The original Hitman franchise was one of my favorite childhood game series, but somehow, I never played Blood Money past the Opera mission. I finally completed it today, and it was a fun ride.I’ve never really thought about this before, but Hitman is essentially a puzzle game when you think about it. You’re given a difficult task, so you need to scout the map, find a solution, and then execute it perfectly - at least if you’re aiming to achieve a Silent Assassin rank on every mission. Halfway through the game, though, I stopped caring about that and just had fun shooting and blowing people up with bombs. The game wasn’t difficult, but it could feel tedious at times, especially when you had to replay a segment because of weird AI, a bug, or something else.
Overall, it’s a solid game. There are major quality-of-life improvements and more polish compared to earlier entries in the series. However, in my mind, I expected it to feel more epic and immersive. The maps are small, and it doesn’t feel realistic, particularly because of dumb AI. Now I’m almost scared to replay my favorite, Hitman 2, which came before this one - I’m worried I won’t enjoy it as much as I did in my childhood.

There's definitely some unpolished parts (till death do us part is one of the worst missions in the series), but this is easily the best of the classic Hitman games before Absolution screwed everything up and they soft-rebooted in 2016.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Aside from the first game, which is very flawed, this feels like the weakest Hitman game for me. Compared to the previous games, this one has new additions, but they are underutilized and feel more disappointing than fun, new things to try. I'm just going to talk about various things in the game in no particular order.Compared to previous games, the maps are bigger, but they just feel empty and lifeless to me. Most rooms have nothing to interact with or guards with complex patrolling.
You can now cause "accidents" on targets, but 90% of the time, that just means pushing them off a ledge or pushing them down stairs. In a handful of instances, you can do other, more unique accidents, but they are very rare. This is a major new feature that felt disappointing.
Targets don't have enough pathing. In many cases, them completing a loop or moving on to the next locale takes too long. This means that there are very few ways you can take out a target and makes what should be a creative game feel linear and repetitive.
Similar to previous games, you cannot do many missions suit only. Every mission, your first priority is to find a guard that wanders by himself next to a box to stash his body in. Knocked out enemies don't ever wake up this time. Once you have a disguise, you basically have free reign of the entire map. It's much harder to raise suspicion of your actions. Even if they see you in an illegal area, they easily forgive you. Without suspicion and with no possibility of doing it suitless (usually), this feels like the easiest Hitman game.
This game was an evolution of the series, but the mechanics introduced were not fully realized until Absolution and World of Assassination. 2 and 3 were kind of janky and can feel dated now, but they did exactly what they set out to do. Blood Money gives the impression that it wants to be bigger, better, and bolder, but it fails to meet expectations. It's not necessarily a bad game, but it failed to innovate despite trying.

The best Hitman game I've played to date, but I've yet to play the modern trilogy. Blood Money gives you so many choices for assassinating your target that it's fun to go back and replay the missions in order to try something different. There's often something in the environment that you missed the first time through that might yield a much more clever and satisfying kill!Updated 4.5 Months Ago

Major improvements, the locales have become more interesting and complex then its predecessors in some areas. The game is introducing more elements for assassination such as options for accidents and varied techniques to assassinate the target. Things like orchestrating a series of assassinations in quick succession leave satisfying moments within the gameplay loop. At the time this would have been the pivotal step in the series direction of what is possible within the games series.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

This game gives me such great nostalgia, however there are obviously still quite a lot of issues with things like physics and random glitches. I also feel as if the level design is a bit small and there's not much variability between runs. However this game still seems to be one of the best Hitman games in the series so I will definitely be sure to check out the other games as well.Updated 7 Months Ago

I mean, there are a few distinctive elements from the time the game came out that haven't aged well but in my case those elements led me to a series of very strange and yet very funny moments that rather made this game even more enjoyable. Compared to the two more recent hitman games on my playlist, the game focuses on the atmospherics and level design of the maps more in depth and the storyline of the game tries to have a more "personal touch" for the gamers. This steered me to a style of play where I actually finished the game the way it's supposed to be done properly, AKA stealth.Updated 10.5 Months Ago

Okay I haven't played this game in a long time. So I will try to be as fair as I can in remembering what I can abou this game. I believe this was my first serious playthrough of a Hitman game. I do remeber being hooked by the story and the gameplay. The graphics were pretty good for the time too. I will say I have played way better Hitman games since this one though. I would say if you like Hitman play it. If you have never played one before give one of the newer titles a shot instead.Updated 1 Year Ago

I really liked how the game pretty much just throws you into each level with little to no guidance as to what to do and it felt like I could do each mission in a wider variety of ways compared to the last game. The music is the only thing I'd say was better in 2 however the music does still do its job very well. I especially liked how the story was told because it essentially allowed the developers to just throw you into whatever scenario they wanted with little to no story context and the game was overall a lot more enjoyable because of this. There were also some new moves you could do like the coin toss and being able to push guys off ledges. I especially liked how the game rewards you for being good at the game by getting money for upgrades and hints. As far as negatives go, I wish the game had just allowed for the option to be able to save and then come back later when you turn the game off as when I first found this out, I was a little confused and frustrated at this very odd decision as it was not like this in the previous game. A must-play for any Stealth game fan.

