The one which I didn't walkthrough on my old Lenovo laptop, thanks to scratched disk, or more probably as a result of bad repack or burning, could be even all together. But anyways, I did beat this game, and my reaction was like "omg why I didn't play it before?".
The thing I can remember is the Africa campaigh, it was most interesting, at least because it had mission with tanks.
However, the game wasn't that interesting and lost a bit of its pace somewhere on pre-ending missions(?), but it is not a biggie.

A decent enough Call of Duty. I think it could've used a more connected story, but otherwise it's alright.

This is Call of Duty, a First-Person Shooter (FPS). You may have heard of it. What do you get for your money? Well, typically an 8-hour campaign set in some theatre of war, filled with multiple missions containing cinematic set pieces. For me, this is the main attraction and is usually worth the price of admission.

There's also a multiplayer game that I've occasionally dabbled in, but not very seriously since Call of Duty 2, when I unknowingly ran into my brother online and we traded kills, only comparing user names later and finding out we were on the same server, which was pretty funny!

Cool game. Campaign was fun and the missions felt more cohesive, like you had an overarching goal of capturing or retaking some territory. There's still a lack of functional vehicles, but the game felt more grand as there are more soldiers and explosions happening on the screen at one time. Most iconic moment was training to throw hand grenades using potatoes.

"The best WWII game ever?": Call of Duty 2 Review
Call of Duty 2 is the direct sequel to its 2003 counter-part, Call of Duty, developed once again by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for the PC, Xbox 360 with a Mac OS X release coming out in 2006. It's the second (major) installment in the Call of Duty franchise.

It can be said that Call of Duty 2 is a bit of a hidden and even forgotten gem within the franchise. The new IW 2.0 engine gives the game beautiful graphics, more polished gameplay, better character animations and just an overall more pleasant experience. What I really like about the campaign in Call of Duty 2 is that there is none of this 'You're an S.A.S. operator and you have to go behind enemy lines', it's all gritty World War 2 battles which doubles down of the emphasis of squad play with the friendly AI shouting out commands such as the enemy positions, instructions such as ordering you to pop smoke to cover your advances and even instructing other friendly AI to cover them or provide them covering or suppressing fire. To be fair, it does get quite two-dimensional after a while when every mission is just: clear out house, clear this objective, take this building, clear this area, etc. to the point where I felt like I was just repeating missions. Still, the campaign has its memorable moments such as the beginning of the American campaign where you have to take Pointe-Du-Hoc and you have that cool cinematic 'cutscene' if you want to call it that which is something straight out of Saving Private Ryan, and the dynamic duo of Captain Price and Private MacGregor.

Graphically, the IW 2.0 engine made this game look beautiful for a 2005 game and a much better improvement over the id Tech 3 engine that was used for the first game and its expansion pack. The engine is what really makes this game stand out. The introduction of grenade indicators, the sandbox freedom of the player being able to freely destroy enemy vehicles, doors (to some extent) and even some scripted destructibility allowing enemy tanks to blow the wall you are taking cover behind to expose you. The game is pretty much just a better and upgraded version of the first game, focusing more on actual World War II battles such as the Battle of El Alamein, Battle of Stalingrad and Moscow rather than somewhat fictional missions, straying away from those early Medal of Honor type of scenarios and towards something of its own thing.

To conclude the review, Call of Duty 2 for the most part, revolutionized the Call of Duty franchise and allowed it to be something new and fresh, rather than a Medal of Honor/Hollywood type of game running on a engine made by someone else. It allowed itself to find its own identity. It's a simple game, both Singleplayer and Multiplayer wise, which was fun but very repetitive towards the end of the game, and the game was over an hour longer than the original game (took me over 5 hours to complete this one)

Positive points:
- Beautiful graphics
- Interesting squad play by the AI
- New features (Grenade indicators, regenerative health)

Negative points:
- Missions get repetitive and boring after a while
- That damn grenade spam by the enemy
- Still got some kinks to work out

Another game of the past what i wanted to replay and to my surprise - this time it went really well.
Game is really enjoyable, climat is nice, challange is quite big (on highest difficulty), ai is working well - overall it was really nice jump to the past.
Tbh. the biggest problem of this game is... its age - when there is nothing newer of the same series or games close in concept to compare it's easier to don't look at stuff and thinking like: Man, it's sad that XYZ isn't here... but truth is a truth, details are lacking, maps try to look open but in reality they are really narrow, shoting does not feel great, ai literally just spam you with 3 grandes/sec... there isn't even much varriety when i really think about it... game of the past but still really good enjoyable expirence.

*Warning: Spoilers*

Epic installment in the series with a fresh new experience.

Call of Duty 2 is a big upgrade from the first one, from a time that game developers actually cared. In the basis, it is still a WWII shooter, like the first one, but with some new perspectives, storylines, improvements and a leap in graphics.

