A good addition to the base game with one of the best characters in the Witcher universe. Definitely did not expect to meet the devil within the first hour of the base game. While short, it still has great characters and an excellent story.Updated 2 Months Ago

10/10 (same review as of witcher 3)I can't even think of any words that would describe this game other than masterpiece.
The story is top notch, combat is top notch, characters, main storyline, side quests, everything about this game is done to perfection.
If I had to complain, maybe the few bugs, but were only funny small bugs and this game seems bug free when compared to skyrim.
What CD PROJEKT RED pulled off is unbelievable. I never felt bored about the world, the side quests were all interesting, and what saddens me is that I will never be able to experience the feeling of my first time playing this game... and I haven't even played the other DLC which I had heard were also equally amazing. When I play the DLC I will make an edit to this post.
10/10 once again, I wish I could travel back in time to play this game like it was my first time again. This game was most def my best game of the decade for me. I just hope that maybe the next Witcher game will fix the fall damage.
Edit 1: Just finished Heart of Stone, Godlike expansion with such amazing story. IDK if I am even ready to play Blood and Wine.

I probably didn't like Hearts of Stone as much as most people did, that said this is still an incredible DLC.I just couldn't care less about the wedding party and Shani, and I found it annoying that the Redanian guards in Oxenfurt still shouted "Long Live Radovid" even if he was murdered. Other than that, amazing story, good characters, and runes are a great addition to gameplay.

Hearts of stone tells an interesting story of Geralt falling into debt of a very dangerous man named Gaunter O'Dimm, or Master Mirror, the Man of Glass. He curses Geralt with a brand on his face that can only be removed by Geralt fulfilling three wishes for one Olgierd Von Everec. Everec is a despicable man, who gives Geralt three impossible tasks: Show his brother the time of his life, but his brother is dead, bring him someone else's house, and give him the very rose that Olgierd had given his wife years ago, though she is dead and the rose is long since decomposed. It is a well told tale that continues the wonderful storytelling and world of the Witcher 3, while also bringing a couple new things to the table. First, there is a new rune crafting mechanic that allows you to further enhance your weapons more than in the main game, and this was the expansion that brought a new interface to the signs and secondary items. I personally prefer the old sign selection menu, but it's not really much of a downgrade, just an aesthetic preference.
Hearts of stone's strength, just like the main game, is in its storytelling and character writing. Gaunter O'Dimm in particular is a fascinating character that really commands some presence, despite his normal appearance. The expansion also brings back one of Geralt's old love interests, Shani, who is charming and also quite well written. It's more high quality writing that we've all come to expect from the Witcher series and I especially loved the first half of the expansion.
I found however, that the expansion's latter half isn't nearly as intriguing as its first. The writing kind of drops off after a bit, before coming back strong in the last minutes. The latter half of the expansion has a few boss fights that are some of the most frustrating and poorly designed fights in the series. Strong enemies are no stranger in Witcher 3 on the highest and second highest difficulties, but it's the mechanics of these fights that feel untested and cruel. One has you fighting against an enemy that restores his own health with each hit, but one third of the way through the fight, in case you were successfully dodging everything to prevent him from healing, he starts summoning the souls of the dead to attack and replenish his health. Another has you fighting a wraith that almost never lets up on the attack, but expects you to find time to draw your crossbow every few seconds to prevent them from fully healing. And another teleports to your position so quickly and has such powerful blows that if you don't parry the first hit, you cannot recover. The setting of these fights is intriguing but ultimately they feel like they could have used a bit more play testing to lengthen the windows of opportunity to be successful.
Ultimately, the expansion is quite good, but the last two hours had 3 BS fights that really left a sour taste when all was said and done. And the story, although good, has no direct connection to main game events or characters. It definitely feels like a side story rather than something supplemental that elevates the main quest. I still had a good time, don't get me wrong. And the length was perfectly appropriate for the amount of extra story we got. But I admit that at the end it felt like something small needed to be added to really round out the DLC as a whole.

Has multiple of the best quests in the game, and doesn’t overstay its welcome in the least. Hearts of Stone is an excellent DLC that adds on a new quest line that can either be played alongside the main game or afterwards as an bridge between Wild Hunt and Blood & Wine. The DLC is short but has a great story and introduces some memorable new characters including the most interesting, enigmatic and potentially powerful villains of the The Witcher world so far. I highly recommend you play this DLC if you liked the main game.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Honestly, better than the main game. The storyline that branches out is heart wrenching and makes you feel bad for a villain like character. The Witcher 3 is known for immersion and the main story is great but as for myself I felt much more immersed in this DLC. It's always a treat to dive a bit more into Geralt of Rivia's world. This time he is asked to help O'Dimm complete the wishes for Olgierd von Everec which results in hilarious scenes. I'm not going to write a lengthy review, because this DLC is actually a continuation of The Witcher 3 (check out my full review there) and what I liked and disliked is actually the same for this one. One thing I would like to remark is that I'm happy that CD Projekt Red has actually mixed things up for this game. It's not really more of the same because the way Geralt has to solve puzzles and event is completely different.
I'm happy there's another love interest after the events of the Witcher 3 by the way. I'm now curious to play the final DLC of this game, but I might wait a little longer to delay the inevitable end a bit more.

