Perfect game.

I was hesitant when I started getting into it. I wasn't sure about the characters, the gameplay felt off, combat felt clunky. I changed my mind on all of it within five hours.

What I liked:
* The story is engaging. We're following Jin Sakai and his group of warriors as he's trying to free his island from the Mongols.
* The aforementioned group as their own sidequests which are all great to complete for story purposes.
* The visuals are stunning. The landscapes are gorgeous. I loved every second of my stay in Tsushima.
* The music has a great way of lifting up the storytelling further. The flute broke me a couple of times
* Kage my horse <3
* Combat felt nice and snappy. Additional attacks next to dodging and blocking are great. I stopped using things to break the enemy as I started getting stronger and stronger. Combat is never hard. It gets slightly easy toward the end even.
* The guiding wind is a bit gimmicky at times but it works well.
* The foxes <3
* Collectibles never felt overwhelming. I don't always go for a platinum but this game made it very doable especially because you don't have to collect every single thing.

What I didn't like:
* Nothing actually. I really enjoyed my time with this game.

I'm excited to play the DLC next and I'm eagerly awaiting Ghost of Yotei.

An absolutely incredible experience from start to finish.

Front and center for this game stands the gameplay/combat.
The stance-system makes the melee combat fun and engaging. It also looks flashy and feels great to fight the enemies in this game.
The ranged combat works great with a satisfying feedback to it, and the various different throwables also serves to keep the combat system feeling fresh throughout the entire playthrough.

Another part of the game I really enjoyed was the story.
I found myself invested in the characters and their relationships, aided by the solid voice acting, and I was eager to push the story forward to see how the next part would unfold, as well as follow the development of the MC.

Visually the game looks gorgeous. I never got tired of riding on my horse through the Japanese landscapes, just taking in the scenery.
The wind system they've implemented, that replaces the classic objective marker, is also a really nice touch.
That, together with the visuals, as well as the games soundtrack and audio-design really helped me to immerse myself when traversing around the Island of Tsushima.

Only two things detracted from my experience.
The first one being the facial animations off non main missions. These looks quite stiff and janky, which when put in contrast to an otherwise gorgeous world, stands out quite a bit.
Secondly is about combat. While I think the combat system in this game is amazing, I did find it a little too easy towards the latter half of the game.
I am by no means a "sweat", I am actually quite casual, but I played it on the hardest difficulty, and once you unlocked a certain amount of skills and upgraded your weapons all the way, it did trivialize the combat a little bit.
I just wish the enemies would pose a bigger threat than they did by the end.

Still, these two minor gripes is far from enough to put a damper on my enjoyment of an otherwise incredible game.

A solid game with a solid story.
If you like samurai, ninja, japan and a story about justice then I recommend.
But if you are not sold in the first few hours I don't recommend you suffer through it all.
Oh yeah and of corse PLAY ON THE HARDEST DIFFICULTY.. otherwise the game is boring.