In Call of Duty 2, you get three separate storylines which you play in order. First, you play as Vasili Koslov in the Russian army, who fights in the battle of Stalingrad during the German invasion. After that, you are warped to the British army as Sergeant John Davis, which is stationed in Egypt in the fight against General Rommel. Halfway the campaign, you are switched to yet another character, David Welsh, a tank commander who is tasked with destroying enemy artillery. After the battle, you take on the role of John Davis once again in the defense of Matmata.

Lastly, you play as Bill Taylor, an American soldier which fights in the battle of Pointe Du Hoc. Afterwards, you play three more missions deep into Germany, on your way to Berlin.

The variation of the missions, characters and different cultures is what made this game so great. It shows many historical battles and let you experience the, sometimes hopeless, battles of the war. It really tells a story, something that is greatly missing in the Call of Duty games today.

The graphics in Call of Duty 2 are a huge improvement over the first game. Weapons, animations and environmental design are greatly improved and the game felt so realistic at the time. The new blood animations and the corpses that stay on the ground for long periods of time, really improved the experience. There is still no ragdoll in this game so the death animations of the enemies are still “static”, but that does not matter. There where, even then, also mods to make the game even more realistic like more blood, and even dismemberment. It was even more epic and realistic with those mods installed.

The only problem I encountered was a bug in the animations of the enemy soldiers, in which their mouths still move and produce silent slurs, while you just put a bullet between their eyes. This really freaked me out as a kid.

The sound design has also been greatly improved. Shots and grenades sound great and the enhanced bass in the explosions really gets you in the game. Enemy soldiers now throw slurs and insults at you which are hilarious when you understand German like me.

The new mechanics in which you need to take cover to regenerate is a welcome addition. I am used to games with health bars and finding medical kits to stay alive, but here, all is not lost when you just have 1 HP left and the enemy is coming for you. On the other hand, this removes some of the thrill to stay alive and find canteens or med kits, like the first Call of Duty or Medal of Honor.

Most of this review is from pure nostalgia, but nevertheless, Call of Duty 2 is just as good as I remembered it today. It is a huge leap from the first game and a worthy successor.

I would definitely recommend this classic to everyone.

Great level based WW2 shooter with no overarching story that laid the groundwork for the CoD series. You can see a lot of CoD's identity in this game without a lot of the "Micheal Bay" scenes of later entries. I feel like CoD 2 holds up and is one of the best, most pure games in the series.

Easily the best cod game so far. The gameplay is actually GOOD finally due to the addition of health regen. Now I can finally play this game like a run and gun shooter without having to worry that I wont be able to make it thru the rest of the game due to low health. Besides that, the graphics are better, the game feels better to play, and they seemingly finally tried to make a bit of a story (sorta). I do wish they actually put in a real story though, with real characters and real things that happen, but what is here is fine. The biggest problem with the game is that you just kinda do the same thing throughout the whole time. It gets boring fast... Still the best cod yet though, and I might actually recommend this one! :3

The campaign still holds up 15+ years later. The wide open level designs and gunplay feel good to play through, and I enjoyed the small variety of gameplay segments like driving tanks and calling airstrikes. The true standout however is the sound design, audio mixing, and music that was put into this game. Small things like the pings on M1 Grands, sounds of the reloads, and the accurate callouts from squad members really add to the experience. And the music made it incredibly epic. It's obvious they were going for the Band of Brothers/Saving Private Ryan production, but it works and it felt like I was in those kinds of stories.

My favorite CoD game in the whole series, while it has it's problems, the Russian and American campaigns feel like epic where you slowly trudge through WW2, the only boring part is the British camapaign which can feel aimless at times. A big reason why I prefer this game over later games despite them having more weapon variety to some degree like having SMGs and shotguns is that this game benefits from not having it's own fictional story and later CoD games have utterly ridiculous and stupid narratives depending on the game.

This game also benefits from not having nearly as many cutscenes that later CoD games do.

Overall an amazing experience. Unlike the modern COD this actually tells an epic story in this 8hr with no unnecessary cinematic action sequences, just how a good old WW games supposed to be from the eyes of a soldier. There were epic moments & almost all the fights were really intense & adrenaline pumped. I don't know if it's because of the graphic mod I used but the game looked phenomenal for its time definitely aged well like a fine wine. This is 1 of the very few COD games that I would recommend especially If u'r into WW games

I don't know if auto-healing was a good decision (of course it was for sales) because beside fastening the speed of the game, it's making it a little non-war experience and I liked it better in the first installment. some levels are memorable like the 400 hill and Normandy shore (which in not as good as medal of honor) but waiting for reinforcement parts get boring after so many times occurring and can't give the feeling a real solider would have at the moment counting the seconds for backup cause all you think about is, oh my god, again?
the title has many things that made COD1 a great game and many improvements in gameplay, still can't say it's better and could have better writings for characters, level designing and shooting experience. still, one of the best. Captain Price forever!

