The warm up is a little longer than expected, but once all of the main combat concepts are introduced, it scratches that same crazy combat itch as the 2016 Doom. It's a shame Bethesda didn't use Mick Gordon as the composer again. There's not much variety to the soundtrack in Eternal. The combat loop is a little more complicated than 2016, most of the time it's fun to juggle health, armor, and ammo, but sometimes it feels awkward.

Good game I guess but in the humble eye of someone who's not really into modern fast FPS, not half as good as Doom 2016. This one was only pure action, pure destruction... pure fun. Eternal is very different. It wants the player to use his brain (quickly), think about space (even faster), resources (all the time)... etc. The level design is more intricated, involving backtracking, exploration, numerous platforming segments ; the game put system over system over system to a point it needs a lot of tutorial arenas, and as if all of this wasn't enough, it even tries to tell a story... why not, but why? Doom 2016 found an almost unique formula, so why 'normalizing' ('triple-A-ing') it? I can admit that, in a way, Eternal feels closer to the nineties Doom I loved so much back then, but it only got me bored. Maybe I'm aging, or maybe I'm just not interested enough in this type of gameplay anymore to enjoy it beyond the dumb fun that Doom 2016 was.

It has a lot of elements that I don't like, yet it brute forces the fun. Even the time spent doing the glory kills has the purpose of giving you a second to plan your next move. If there's one thing I truly dislike, it's the music. I'm fine with it in isolation but not how it's used in gameplay.

TOP FUN THINGS TO DO:
⭐️ Slaying demons with your bare hands!
⭐️ Going on an absolute rampage!
⭐️ Rocking out to death metal!

THE UNIQUES:
💎 Good way to vent without causing real harm to people.
💎 Death metal in a video game!?
💎 Old school gaming.

PLAYER GAMING REQUIREMENTS:
💼 FPS.
💼 Violent.
💼 Action.

PROS:
+ Music is demonic (Meaning good)
+ A good way to blow off pent up anger.
+ Old school vibes!
+ Various of weapons and attachments.
+ Easy map layout to find those collectables.
+ Challenging, fast paced gameplay.

CONS:
- Some platforming areas can be frustrating.

VERDICT:
Let me start off by saying that DOOM Eternal may look like a fast paced game but if you want to take it slow, you can in certain areas, watching it from a viewers perspective can be off putting. The game is meant to be challenging and hectic but putting the game on easy will make a hell of a difference, PLEASE don't be put off by someone else's run-through.

I didn't think this one would've been as good as the previous DOOM but I felt more in control when it came to the battle scenes and the gameplay is much smoother, most things are similar but honestly, they didn't need to change much, they've kept the same type of music which was a clear and obvious decision and the story was pretty good for the type of game it is.

If there's one thing I could complain about it would be the platforming, certain parts felt frustrating where It shouldn't have been, with that pushed aside, I can't find any faults with this game. It's a must play game for anyone who likes a good action pact, blood thirst, demonic game

Total Score = 90/100.

GAMEPLAY:
The sequel to Doom (2016), and the seventh game in the Doom series. Set some time after the events of the 2016 game, the story follows the Doom Slayer once again, on a mission to end Hell's consumption of Earth and foil the alien Maykrs' plans to exterminate humanity.

Along with the single-player campaign, a multiplayer mode, Battlemode, was introduced. In this mode, players can either play as the Doom Slayer or as a demon, and fight until either the Doom Slayer defeats the demons, or vice versa. The Ancient Gods, a two-part standalone campaign DLC set after the events of the main game.

Still boring but with parkour.

Got lost, dumb game.

Man I don't even wanna touch it, the killing is...okay, not particularly fun but it's fine, but there is no story and there is no intrigue and the gameplay is only okay and it has no character and when they start demanding I parkour around AND start backtracking to find my way around, no way! I got this far over a couple of months mostly out of the hype and a personal recommendation from someone I know, it's not a pleasant experience for me, I would not recommend. Mostly really fun, but some elements feel underbaked/oddly balanced.
For example, a shield enemy that's invulnerable except for in specific counter attacks. Could work well, but handled poorly by giving them too much health and making them too aggressive in group combat. Ends up feeling more annoying than anything.
The extra lives are a fun feature, although it also meant i never got a game over until the DLC. I only mention to say that the enemies weren't too difficult and i just wasn't good enough. It just wasn't that fun in cases like these. The death animations aren't nearly as fun as in the 2016 game...