Ghost of Tsushima is a game I was incredibly interested in and excited about since it was initially revealed, but ended up passing on, because it released around the same time I was building my PC, and ultimately stopped using my PS4. The rumors leading upto the eventual surprise announcement of a PC port in the works got me absolutely brimming with hype, Charr got it for me as an anniversary present :3
In short, I'm a bit conflicted with the game as a whole, because what's good, genuinely stands toe-to-toe with some of the best literary and visual work that the medium has to offer; but what doesn't, can be middling, and feel sort of bog-standard, and corporately watered down to fit the wider palate of the modern AAA audience. I'm struggling a bit to write about it without spoiling things, I kind of clunkily have to write around anything super major, so bear w me on that front.
Thematically tragic as it is engrossing, Ghost of Tsushima is a masterclass in storytelling and thematically engaging, boasting strong characters with beautiful portrayals, with storylines that accentuate and exemplify the game's core theming, alongside some of the best art direction I have ever seen in anything, point blank. I'm not usually one for eye candy games, or have a particular proclivity for graphical fidelity, but my lord, the landscapes feel so painstakingly rendered - that basically every angle is wallpaper material, it is genuinely gorgeous to look at 100% of the time, easily a hall-of-famer in the art direction department.
My main issues stem from the actual play; the game feels so much like a jack of all trades, master of none. Combat is fundamentally, baseline, pretty good. It's flashy, it's bloody, it *looks* like something out of a Kurosawa film, but it's basic. You can feel the devs languishing, trying to wring some sort of mechanical complexity out of the system, with the addition of stance types for different enemy varieties, hidden moves/techniques; and they're cool to use, there's spice being added, but it's never rewarding, it's entirely optional. It just culminates into a game of "Simon Says," with a couple new moves added. Difficulty only comes in numbers, be it more enemies, more health, more unblockable attacks. It's not great, it's most definitely not bad, it's just pretty good; A for effort, it's good, if it doesn't have flash, it has nothing.
The same issue crops with stealth, it's a very strong option, you can sidestep and speed up most encounters by using stealth, but it's rarely a requirement, and suffers from the same issue as combat; it's basic. The same as every post-2010 AAA optional stealth system, essentially. Hide in tall grass, divert enemy attention, backstab, repeat ad-infinitum.
This genuinely isn't a knock to the game, but for a game with a 50+hour runtime in what I played, it kind of starts to wear thin, and no amount of dressing is going to change that.
I think the catalyst for my complaints come from one core feature: the game is open-world, which is fine! I don't have the same disdain for open worlds that others do, but making a vastly linear storyline in a game with a (mostly) open world, basically necessitates a struggle for a good balance in mechanics, they have to be bare by necessity. Everything from enemy camps to story missions needs to be approachable, from all angles. With or without some tools, techniques, skills, etc, because the design has to factor in how the player has/hasn't engaged with the world. The best missions are usually story missions, as they're the only real missions with a sort of subsequent linearity that knows what you have and where you got it, it's able to provide a linear, mechanical throughline that explores the possibilities of your tools, and to what extent they can be used. This leads to a whole chunk of the game feeling super sanitized, and just watered down, and doesn't really ever push the limit on what's possible with what's provided in totality.
Reading all of this back, this looks so scathing, because in truth, the whole thing is fun, it's shallow, it doesn't really fire the synapses, but it *is* fun, and the play is a decent enough vehicle between the parts of the game that truly resonate, which would be story beats. The game is truly at it's best when it slows down, engulfs the player in the story, and takes you through a world that's just beautifully crafted. There's a character sidestory, where you just walk, and pick flowers with an old lady, admiring landmarks from her past, and it's genuinely more moving and engaged me more than some of the other mechanically driven objectives in other side missions.
Ghost of Tsushima is a wonderful game, the critique may sound harsh, but I feel I just expected something that didn't necessarily feel so "safe," for lack of a better word. It's an AAA game through and through, and it's for the AAA market. It's a product of being art being created commercially for the masses, for better and for worse.

Combat Is Actually Peak. It's Extremely Fluid, Pleasing And Diverse In It's Approach To Every Situation. And Lethal Mode Really Accentuates That - It Feels Realistic; Risk/Reward Type Stuff

Following The Wind To Travel To Destinations Is Also A Really Cool Concept That I Enjoyed Over The Traditional Mini-Map/Marker

The Visuals In This Game Are Godly. Everything Looks So Clean - Especially The Meticulously Crafted Landscapes. Scaling A Mountain And Just Looking On Into The Distance Is Truly Rewarding

The Story Is Really Interesting To Watch Unfold. From Jin Battling His Pride, To Him Finally Defeating Khotun Kan. It's An Emotional Rollercoaster That I Enjoyed All Throughout
The Final Battle With Shimura Is Pure Cinema - It Was Saddening To Play, But A Well-Done Conclusion To The Main Story (Regardless Of Which Option You Choose)

Side Quests Can Get Repetitive, But I Think It's Neat The Way You Get To Know Your People Through It - It's A Nice Way To World Build

I Also Like How Accessible The Game Is With All Of It's Extra Options (I Don't Personally Need Them, But It's Nice That The Option's There For People That Do)

Perfect this may surpass Persona 5 as my favourite game.

