I didn't think it was possible, but this game is worse than Codename 47. That game is just bad because of the jank, but it has the excuse of being the first in the series. This one just feels maliciously bad like the devs wanted to piss you off. The disguise system is an abomination that completely betrays what Hitman is all about: hiding in plain sight. I would've saved hours if this game had a save system, but no, it has checkpoints that make you waste a shit ton of time. I died so many time just because you can't leave if the enemy is on high alert, and its made so much worse because of the fact you have to pick lock most of the exits. The linear feel sucks, the story sucks, and this game sucks.

Hitman: Absolution

Final Score: 5/10

Hitman: Absolution is considered by many to be the worst game in the long running Hitman franchise. Instead of big sprawling open maps you are given more linear, smaller maps where combat is most of the time almost unavoidable. Unlike the other Hitman games, Absolution sets its full focus on the story.

To properly review this game, i think you have to look at it this way: It's not an "actual" Hitman game using the formula we know and love, having big maps, clear targets and a dozen ways to accomplish objectives whilst the focus is on stealth and no casualties. Hitman: Absolution tries its best to be a third person action shooter game, whilst also laying the ground work for what would later be the great Hitman Trilogy. So to review this game you have to look at it for what it is: an action shooter game. And not a Hitman game.

Sure, it was always fun in other Hitman titles to go in guns blazing just for the fun of it, but i felt Absolution really encouraged this "John Wick"-type playstyle. It even has some cool features that would be useful for combat in the newer games, like human shields, dual wielding, or a shooting ability called "Instinct shot" which is basically what Deadeye is in Red Dead Redemption. The guns actually feel pretty good in this game. Whenever you shoot someone while undetected, the game gives you a small window in which the game is slowed, allowing for you to plan your next shot or to make sure you don't fumble another shot when you are taking out multiple enemies. I would greatly appreciate this feature in the newer Hitman games since it is quite helpful.

The game tells you that you can also make us of the usual "stealthy Hitman" approach you know and love. However there are a few things which i think makes most players not want to choose to go down this path.

1) Disguises are terrible in Absolution. When you pick up a disguise, everyone, and i mean everyone can see through it almost instantly. You have to use the so called "Instinct" to hide and walk past NPC's without detection. Players of the newer games likely know Instinct; it lets you see all NPC's and their paths and highlights interactable objects. (also something the Hitman Trilogy would benefit from). However in this game it is a resource. It can be empty and then you have practically no way of hiding yourself. You can only refill Instinct by collecting "evidence". Which are small useless files scattered about the maps that have no meaning whatsoever except for filling your Instinct.

2) In some missions i have found it to be almost impossible to sneak past enemies. Especially the hotel levels in Chicago have corridors filled with enemies that will spot you and you can't quite sneak past them.

And all of this for the story. Which is mediocre. While it does have some cool exciting moments, it lacks any sort of message or deeper meaning and only really serves a set up for 47's targets.

Let's go over the story quickly; 47's handler, Diana has gone rogue in order to protect a girl - Victoria, whom the ICA had been running tests on. 47 is sent to kill Diana and does so, only to switch sides and protect Victoria. Victoria gets kidnapped by Dexter, a big Texan running some big industry. 47 goes after them and fights against both ICA and Dexter's men, to in the end, recover Victoria and then kill the ICA guy who is after 47 (i forgot his name, further proving my point of this story being mediocre if i forget the name of a key antagonist so easily...). 47 kills all of them and turns out Diana is still alive and taking care of Victoria again, and 47 is let back into the ICA. ... What's the point of all this? None of these plots and turn are really interesting. And don't forget, this game ditched the original Himan formula for this story. Not to mention 47 is incredibly out of character in this game.

I can sadly not say anything about the Contracts mode since the servers have been shut off by now. From what i heard, it is basically the predecessor to the new Contracts mode in the Hitman Trilogy. Sadly this renders a few achievements unobtainable.

So, long story short; Hitman: Absolution is no classical Hitman game. If you enjoyed the previous or latter games, this one is not for you. If you enjoyed, perhaps GTA's or rather RDR's shootout's with the occasional, rare stealth, then you will like this. Hitman: Absolution is, though lacking in writing, a good action game and can be fun, but it is not a good Hitman game.

As a huge Hitman fan this game was a slog to get through and I hated it.
Every level is "Go from point A to point B" through some of the most linear corridor type level design.
You can't select a loadout before each level you're just stuck with what you find in the world which none of it carries over; so that cool sniper you found is gone by the next level.
Blending in is now on a stamina bar for no reason, every enemy wearing the same outfit is an enforcer which makes changing out of the suit almost pointless most levels as you'll get spotted anyway.
The story feels disjointed, it's filled with plot holes and one dimensional characters that have no real motivation or desire and are just strawmen of the most generic bad guy tropes rolled into one so you feel good about eventually knocking them down.

If this didn't have the Hitman name attached to it I'd probably have rated it higher as it's not a bad game it's just a bad Hitman game.

This game has an identity problem. I enjoyed it, but it doesn't really feel like a Hitman game. It shifts between Max Payne 2, Max Payne 3, Kayne & Lynch, a Quentin Tarantino film, and a Hitman game. The gameplay is very solid and fun. The story is entirely irrelevant and forgettable.

