It’s probably in the top 2 or 3 of the best games I’ve ever played. Its story is incredible; it pulls you into the plot, and you just have to keep going—you can’t put the game down. You feel like you need to know what will happen next. The gameplay is fascinating; it has some flaws, but it’s still really good. The graphics and atmosphere are also beautifully crafted, adding depth to every scene. The soundtrack perfectly matches the mood, enhancing the tension and excitement at all the right moments. Overall, it’s a unique experience that keeps you hooked from start to finish

This game was free on PS Plus, so I made sure to play it because I had heard many good things about it. I played the game walking in blind and I was captivated by the story and the amount of detail in this game. I found the characters Ellie and Joel to be very likeable as the have to manage this cruel world. It is everyone for themselves, and they do a good job of looking out for one another.

I found the gameplay to be exciting, and I really enjoyed the stealth components. I liked how tense situations could be, especially when I had low ammo, and I had to be careful not to waste any shots. I found that the game was a bit too easy when using listening mode as you could see through walls and dictate your approach, so when I play the sequel I'm going to make sure to disable it. I thought this was a core mechanic of the game, but I saw online that it was much better without it-- and I wished I did it sooner before completing the game. Oh well.

Other than that I highly recommend this game to anyone as it is one of my favourites (also it looks beautiful on the PS5)

Overall really good. I liked having similar mechanics to Uncharted but with a Mature rating. The story was great, but I felt the ending was rushed between the cannibals and the final hit with the fireflies.

Ever since the technology was available to do so, video games have been telling stories. But while well-written, thought-provoking narratives were present in titles throughout gaming's history, more cinematic elements—namely writing, dialogue, and voice acting—were usually considered luxuries in the video game industry. Of course, there were exceptions, but only in the 7th generation of consoles was significant consideration towards cinematography given to the average AAA game. One of the pioneers of this trend was Naughty Dog, a PlayStation developer who was known for their Uncharted series, which was known for its realistic dialogue and charismatic characters. But at the same time as developing the 3rd installment in the Uncharted series, Naughty Dog really pushed the envelope with their development of The Last of Us. And when it was released in 2013, everyone took notice; it was massively acclaimed, sold incredibly well, and has been generally considered one of the greatest games of all time ever since.

When The Last Of Us is brought up, discussion will inevitably go towards its narrative and its characters, and it's no secret why. In a medium full of epic tales and larger-than-life quests, TLOU tells a decidedly grounded story, with characters as its focus. Right from the opening scene, it's clear that this game is focused on crafting an emotional, impactful experience, and it delivers on that promise time and time again. Dialogue feels natural, character motivations are consistent, and the voice acting performances in this game are easily some of the most impressive in games to date. Joel and Ellie deserve special recognition, and witnessing their dynamic change from a business deal to a surrogate father-daughter relationship is very powerful. Special mention goes towards Ellie's confrontation with David—the emotional climax of the game—as we finally see, for the first time, the boundaries between Joel and Ellie broken down; it's an incredibly touching, cathartic moment. By placing character development as the vehicle to deliver the story, this game is full of character-driven moments like these, which makes immersing yourself in the world of TLOU extremely satisfying.

Its groundbreaking, cinematographic-like storytelling aside, The Last of Us was quite innovative in its gameplay and design as well. For a PS3 title—even for a modern title—the game looks fantastic. Despite the grim subject manner, so many areas of this game are serene and atmospheric. Sound design is incredible too and adds to the tension in each conflict. For a relatively simple 3rd-person shooter system, the game is quite varied in approach and consistently gives the player the tools to deal with each encounter as they wish. And in fitting with the tone of the game, the combat is incredibly brutal, but never to a point where it feels gratuitous. That's an impressive, almost underrated achievement for a game as violent as The Last of Us; many of the human enemies in the game have their own justifications, their own ambitions, and the game is good at conveying that it's either you or them. It's designed to weigh on your morality, and since the game never overtly picks a side, it's left to the player's interpretation to decide for themselves, which puts a lot more weight on their actions than most shooters like to.

Most of the story elements take place outside of the combat, so it's understandable that traversal between combat would be slower-paced. But the non-combat, non-story moments in The Last of Us do get pretty draining; there's only so many times you can find a conveniently placed ladder, plank, or pallet before you start hoping for some new kind of environmental challenge. There are plenty of times when it feels like the game is just playing itself, waiting to get to the next excellently written scene. It's not a secret that TLOU is more cinematic than its contemporaries, but sometimes it feels like the game is sacrificing too much gameplay in service of its narrative. Likewise, while the freedom of approach in combat is nice, it would be nice if there was more variety to stealth-based combat beyond physical takedowns.

These issues are mostly moment-to-moment ones, though, and aren't enough to cloud how strong of an overall game The Last of Us is. It's no secret how influential TLOU has been in the industry. Even with its relatively generic story concept, its densely layered characters and themes are strong enough to carry a powerful narrative. It's a risky move to commit so much to a storyline in a game like this, but it succeeds massively because of it, expertly demonstrating the best and worst of humanity several times over. Not many games will have players itching to get to the next cutscene, but those are the moments here that you're going to remember for years to come. Because even within its apocalyptic setting, it's the littlest moments—the real moments—that make The Last of Us truly excellent.

It's good! It's just not the "citizen kane of videogames" that I remember people saying back around when it came out. This is really an incredible TV miniseries trapped inside the skin of a very, very, very well-designed videogame (you'll just have to trust me when I say that I would have been saying that regardless of whether or not there were a highly-acclaimed HBO miniseries.) The issues stem from when those two modes clash together sorta haphazardly.