Edit: did not surpass Persona 5 but easily top 3 games I have ever played. Story was perfect and didn't overstay its welcome. only downside is the crazy amount of side activities and collectibles which make the game bloated.

Edit2: I tried to go back and platinum the game and saying the game was bloated was an understatement. This feels like a higher quality ubisoft open world. There are so many fucking collectibles, so many shrines, so many areas to liberate its actually insane. I loved this game when I played the main story but attempting this platinum has shown me that this games open world is very superficial. Narratively it makes sense but not worth the effort. The tales are also really cool but having 9 tales for a bunch of the characters is annoying, 5 would have been the sweet spot if not maybe 6, 2 for each act. I give up on the platinum, the more I attempt it the more I hate the game.

Edit3: I went back and got all the achievements and can 100% say that this game was super bloated. 61 tales, 7 mythic tales, 49 fox dens, 18, hot springs, 6 duels, 16 bamboo strikes, and 22 haikus make this game very miserable to play. The platinum isn't a hard thing to get, it is a time sink which is 100% not worth it. Some of the tales were fun but many followed the same formula of do this and come back with there usually being a twist at the end. For example, in Masako's tales you go around trying to find out who ordered the assassination on her family and find out at the 8th tale that it was her sister, this occurs for all 3 characters that have tales that are 9 missions, Norrio finds out it was his brother who gave mongols information and Ishikawa find out his student was abandoned by the mongols. For the non character specific ones this formula also occurs. For example, in the quest "The Cost of Fear" you meet someone who won't let you in so you go find her some medicine only to come back and see that the mongols have burned her house down and killed her. Majority of quests follow this formula. The other things like fox dens, etc are also really annoying to do. There are so fucking many fox dens scattered every where. It would have been better to make 16-24 fox dens but make them difficult and high quality rather than follow the fox 49 fucking times. Also I hate the Legend Story Teller because every fucking question mark on the map would be him. A better solution would have been to allow players to go into Legends using a menu and not a NPC that is fucking every where.

It has everything a good game needs. Good art style, gameplay, cinematics, story, music. Literally Assassins Creed in Japan but with better combat, story, and open world. That makes my expectations for AC Shadows, from ubi, very low. Let's see.

Possible spoilers
Only downside would be the forced ghost playstyle, maybe have diferent endings. I would sometimes do the samurai style, even in the Shimura castle, end of act 2, and it says that I was too much of a ghost with no honor. Well my 3rd act I just did that, stealth and dishonorable stuff

Pros:
- very well balanced gameplay (just as difficult as needed for stories like that)
- graphics, Japanese scenery and costumes are just a pleasure to watch
- the greatest combat choreography with good controls is one of the strongest side of the game: battles are always desired time to spend in the game
- great in-game interface and interaction with NPC and main characters, which makes the game feel nice and smooth
- nice story about honour, war and family, good ending for drama

Cons:
- sometimes it might feel too easy and casual
- graphics has a strange feature with overlightning daytime sceneries

Overall, very good and solid game, almost flawless, but not the one that will be favourite and remembered for a lifetime.

What an amazing game, truly a work of art. The open world design is superb, on par with the best of Rockstar or Ubisoft, catapulting Sucker Punch to the top tier of game studios. Newer Assassins Creed games might have a slight edge in that you can climb anywhere, but I dont really need Jin to be a parkour master.

