting boring. Various other mechanics are added across this playtime and are adequately explored in their depth and complexity without ever feeing too annoying or frustrating to engage with, in terms of difficulty and problem solving they nailed that aspect quite adeptly.
My favourite thing about this game though is just the attention to detail, more specifically in animation. There's a lot of little movements, or situational movements that have been captured here than lend a real sense of weight to the character and the world and that feeds into the immersion, it makes the world feel tangible in ways that many games of a similar nature might fall flat on. The best example I can think of is entering the cornfield, either you can push up against the gate and the character will clamber through it, but attempting to jump over will cause the boy to place his foot on the gate, in turn causing it to swing open leading to him losing his footing and stumbling. It's just one of those little things you might never notice, didn't need to be designed that way but it's delightful that it is and those kinds of things are just strewn throughout this game.
The weakest part of the game for me is in the lack of storytelling. By relying on the minimalist, environmental style they did, the game at various points starts to feel a bit vague and directionless. The first third of the game is fantastic for me, the goal is simple, flee and evade capture from what seems to be an extremely hostile authoritarian society that appears to be enslaving its populace. There's a real terror and palpable threat here and no further explanation is required. Towards the middle of the game however things start to feel a bit more meandering, like the game wants to tell a story between points A and C but we need to be shown point B along the way to give context to everything. As a result this whole point of the game can start to feel like a guided museum tour where we visit various places just for the sake of the developers needing to show us them rather than for having any real organic reason to be there. I found myself asking at several points "why am I here?" or "where am I going and for what purpose?". That's not to say these places and sights aren't interesting or engaging, just that it felt rather arbitrary and convenient at times to be in these specific places of narrative importance, if that makes sense.
The final act comes out of left field somewhat and while not bad, changes things up in ways I could understand people not feeling truly satisfied with. The ending also happens rather abruptly and tries to end on a poignant or retrospective note, but combined with the vague mystery threaded through the game with various things feeling ambiguous or largely unexplained, it can fall somewhat flat as you now have to think back across 3 hours worth of gameplay trying to jigsaw it all together and hope it makes sense. The ending isn't bad but I can't help feeling there were better ways to go about it is all.
Overall though this is a solid game, and well worth a look in. Short enough you can't get too annoyed with it, engaging enough that the time should fly by and will still feel satisfying. Never too hard, never too easy, lots of effort and charm and skill clearly on display by the developers. Atmospheric and compelling and interesting in terms of subject matter as well, enough to make you think about the implications of all you're viewing throughout the playthrough.

Inside is so cult that I almost feel sorry about being disappointed. But after a second playthrough, I didn't manage to change my mind.Limbo, IMHO, was a better game, with a perfect balance between mysterious unspoken lore and gameplay. Inside, as it fully embraces its 'cinematic platformer' legacy, is too much about lore, and since I already knew what to do with the (simple) puzzles, it felt even more passive than the first time.
It's a very short game so all in all, that's fine, and the atmosphere is obviously great. But to be honest, it's a little boring at times.

It's not often I play a game that I'm able to complete in a single day, which I find to be pretty charming. The visuals and art style of the game are spectacular, the art direction just seems extremely well done. I can't say I completely understand the narrative of the game, it seems like it's sort of meant to be open ended and left up to player interpretation which I'm all about, but I didn't really get a ton out of it. The platforming is pretty good, it feels consistent and the platforming level design is quite good. The one major thing that is driving my score down here is the puzzles. Many of the puzzles are just cryptic or unintuitive, I didn't really enjoy getting stuck on a single puzzle for 15-20 minutes because I missed one vital thing by not walking in the other direction. Overall the visuals, narrative, and platforming are good. But the large amount of annoying, tedious, and cryptic puzzles drag the game down for me.

Just an absolute classic. A masterpiece. Cinematic gaming at its best. Every frame of this game is a work of art. The puzzles aren't as head-scratching as LIMBO, but they get the job done. I wish we could have gotten another game like this from this team to round out a trilogy, but alas that will never happen. So we're left with this beautiful, haunting, mysterious, surreal experience. And I'm ok with that. And holy moly me oh my, I'd love to be in the middle of that giant amalgamated ball of human flesh! I bet it's so smooth and satisfying, just like this game!Updated 1.5 Months Ago

+Atmospheric and darkly twisted world+Tells a compelling story without a single word of dialogue
+a great variety of puzzles and challenges throughout the game
-Reliant at times on trial and error
-Certain puzzles go on longer then they need
-Ending was abrupt and could’ve been more fleshed out
Overview:
Inside a beautifully bleak and abstract puzzle platform game that is short and sweet and has a great variety of puzzles and challenges that things don’t get old quickly. There is no dialogue at all within the game but tells it’s story extremely well just by using actions and the background to paint a type of would that the character is in. The game can be a bit too reliant on trial and error and certain puzzles can go on for too long but this game is very much worth a play.