The story is throwaway and leans way too much into doomguy being a badass. The best parts of 2016's doomguy was that the game never said it directly. It was all in the contrast and his actions. This game can't stop telling you how badass you are and it ironically gets in the way of the power fantasy. The peak of this was giving him a voice in one cutscene, and all he says is "rip and tear" repeatedly.
But this is also a Doom game. The story isn't why you're here.

The highs are higher but the lows are much lower. Not sure which one I prefer overall.

In many ways better than Doom 2016, and in a few ways worse. It has much more varied level designs and visuals, a tighter focus on ammo management, more tools to play around with, and is overall more memorable. Once you have your full loadout its easy to enter a zen state where your slaying demons and constantly juggling ammo counts, health and armor, and the various types of enemies. The soundtrack is good as always aswell.

However, there are no new weapons (which isn't that big of a deal truth be told, but one would've been nice considering how useless the base shotgun is), few new enemies (one in particular grinds the games pace to a halt every time you encounter it) and a far, far dumber plot. Doom 2016 has a simple plot it takes semi-seriously that I didn't care for but is easy to ignore. Doom External's plot has much more going on but its just so boring and the game both treats it as more important and yet still totally skipable.

Overall Doom Eternal is a good follow-up to 2016, and I hope the Dark Ages is an even better one by being another mechanical and visual upgrade while dropping any pretense of plot.

On paper this version of Doom is better in nearly every aspect than previous title by I still prefer the Doom from 2016. Doom Eternal its sometimes just to much. And i don't mean too much action. For example i'm not a fan of a platforming sections and shifting balance from a demon shooting game to "i need to get more ammo because im out of it" attitude. Wish the game got more focus on fighting and dogding bullets than looking for resources. Still fun to play but not as much as precursor.

Yeah, the story isn't the best, but damn man the gameplay is just on another level. I replayed through the campaign and dlc 3 times on the hardest difficulty and then started to use mods. It is just straight up fun to me and enjoyed the step up when it came to using your weapons. In the previous game (Doom 2016) you could easily beat the game while using the same 2 weapons, this game on the other hand felt way more engaging when it comes to the combat.

It's been a while since I played an Action FPS game before, so playing DOOM Eternal felt refreshing.
Being my first Doom game, DOOM Eternal was a complicated but interesting experience.
While the story is trying to take itself seriously by emphasizing on cutscenes, lore and dialogue more than I expected, it really doesn't work because the delivery feels very cartoony and just goofy, but at least it's not an important part of the game anyway.
The gameplay is where DOOM Eternal truly shines; it's extremely smooth, running at 60 fps even on consoles, it's fast-paced and very diverse, from the wide variety of weapons to the resource management. It gets a bit frustrating at times because of some gimmicks and enemy types, but once you understand how everything works, it plays like a dream and it's undoubtedly one of the highlights of the game.
Another highlight of the game is the music; it feels like it's part of the gameplay, and it's awesome!
Also, the graphics and the audio design are amazing too.
Despite being a solid FPS game though, DOOM Eternal features platforming elements, however, they're not executed well; there's just too much unnecessary platforming.

Pros:
+ Exciting, fluid & challenging gameplay
+ Fantastic music
+ Beautiful visuals

Cons:
- Very weak narrative
- Frustrating gimmicks
- Excessive amount of platforming

Narrative: 1/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Content: ?/10
Music: 9/10
Graphics/Audio: 9/10

Final Rating: 8.5/10
- Really Great -
DOOM Eternal might look like a typical FPS game but the incredibly fast flow of the combat and the resource management system make it a one-of-a-kind FPS experience.

Do I recommend it?:
Yes, unless you don't enjoy playing FPS games.

Similar to DOOM (2016) but every mechanic has been greatly refined. This game induces stress, you will constantly be low on ammo and health, with the game screaming at you to get them back up. You are given very little ammo, health and armour but to balance this you are given multiple ways to gain them back and its up to the player to make the decision while gunning through a horde of the undead. Do you set something on fire and gain armour? has the cooldown reset on your grenades? can I stagger anything for a glory kill? which weapon can easily kill this enemy chasing me? All these questions need to me made in a split second and a mistake can be costly (especially at higher difficulties).