The story is compelling, somber, the upgrades build on fight mechanics that equal or surpass any game out there. And the side quests are marvelous. Following foxes for charms, composing haiku for resolve, and resting in hot springs for health all add elements of beauty and elegance while offering a break between battles. The ethical and spiritual underpinnings of the Samuri code add power and weight to the story.
The "stealth" or "action" option is often available in this kind of game, where the player can casually decide to strike from the shadows, or charge in sword swinging. To the Samurai, that option is presented very differently; will you adhere to your strict Samurai code of honor against all odds, or will you dishonor yourself and your clan with your actions?

I rate this among the top video games ever, perfect score, please make more!

I went in with unrealistic expectations for this game. I've heard so many good things that I imagined god knows what.

It's still a good title. Side activities are repetetive, but you can pet foxes.

It has an interesting way of guiding you towards your objective (with a wind) I rly liked that.

The setting is interesting, the main story is okayish.

The game is extremly beautiful.

I just finished act 2, saddest video game moment 10/10.

I stayed around doing some side quests, but I cant be bothered to 100% it, i dont want to overstay in this game and end up hating it. UPDATE. after beating a few games I felt the need to return to this game and I did end up getting a platinum trophy.

Somehow as time passed this game rly grew on me even more. I initially felt dissapointed because it did not live up to the hype, then I liked it, and then I rly rly liked it. It is a very solid title that respects your time. It's not too long for an open world game.

What struck me most about this game was how organic it was. The flowing wind, insects, grass, flowers, ash, pollen -- it'll almost trigger your allergies. The sound design also stood out to me in a postitive way.

The game put a lot of admirable work in avoiding the standard mini-maps & compasses. The wind, birds, foxes, and footprints are all ways it steers you to places while keeping you engaged with the environments.

I liked the points of introspection peppered throughout the game. The steam baths and particularly the haiku were well integrated into the story. They were a nice touch and respectful to the culture.

I liked how every sidequest tied back into the main conflict of the Mongol invasion. This kept them much more interesting and relevant. There are a long sequence of quests for each of the major side characters, which gives a lot of opportunity for deep character development. Overall, I found the main storyline engaging and touching.

I found the gameplay very repetitive after a while. Other than the main quest set pieces (which are amazing & well-done), most of your interactions with the world are limited. Particularly the combat encounters, which is either clearing a camp or coming across roving bands. The game gives you a variety of tools to use (flaming arrows, blow darts, firecrackers, smoke bombs, horse ramming, etc) but doesn’t give enough variation in enemy encounters, so I ended up using the same equipment and techniques throughout my game. Here is were the Ubisoft games do better; their camps are unique enough that you have to approach them differently. Here, the camps are pretty much all the same.

This lack of encounter diversity also reduced the usefulness of the charm system, a major element of the game. After about 10 hours or so into the game, I pretty much had my charm buildout that I used the entire length of my playthrough.

Combat itself was very enjoyable. The stances, parrying, enemy types all made for an excellent combat look that I was able to slowly master and never tired of.

The most annoying aspect of the game to me was there's so much focus on cosmetics. I would seek out a question mark on a map, only to reveal an item that I cared nothing about. I spent hours inadvertently seeking out crap I didn't want. My recommendation to new players are to use skill points on the guiding winds so you only traverse to areas that can benefit your character's stats.

Ghost of Tsushima lived up to the hype for me. What stood out to me was the beauty of the world, the views and scenary were absolutely breath-taking. I have never taken so many screenshots while playing a video game before. The combat was also very well done and never got boring, they captured how it was to fight as a badass samurai and I loved every minute of it. The progression was also great as you get stronger and stronger as the game progresses. Also, one of my favorite open world games as it encourages you to want to explore every corner of the map and complete all the objectives in order to improve your character (fox shrines, bamboo strikes, hot springs, etc). The guiding wind is also the best navigating mechanic in any game ever.

The main story is also captivating and makes you care for each of the characters. The only con I have for this game is that the side quests are very redundant and become repetitive. But overall, a masterpiece of a game and you can tell the love that was put into this game. Getting platinum was also fairly easy and fun to accomplish. Highly recommended.