This is well worth purchase dlc. It is as long as some 40 quid games are and still tells a compelling story of which the drives you to figure at the mystery surrouding the two main characters of this dlc piece. rnrnI want to say that i consider this charcter piece within the Witcher 3 to be just as compelling as the bloody barons character piece as we slowly interact with olgreid and start to understand who he is and what has happened in his life to cause his "downfall"Updated 3 Years Ago

Olgierd von Everec is a sociopath. But then again, until I’ve reached this expansion, I’ve killed and slaughtered many more man, animals, and monsters. So, who am I to judge…He’s likable, yet eerie unnerving. He sends Gerald on impossible quests. They involve killing a frog (the most f*** difficult monster in the entire game), a heist, a wedding, and a trip into the memories of his past. The quests reveal his story and tell a fantastic tale about love, greed, and emptiness.
Gaunter O'Dimm is the second new character Gerald meets. Master Mirror. In the beginning unassuming yet growing more mysterious and intriguing over time. However, he is never a character with his own story. He always feels like an uninspired attachment designed to fit Olgierds quest line.
On the other hand, I liked Shani. I liked her a lot. Gerald also liked her - like he liked Keira, Triss, and Yennefer.
Hearts of Stone is a well-crafted add-on. A huge side mission that entertains yet doesn’t add any lore to the Witcher mythology.

There was not a single moment throughout Hearts of Stone that I did not find to be purely brilliant. The story is incredibly well paced with each new step revealing new details that all tie together in the end for a satisfying conclusion. Incredibly well realized characters bring the experience to life with the impressive writing and acting that the main game is known for, but dare I say it's better here. (And certainly better than the Netflix series). The story is best experienced blind, so I will leave it at that.In terms of gameplay there are some features added to spice up combat (though I did not experience this because it was a side quest I did not have the funds to complete), as well as a new spider enemy type. Though as the monster slayer you are you do spend more time doing everything but fighting. This is not a complaint. The amount of gameplay variety that exists without actually adding new features is genuinely impressive. Every quest has you doing something new that never feels like anything you've already done. Each major story beat is tonally unique, yet somehow it all blends together into a seamless story-telling and gameplay experience. There are also plenty of new side quests, though I have yet to play them because I was so enthralled by the main storyline.
The new music is of course amazing, as to be expected.
All in all a phenomenal experience that I would whole-heartedly encourage paying extra for (though the whole package goes on rediculous sales all the time)
Spoilery thoughts below
.
.
O'Dimm is such a good character and villain. Introduced from the outset of the campaign, the man of mirrors is an object of mystery. Each time he reappears the player's curiosity is peaked once again. He seems almost friendly, despite the mystery, but at the end of the journey we know that he is actually a soul hungry demon who loves to genie the fuck out of people. He's powerful, clever, evil as shit, and just a damn good character.

The Hearts of Stone DLC was a blast! It was much better than the main story in every way possible. The story starts out with a contract for Olgierd von Everec in which Geralt has to kill a toad monster in the sewers. Accompanied by his friend Shani, he kills the toad and later a few O'fiery men from the east capture him. Apparently the toad he killed was an O'fiery prince. Taken prisoner, a strange man with a name of Gaunter O'Dimm offer Geralt's escape. Geralt accepts this offer but in return has to help O'Dimm. Later Gaunter tells him that he has to full fill 3 wishes of Olgierd because he has him bound by a pact.
Geralt visits Olgierd again and tells Geralt his 2 wishes.
The Marriage:
Geralt has to show Olgierd's brother, Vlodimir the time of his life. But he is dead now. So Geralt and Shani has to revive his ghost. Now, Vlodimir possess Geralt's body and then Shani and Vlodimir have to take part in a marriage ceremony. Geralt takes part in several activities and even does a detective work. This was one the best parts of the dlc as it portrayed the fun part of Geralt which is never seen in the main game. This was a blast and even the activities were nice to do. Once Vlodimir woos Shani, its already midnight and Vlodimir has to leave Geralt's body. Geralt then proceeds to have sex with Shani.
The Borsodi House:
Olgierd's second wish was to retrieve Maximilian Borsodi's house. Apparently the house is a box containing the will of Maximilian Borsodi. A certain strange man offers help to steal the house from the auction house. A heist is set up where we have to recruit two more people and then the heist takes place. But as expected, the heist does not go according to plan. In end we realize that the stranger was Ewald Borsodi, the Borsodi's brother.
Olgierd's Last Wish:
His last wish was to retrieve the violet rose his wife, Iris von Everec gave Olgierd. Geralt travels to the von Everec estate and finds that his wife is long dead. He then buries her but her ghost is restless. It sucks us into painting and Geralt has to fix each of her memories to proceed. Once that is done, Geralt faces Iris's worst fear, her husband. This was also a blast as Geralt had to do a lot of detective work and to see Olgierd and Iris's life unfold was amazing. Iris's ghost gives us the rose, the last thing that bound her to this world.
Gaunter O'Dimm:
Geralt meets up with the Master of Mirrors and together plan to defeat Olgierd. We learn in between that Gaunter is evil in human form who has a lust for human souls. Now we have to beat Master Mirror in his own game to save Olgierd and ourself. In a strange world we have to find where Gaunter is hiding and finally get rid of him.
In the end, Olgierd thanks us for saving him and gives Geralt his priced sword. This dlc was amazing and can't wait to play the next one!

A recurring theme in the witcher universe is choosing between two evils. This expansion presents two evil men and has you literally choose between them. Olgierd is ridiculously reprehensible; kills and tortures innocents, steals, mocks and et cetera. But by the end of the DLC you learn that most of his behavior is a result of his stone heart. Given to him by some sort of demon. The canonical choice by Geralt i imagine would be to let Olgierd die and ask nothing of the man of mirrors. Witchers are very superstitious about magic. Not to mention dark magic. I saved Olgierd and vanquished the demi-god.It's nice to see a bit more effort went into the bosses of this questline. Although none are all that mechanically satisfying. The toad is just inconvenient and the caretaker is easy to cheese.