I'll add my voice to the group of people proclaiming that the ladder puzzles are not great, at least not after the fifth one. They're all nicely simple, & clearly just there to facilitate the character banter that's a little harder to fit into the traversal segments, but the puzzles end up being so simple that the only challenge is in negotiating the videogameiness to convince it to videogame correctly. When my only task is to place the ladder against a wall, & I press the triangle button whilst being a sufficiently ladder-placing sort of distance from said wall only for Joel to unceremoniously plonk the goddamn ladder on the goddamn floor, forgive me for getting frustrated with them. I just felt like these non-combat gameplay segments disrupted the flow far too much. I don't mind my only input for 15 minutes or so just being walking & listening. I've played enough JRPGs with 30-minute dialogue scenes that it wouldn't bother me.

The combat is really gracefully designed, even though I have some quibbles with the way Normal difficulty was balanced. Both me & my enemies felt far too tanky. I felt that I could take two too many hits for the tension to remain, & I sincerely can't fathom why everyone can somehow get shotgun-blasted in the torso by Joel from three feet away & yet still remain in perfect fighting condition. It might not immediately kill them, sure, but how on earth are they getting back up after that? I wanted a more lethal gameplay style, where one wrong pistol bullet can kill Joel, but one right pistol bullet can kill an enemy. It's not much of a surprise, then, that far & away my favourite portion of the gameplay was the brief section where you play as Ellie where, for an incredible, tense hour, that's actually true. It's incredible, & just made me wish the entire game was like that.

The story's great! but a few of the cutscenes speed through what would have been 8 or so minutes of the TV miniseries it clearly wants to be & eventually was & compresses it into about 4 minutes of videogame cutscene. The ending of the suburbs chapter is the most explicit form of this, speeding through what ought to be one of the most emotional moments & turning it into something only about 60% as effective. Which is still pretty effective, but god, I just want to watch the TV show to see these things given their proper time, especially with the number of 70+ minute episodes there.

All of this wouldn't be particularly worthy of criticism if this hadn't been heralded as the best thing since sliced bread, it's just that all of that hyperbolic praise has resulted in TLOU gaining mythic status, which makes the flaws this has stick out more than if I'd gone in without any expectations at all. The game is absolutely gorgeous; it's a treat to see this running on a PS3 & looking better than basically anything on my PS4 bar, presumably, TLOU pt. II. When the game's balancing works (I'll definitely give a Grounded Mode playthrough a shot someday), it's sublime, & has such subtle yet beautiful narrative tie-in that you wonder how they ever made it into a TV show, but when the cutscenes are playing, you really wonder why they didn't just make a TV show. This'll definitely get a higher mark from me if I ever beat Grounded Mode.

A Ellie é sensacional.
A história...

I'm not really a fan of the Zombie genre in media, and Survival Horror is not my cup of tea either, but the Last of Us is such a great game, I played it years ago so I don't really have it fresh, but i remember it was quite an adventure.

In the Last of Us you play as Joel, a man who has also everything in life and is one of the few survivors in this zombie post-apocalyptic world, later on, he finds a girl called Ellie, who presents traces of the sickness but seems to be immune to it, so the plot consists on him taking her on a journey to a far away lab to try find to the cure for the disease and the key to mankind's salvation.

In a general view, the setup is really well done and Naughty Dog makes a great use of the colors to guide you through your trip, the survival horror aspect is pretty cool, the zombies are really scary, the main theme is pretty iconic and the gunplay feels fine, and it runs at a good framerate (on ps4).

It's really interesting how as the story advances, Joel and Ellie seem to trust eachother more in a really realistic way, and somehow feel like a family.
The game is also presented in grey tones, and i really like that neutral point of view, the main characters will face truly horrible situations that will make you realize that zombies arent nearly as terrifying as us humans when we have lost all hope.

It has been 10 years since The Last of Us came out, and here I am after playing it. And yes, it's still an amazing game for today's standards (yes, the PS3 version!). Now, it's really easy to understand why this game has been loved for a decade. Also, it hits differently after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Storywise. This is the main part of the game. Although the genre is already well known (zombies, apocalypse, etc.), the main focus here is on the characters. It's very intensive in the dialogue. There are a lot of cutscenes here and there. Small talks every now and then. It feels like you are watching a movie. Also, it reminds me a lot of "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, so if you love this game, read this book.

Gameplay. Another big plus here. I love that when you are wandering around, no UI is visible, just like in a movie. It will only appear when you need it. Simply amazing for immersion. Like any survival game, you'll be rewarded by searching, planning your strategy to take down enemies, and also using the surroundings to your advantage. It's a game with a lot of liberty. The only aspect that I didn't like was the lack of different enemies or bosses. If it wasn't that, I would give it 100% easily.

Graphics. I played the PS3 version, and it's still beautiful. There are a lot of details and very diverse scenarios, so you won't be bored with it. Also, the animations—there are tons! Animations for killing, for waiting, for talking—the game really makes you think that the characters are alive.

Soundtrack. It's not very big because it's used when it's needed. So, you won't be playing with music behind you every time. It also puts you more "alone" in the apocalyptic world that this game brings. Last but not least, the voice acting—no words...

To finish the review. Play it, even if you aren't a gamer. There is an easy difficulty for people who want to enjoy the story.