Every weapon and gun has a purpose either to gain some kind of resource or to exploit a weakness for a particular enemy. You will be cycling through your weapons and their mods to effectively kill enemies, and no longer can you get the super shotgun and then brute force your way through the game. The artstyle is more "cartoony" when compared to the previous games but the glory kills are just as epic. This is probably my favourite FPS I've played and after completing it twice on gamepass I picked up on sale and come back and replay a few levels from time to time.

This game is like an 8.5 for me.

Its greatest strength is that everything has its place in your arsenal to where things feel useful but not necessarily a crutch. I played on Nightmare difficulty which required constantly switching your weapons for the situation and being alert a lot of the time. I died A TON and restarted the game from the beginning three separate times (reflected in my play time).

There's something about the gameplay loop that lights up everything in my brain as I play. When you're doing well you can immediately tell with how fast things go down and your health pool remaining high. I think most of the levels and environments are built up to be pretty fair and suit a variety of playstyles. With that being said there are some demons who I found to be tiresome to deal with throughout the game and that's because they often got in the way more than anything. Whiplashes in particular were frustrating.

Optimization wise this game ran great, it looks amazing, and the sound effects are terrific. The music is a step down from 2016 but serviceable. I don't know if I would have liked this game as much if I played it on controller though.

Some things that pissed me off however were some glitches. I had to replay a level because you can fast travel in the end sequence and soft lock the game. Another required me replaying a level to kill a single fodder demon because progress for beating all encounters was not done. And lastly I unlocked all weapon attachments, but because I replayed some of the missions with cheats enabled (that I unlocked) to get missed items, it won't properly unlock. All can be found online.

Lastly the final boss... It reminded me of Demon of Hatred in Sekiro where the fight feels NOTHING like everything that came before the game. For this boss you are better off ignoring demons to focus on the boss and use big weapons to deal with the bigger demons that spawn in. It's also RNG what demons you get. And the second phase music kind of sucked. This game would have been a 9/10 for me but I didn't enjoy the encounter at all. Rewarding to beat, but a total pain in the ass.

It is weird. I don't know how I feel about this game. There is such a high skill ceiling as well as floor but once you are on the floor the game is great and is a masterwork of progression, level design, enemy design, responsiveness, optimization. This is a game that you can poor your life into and many people have. I don't know if I will play the DLC but having simply beaten the game and gotten all the collectables was enough for me. This game also did what every good sequel should do. Make you never want to play the previous game again. My biggest problem with this game is honestly its art direction. DOOM 2016 looked great and though this game is definetly higher fidelity it is too arcady. I kind of wish they would let you toggle certain things. Like no colored ammo or having bodies attatched to weapons. I understand that it is part of the look it is going for but at times it feels a bit tacky. But when the game is going you must rip and tear until it is done. And you will love it if you can get to the level of skill required to love it. That is what your opinion of this game will be depicted by for a large number of people. Were you able to reach the skill floor. If not then it is gonna be very hard for you to like this game. If you were however this game is a masterwork.

Probably the best FPS ever, and one of the most unique ever made, a combat loop so addicting and unique I can replay again and again and not get bored, especially since getting better means you have more fun, especially on nightmare and ultra nightmare. It almost feels like some kind of "combat puzzle" where you need to know what key to press and when, and make sure to know about the demon hierarchy, who to take out first, shooting weakspots, using grenades, the flame belch for armor and using the now rechargable chainsaw to get health back. Amazing graphics, more arcadey and a bit less atmospheric than Doom 2016, but it still has very atmospheric moments, like Urdak.

I liked this game a lot more on my second time than on my first. The 1440p/60fps version on Series S looks great and plays great - the aim assist is pretty good but also the game has a lots of buttons and things to do, something that felt better on a controller than on a mouse. But I admit I was a bit overwhelmed when this was released, a game a lot more tense and complex than Doom 2016, which I thought it was a masterpiece. Now I think Eternal is a better game, a game that benefits of playing again knowing better all the insane and frenetic rules. One of the best FPS of the past decade.