Hitman: Absolution certainly strays from the path created by the other games in the franchise. There is a heavier emphasis on stealth, progressing through levels, and continuing the story. That being said, the main focus on the story is truly refreshing for the series. I quite enjoyed it for what it was worth. All in all, whether you're new to the franchise or a veteran, I definitely recommend Hitman: Absolution. If you're a newcomer though, I advise you to either play the original Hitman 1-4, or look up a story preview, as this is a continuation from the end of the fourth entry in the series.

(The story itself took me 13 hours to beat)

It takes a slightly different direction towards a more story driven narrative, but it has many Hitman things. Overall, this is a fantastic game with tons of content and as much polish as possible for the date they had set, very few bugs of any kind have been encountered and the everything seems to work as it should. Hats off to the developers for making such a fantastic game.

Absolution is the weakest of the pre-reboot games:
- Level separation (esp. shaving Lenny).
- Disguises reset between parts of the level for no reason.
- AI instantly knows where you are if you shoot someone, even in thick fog.
- Too many missions have nothing to do with assassinations.
- Disguise system is stupid with people suspecting you for no reason even if the disguise comes with a mask or full-face helmet.
- Pointless collectibles.

It's still not too terrible, and most of the levels look pretty nice and detailed, and while some of them kinda suck, some put you in really cool situations. But I still feel like older Hitman games had more variety in terms of different locations.

The instinct is an interesting addition, although my point about being suspected when not really suspicious still stands.

Gráficos: 7.5
História: 6.5
Jogabilidade: 8
Áudio: 9
Dificuldade: 8.5

Prós:
+ Trilha sonora é um ponto fortissimo pro clima do jogo
+ Variedade de cenários
+ História cinematográfica
+ Personagens memoráveis
+ Formas de assassinar divertidas
+ Dublagem muito boa
+ Gráficos belos na maior parte do tempo

Contra:

Good lord, this is NOTHING like any Hitman games I've played. The levels are so SUFFOCATINGLY LINEAR that I was extremely underwhelmed with how the game chooses your checkpoints for you instead of doing it yourself. The whole design of this game is just very 10 steps back and hardly does anything to actually improve the series. It's as if a generic modern gaming studio made a "Hitman" game and didn't understand why those games were so good in the first place. There are some spots where there is a sandbox type of area to assassinate in, but even with those the kills and opportunities are so obviously scripted that it always seemed like you were just doing what the developer wanted you to do instead of figuring out how to take them out for yourself.

That's my main issue with this game, the lack of any real freedom. There are so many linear levels, some of which you don't even perform a hit in and are just sneaking around. They removed your ability to make your own saves so you're at the mercy of where the devs want you to have a checkpoint. There are also disguises like in previous games, but they are almost virtually useless when the enemies can always spot you if you don't have any of the dumb yellow meter magic gauge to hide yourself. The story is nothing to write home about either, it feels extremely cliche and way too over the top to be taken seriously and maybe that's the point. I mean they have skin-tight gun-toting nuns and villains who curse every other word so I guess that's probably the case? The music is also extremely generic and movie-like so it's very forgettable as a result.

I gave this game a chance, but I just couldn't get past the numerous issues I had with it. The only thing I can say I liked was the point-shooting mechanic as it made you feel like a professional killer but that's about it. It just limits your abilities to be creative way too much and it never really felt like a hitman game due to the huge amount of pure stealth missions that felt like MGS than anything involving HItman. Even if they called this game "Bald Man in Suit on the Run" it still would have the same issues.

I don't really play stealth games, this is my third hitman game played(I played Blood Money and Contracts a long time ago and quit on the first mission) and I prefer this type of game over those mostly because it's very linear and more focused on gunplay and storytelling.

pros - cinematics, soundtrack, atmosphere, environmental storytelling, optimization, gunplay, some levels were just so fun to play(cornfield, the early police levels).

cons - story, characters, repetitive, annoying game mechanics.

It's been a long time since I played a Hitman game. The last one was Blood Money (which is also the previous) is an amazing game, and Absolution was more than enough to scratch the itch hat I had.

Storywise. It's way more "cinematographic" than the previous games, more story driven, even though the story itself isn't memorable, but the characters are. It follows the main theme, i.e., you are still 47 but this time you aren't doing contracts but trying to save someone.

Gameplay. Very fluid, new interesting mechanics, tons of missions and replayability. The only thing that I missed was the map (it helped a lot on Blood Money, without it, way more difficult) and weapons upgrade. Besides that, it's a very fun game even though sometimes is infuriating but rewarding in the final.

Graphics. Nothing much to see here, besides that Absolution is still very pleasing to look at after +10 years since its release date.

Soundwise. At it comes to soundtracks, I can't remember anything great besides one or two musics. But in this section, most credits go to voice actors which were amazing from start to finish.

So, is worth playing Hitman: Absolution? Yes, especially if you like action/stealth games.

PROS:
Better gameplay than the first 4 games, movements, dragging bodies etc

CONS:
Story made no gosh darn sense

A significant downgrade when compared to Hitman: Blood Money, but a decent enough stealth game in it's own right. It's definitely not the worst game in the series.

My ranking of the series (so far):

1: Hitman: Blood Money 8.5/10

2: Hitman: Contracts 8/10

3: Hitman 2: Silent Assassin 7.5/10

This is a decent game with fun stealth mechanics. It is marred by a bad disguise system and sometimes gameplay that just feels... off. I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s a good time to play through, with a mostly good but sometimes weird story and good stealth gameplay. Solid, but could’ve been improved in many ways. I’ve heard that other entries in the series are better, but this is the only one I’ve played. 7/10 (Good).