GRENADES GALORE:
What a huge disappointment this was... The game lets you play once again the same three allied countries (Russia, Britain, and the USA) before we delve into the bad, let's start with the good:
- Gameplay: Has seen significant improvement over the first one, guns feel more powerful and
responsive. At least no more solo missions and friendlies can get kills now!
- Visuals: From a game that was released in 2005, the graphics somehow don't feel outdated and in
fact at times I had to sit there and take in the scenery as planes bombed the area around me.
- Audio: much improved, sounds make sense now, the game is still as loud as ever and I love that,
makes you feel like you're in actual warfare, unlike games nowadays where all guns sound
suppressed and bombs sound like the balloon pops.
- Voice Acting: Sure you don't have cutscenes and stuff, but the interactions and awareness of AI is
pretty spectacular (when it comes to voice lines at least) for example, friendly soldiers will point out
enemy positions and flanks, which really helped me numerous times throughout the game.
They'll even shout each other names like "Wither take cover!"
Now, the bad:
- Story: once again the game has 0 cutscenes, 0 character development, I mean for god's sake it
took me 30 mins to find out each main character name that you play as... The only memorable
characters were Captain Price (just because of the later games) and Sergeant Randall. The rest
were unmemorable as fuck.
- Enemies: ok so here is my experience playing the game: Take cover, Get thrown at with 30
grenades at the same time, attempt to run away, get shot at, die, repeat. Such a tedious cycle that
sadly ruined the game for me.
- The three countries: So I will give each allied country its own rating.
Russia: 4/10, Britain 9/10, USA: 6/10
[The Russian campaign was so immemorable. The British campaign was the best hands down,
filled with different set pieces and great scenery. The USA campaign was super repetitive but D-
Day and Sergeant Randall carried it]
Overall, This game took me 10 hours to complete (cause Veteran difficulty which I don't recommend anyone to play it on) I expected way more from what I heard about this game... but Nah... This is back when COD campaigns weren't about the story and characters, it's just shooting and shooting, some people will like that sure, but not me, I want to get to know who's behind the gun. So if you want to play a game with seemingly never-ending nazis that carry around never-ending grenades that are thrown so precisely at you, then be my guest. I'm glad it's over.

The visual difference between CoD in 2003 & CoD 2 in 2005 is insane. Lots of little quality-of-life improvements and, of course, the initial appearance of recharging health (which actually fits the types of engagements in this game rather well.) Lots more multi-letter objectives with more map to explore per engagement, although the enemy's grenade spam can get a bit tiresome. The Thompson got a much-needed audio boost that makes it sound nice & punchy now. The British campaign in the desert against the Afrika Korps is by far the highlight of the game (—and the particular campaign I still remembered pretty well from my initial playthrough however-long-ago.) Overall, a fantastic improvement over the original.

Well the first CoD was excellent and the expansion pack to that - United Offensive, was even better. So how would the follow up compare?

Well it's pretty much more of the same. If you liked the original CoD then you will like this too. It's a familiar approach. Three sections of missions, Soviet, British and US. The difference is that this time they are in reverse, so you culminate with the US missions. They cover the defense of Moscow and Stalingrad, the North African campaign against Rommel and the Normandy landings. The US missions are the most frantic, difficult and chaotic. The D-Day landing is well done and capture the horror and randomness of survival through a kind of forced action scene where you are effectively on a rail.

The graphics of this game are better than the original, which is just as well because the original CoD looks a bit tired these days, There is a reasonable depth of field and good sniping can give you quite the advantage in missions. The music is pretty much just effects with some reaching of target crescendo at the end of levels. A lot of instructions are delivered by audio and can be quite helpful in directing you in battle. This does a good job of representing the chaos and noise of battle as you have to tune in to the instructions...it all adds to a good atmosphere. The weapons are the same range as before and do behave differently, from the number of shots available and reload time, to the speed you move carrying a type of weapon. The recoil and ability aim after a shot is also different for each weapon. This means that you need to react differently using different weapons. All of this adds to the gameplay. Enemies vary from being cleaver and trying to flank you if you stay in one place too long to running out of the same door you just shot 5 of their colleagues. Either they are cunning and absurdly accurate in grenade throws or they just queue up to be shot by you. The AI could do with some better balance either way.

There are other things that detract from the game; There is too much ammunition available, yes, you have to change weapon occasionally, but weapons are lying everywhere and it would be impossible to run out of ammo if you tried. This and a newly introduced regenerating health system make the game considerably easier than the original CoD; that's a disappointment, for example the timed defense missions are too short and simply not very hard. There are multiple ways to complete your missions and different houses or alleys to go down to flank enemies, but it is all too easy. The gameplay itself also lacks variety. You are pretty much an ordinary grunt on the floor the overwhelming majority of the time. In United Offensive (still the best offering thus far) you got to drive a jeep, be a gunner in a plane, have a tank battle and so much more. These things are here but in very brief limited value and the game somehow feels less than it's predecessor and certainly less than the expansion pack to the original.

Overall this iteration is too easy, the regenerating health makes it too generous and there is a lack of variety, meaning that whilst, graphics are improved the gameplay is not quite the brilliance of what went before. It is still a good game and one well worth playing, just not as good as United Offensive, which came before it. I find it astonishing that this still retails on Steam for £15, but it's probably still worth paying that for the game. You'll get 10-15 hours of good gameplay out it. when it's on sale, it's a steal.