A great game. It's one of the most visually stunning experiences I've ever played, featuring precise, refined, and deeply satisfying combat against well-designed and varied enemies. The story and somewhat weak main boss fights are the only downsides for me, but even then, there's strong character development for Jin, especially if you play the Iki expansion. And the duels are some of the most enjoyable fights in the game. It's a definite must-play, even if you're not usually a fan of open-world action-adventure titles. The combat and visuals are top-tier, and the open-world elements are both pleasant to explore and unobtrusive.

The graphics and gameplay are nothing short of greatness. However, while the story was good, I felt it was a little lackluster. None of the side quests are especially memorable.

Truly an amazing experience.

Well, the first thing that will draw your attention is the art direction. It's crazy how much the wind impacts how the game looks. The world seems alive and unique since you feel like a samurai. More than that, the mechanics encourage you to explore naturally. You wanna find your mission or health places? just follow the wind. That way, HUD is almost unnecessary for most of the game. The use of colors and cinematography is top tier either. I can't remember another game that drove me so many times to just appreciate the scenario and shoot a photo of it. Also, the photography mode here is almost perfect. So many choices you can do, with a pretty volatile engine. Weather is a good example. It changes the game so much that it looks like another map sometimes.

The graphic is not the only satisfying thi****meplay-wise, this game shines. Combat flows amazingly most of the time and the techniques made it a lot deeper than it would be without it. Boss fights are good, especially the scenario and context involving them. Its difficulty is relative, but I can't say it will demand knowledge and caution.

And about the story? It's ok, to be honest. The dialogs are kinda unnatural sometimes, and I believe that's bad considering the deep discussion that the game brings. The character development could be better. It's not bad, but abrupt. Happily, even with those flaws, I believe the discussion about honor and family - and overall the way of living - is beautifully set. I couldn't hold my tears at the very end, and both choices are so deep that it makes the journey worth your time.

Negative points? Fps drops and Stealph missions. Since the game is handled beautifully by and 2013 console, I will disregard it. But the stealth, man... those sections are bad since the game ends if you are caught. Good stealth games are volatile and the is not sometimes.

Anyway, I totally recommend it.

When Ghost of Tsushima was announced few years ago, I was very interested in playing it. Unfortunately, as time passed by, I started losing interest.
It's been more than a year since Ghost of Tsushima came out though, and I finally decided to give it a try.
It might come off as a surprise to some of you, but the story of Ghost of Tsushima is a mixed bag in my opinion; it's alright, predictable and not very interesting, but not underwhelming either, just decent.
Same goes for the characters; they're likeable and their Tales are quite intriguing, but half of them are rather forgettable.
The gameplay is amazing though; it's one of my favorite parts of the entire game. It's as deep as it needs to be, it's challenging, it looks very cinematic and it feels incredibly satisfying.
The music is awesome too, and the cinematography and the visuals are some of the best I've seen in a videogame.
Also, I really like the way this game utilizes the touch pad.
As I said before, the world looks gorgeous, however, the side-content is repetitive for the most part and the unskippable dialogue makes the chores even more tedious than they already are.
Also, the stealth system lacks depth and there are so many mandatory stealth missions in the story, I didn't expect it.

Pros:
+ Serviceable story and characters
+ Enjoyable and satisfying gameplay
+ Fantastic soundtract
+ Incredible visuals & cinematography
+ Utility of the touch pad

Cons:
- Quest design
- Unskippable dialogue
- Shallow stealth system

Narrative: 6/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Content: 7/10
Characters: 6/10
Music: 9/10
Graphics/Audio: 10/10

Final Rating: 7.5/10
- Very Good -
Despite its fair amount of flaws, Ghost of Tsushima is better than the sum of its parts; it's very fun to play, it looks spectacular, it has an engaging story and a big map filled with content.

Do I recommend it?:
Yes but I'd recommend it mostly to people who enjoy playing Open World games.