8.5/10With memorable missions, tight gameplay, excellent customization, and a great soundtrack, Hitman: Blood money combines everything that worked in previous entries while also greatly improving upon it's core mechanics. Running is no longer a crime!
This is a must play for fans of stealth games, and it deserves its position among other classic stealth titles like Metal Gear Solid 3, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and Thief 2.
My ranking of the series (so far):
1: Hitman: Blood Money 8.5/10
2: Hitman: Contracts 8/10
3: Hitman 2: Silent Assassin 7.5/10
4: Hitman: Codename 47 5.5/10

Designed by IO Interactive and released in 2006, it was universally praised by reviewers, although some critics of the game died in mysterious gas cooker explosions or out of character South American cliff falls. So is it worth your money or not?You play as Agent 47 a non-talking cloned Hitman who has tried to leave the secret govt assassins agency that has so far been his life (and the previous games) and now operates in an effort to survive on jobs and evade the remnants of his agency (including himself) being erased.
The gameplay is great; viewed from the third person you must complete a series of missions over 15 levels in a variety of places from carnival in New Orleans, to a Vegas hotel/casino and a South American Winery. There are minor tweaks to gameplay from the previous games in the series. You can throw weapons, use items you find as weapons, use NPCs as shields and upgrade weapons. In truth you probably won’t bother doing any of this, despite a clear tutorial on the first level and some decently thought through controls. Add to this the ‘notoriety’ system whereby witnesses to your actions provide statements and newspaper headlines after each level, gradually put together an E-Fit of you, making disguise harder in the next level. This device is to encourage the stealth approach, but really it doesn’t play much, you just have to kill any witnesses. These are some nice additions, but they don’t really make any impact on how you play the game.
Obviously the point of a Hitman game is stealth and the ability to complete your missions any number of ways. If you take your time, study guard movements and snoop around a lot, you will discover inventive and secretive ways to achieve your goal. Every level has a way too make the assassination look like an accident. I saw one video on YouTube of someone killing a target with a coin… basically making them step into traffic and being run over. In this respect, Hitman caters for varying skill levels and desires well.
There are some faults though, graphically this is a bit dated and characters appear and move a little clunky. A repeating problem is that you have to choose your weapons before the mission without knowing the lie of the land and this can mean you go into a mission with the wrong equipment, making for an arduous time. Having negotiated this, the levels can be quite easy, Some missions are highly prone to scoped rifles, for example every NPC enemy will wander to investigate a dead body and you can just snipe them. I dispatched 15 enemies in broad daylight next to a pool this way and they still kept aimlessly coming to have a look...and being shot. So the AI is pretty poor and gives the game a clumsy early open world title feel to it (think GTA3).
The sound received an award from IGN and runner up to Oblivion in the 2006 MTV game awards which is a surprise as i think the soundtrack nicely understated; if anything the music makes up one of the most irritating parts of the game. The main menu music is a too loud and jarring version of Ave Maria and it’s god awful, overly cheesy and highly irritating to be constantly met with. There aren’t often times I want to mute the menu music in a game, but this is one of them.
These complaints are small though and Blood Money is universally considered the best Hitman in the series for good reason. It’s a good length - about 20 hours, the difficulty is pitched pretty well despite the high retirement rate of 6% on Howlongtobeat.com. There are multiple amusing ways to kill people and order in which to do so and It’s genuinely fun all the way through. It is well worth your time and money. It retails on Steam for about £9 and is often on sale or Hitman bundles for considerably less or you can get in on G2A for just over £1. Yes...you read that right, £1. Now what are you waiting for...are you going to accept the mission?

Uninspired story but again Hitman: Blood Money is made for it's gameplay which is surely groundbreaking. By far the greatest Hitman game and one of the most innovative stealth games. Strategic gameplay, limitless way to approach a mission and a sadistically parodic,self-aware aura surrounding the story make Hitman: Blood Money the best Hitman game and a worthy pioneer on the stealth genre. The provocative ending is genuinely hilarious (in a good way).Updated 5 Years Ago

Hitman Blood Money (Enhanced Edition on PS4) is a solid Hitman game and considered majorly as the pinnacle of the series. While it's a good game, I find it to be pretty overrated. The tutorial level is probably the worst I have ever experienced. Not only does it not actually teach you anything, it sends the wrong message that the game is linear, and the level is just straight up finicky and boring at best.