Inside was... interesting. I've played Limbo previously, and I think I do like Limbo more. I also wasn't majorly impressed even if I did think it was solid. Inside feels much akin to Limbo, but it just doesn't really feel like it's as good of a game, unfortunately, since it doesn't really quite have the same essence that Limbo does.Let me explain what I mean. Simply, Limbo is a story about being stuck in purgatory - even down to the name of the game itself. "Limbo". What is Inside supposed to be? Inside your own mind? After playing The Beginner's Guide I feel reluctant to really poke and prod at someone's artistic vision too much, but I can't pretend like I understand what Inside is supposed to be. I can't pretend to act like Inside resonated with me somehow. I came away from Inside wondering what the hell I just witnessed. I get the gist that it's supposed to be about being controlled, due to the elements of mind-control, and the Huddle at the end being sectioned off in a very deliberate way by the scientists involved.
However, Inside having such an unclear message makes it so it doesn't resonate at all. Limbo had an unclear message, but the game played around its themes enough to let that sink in by the time you get to the end. And I don't even like Limbo that much, but Inside simply doesn't do that. It's more open for interpretation, which some may argue is a good thing. I'm not asking for Indie devs to spoonfeed the meaning of their games at all, quite the contrary actually, but what I am saying is that they need to be a little more clear than what this is. Because I'm not really sure how to feel after playing Inside.
I do think however that Inside is a good game and I did enjoy playing it. I love the artstyle, I love the aesthetic. I actually think the gameplay is better than Limbo and flows a lot better. A lot of times in Limbo, it felt like the gameplay was kind of running in place or involved a lot of backtracking puzzles. Inside is paced really well despite being so short, and it keeps things moving forward without forcing you to look at a walkthrough to wonder what the hell you're doing as much. So I have to give them praise for that.
Maybe it's a little unfair, but I just kinda wanted Inside to make me feel something like Limbo did, even if Limbo didn't resonate with me that much. Inside unfortunately doesn't despite being a good game.

I played this game in two large chunks. The second more enjoyable than the first. Right after playing limbo, I fired this game up. Initially, I thought it harder and graphically more boring than limbo. I was frustrated at the difficulty and gave up about 1/2 of the way through because u wasn’t enjoying myself. After that, I came back some months later and found it to be amazing. The puzzles were not only easier than limbo and more fun, but the graphics were phenomenal, the art style so telling of the deeper meaning of the game. This game is a work of art, it belongs in a museum. It reminds me of some critically acclaimed dystopian novel. The ending floored me, albeit slightly unsatisfying, I loved it. The atmosphere was executed perfectly. 9.5/10 for such a work of art, -0.5 for my initial discomfort.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Like how the game starts without any context given and finishes with even less explanations. The visuals, animation, physics and sound design are just gorgeous and have a really good attention to details.I didn't pick all the collectibles so I don't know if they change anything and help grasping the story better. But even with an obtuse story, with only what the world tells, you can theorize and reach your own conclusions.

Replayed and completed Inside (2016), one of the best games I have ever played. Peak presentation, graphics, environmental storytelling. It is one of the most captivating and eerie dystopian art form I have ever gone through.
To otevírá poměrně zajímavé možnosti, zajímavé mechaniky.
Suma sumárum hra přináší několik zajímavých nápadů v opravdu seriózním až dokonalém zpracování. Několik bizardních momentů, kupříkladu ke konci s blobem, který může připomínat Oplodnění in vitro, avšak nakonec především ladnou hratelnost okořeněnou skvělou fyzikou a umělo inteligencí.

Updated 6.5 Months Ago

Inside tells the story of an unnamed young boy, who continuously runs away from strange individuals, often heading into unsafe territory. The narrative is told via puzzles and gameplay sequences, creating situations that require critical thinking and problem solving skills. The runtime is short, at around 3 to 4 hours of gameplay.Inside offers a dark and dreary experience, filled to the brim with disturbing scenes. The music is very subtle, so it's hard to say if I can recall the soundtrack accurately; however, the art direction is really unique, creating atmospheric and tense scenery throughout. Unfortunately, as a platformer, it doesn't offer a lot of replayability. The controls can also feel a bit off sometimes.
Regardless, Inside is a unique, riveting platformer that offers an eerie, unique experience, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Give it a go sometime; I enjoyed my time with it.
Final Score: 8/10 (Incredible!)
