Oooh I'm first!

With it being the 20th anniversary, and it being free on Steam a few days ago, I will pick Half Life 2

For anyone who wants to join in but is indecisive about games to nominate, I have made a collection of previous games nominated in the past that have not won. Plenty to choose from.

Oof this month was rough near the end in terms of how bad the games were. Two 1/10 games not only in the same month but in the same week is pretty unheard of from me.

Oct 4 - The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (Switch) - 10/10
Oct 6 - Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (PS4) - 9/10
Oct 6 - Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - Not a Hero (PS4) - 6/10
Oct 7 - Don't Pee (PC) - 6/10
Oct 7 - Mega Coin Squad (PC) - 6/10
Oct 8 - Starship Damrey (3DS) - 7/10
Oct 15 - Link-a-Pix Color (3DS) - 4/10
Oct 19 - Pic-a-Pix Color (3DS) - 4/10
Oct 21 - Art Style: ZENGAGE (DS) - 6/10
Oct 27 - Creepy Tale 2 (Switch) - 6/10
Oct 27 - Death's Door (Switch) - 8/10
Oct 28 - Connection ReHaunted (Switch) - 1/10
Oct 29 - Body of Evidence (Switch) - 4/10
Oct 31 - Dream Alone (Switch) - 1/10

Best Game: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Worst Game: Dream Alone

Kind of funny I started with the best game of the month and ended with the worst.

Astro Bot! I already beat it like two months ago, but I'd like to go back to it for the new speedrun levels.

I finished Resident Evil 7 on VR last night. I think it's a great game, although it kind of lost what made it scary halfway through for me. Still a fun time though.

I did also enjoy my time in VR, I felt very immersed. However, I had some issues with it. The image quality was iffy. Very pixelated in some areas, especially on characters in a lit room. The dinner scene at the beginning is a great example. Then there's also issues with the subtitles. Sometimes the subtitles are often too long to fit in view. Sometimes when an object is right in front of you, the subtitles will be behind the object. It's very unreadable at times and I doubt they actually tested this for proper accessibility. Quite unfortunate to see.

As much as those issues bothered me, I still quite enjoyed my time with the game and would give it a 9/10. I will probably play it again sometime, but without the VR.

I also played the Not a Hero DLC. It's fine. Most of my complaints stem from the multiple instances of near endless enemies spawning, a section where you have to run past nigh-invincible enemies in narrow hallways, and a story that adds basically nothing.

I do think the DLC does an interesting Metroidvania-ish set up that was pretty fun at times, and I mean it's more RE7 so that's not bad. The DLC is a 6/10 for me as far as DLCs go.

I finished Echoes of Wisdom so I'll start up Resident Evil later today. I've never played a mainline RE game. The only RE game I've played is Resident Evil Mercenaries on the 3DS and that game was rough. So I'm looking forward to playing a hopefully good game.

I do have Death's Door. I'll probably get to it after I play a few other spooky games for October. It looks cool.

Inside... I've never played but I do remember watching the Game Grumps play it years ago, and while I still might play it eventually, I don't feel a rush to get it anytime soon.

I've been debating about what to pick. Do I want to pick the creepy and mysterious card game Inscryption? Or the amazing classic-style survival horror game Signalis?

In the end, I think I'm actually going to go with Resident Evil 7.

Concord is dying already and it's barely been a month.

https://blog.playstation.com/2024/09/03/an-important-update-on-concord/

It's going offline on September 6, so you have three days to "enjoy" Concord. They're offering refunds for anyone who bought it. The store page is already down.

I've only done three challenges in August... however, these are the last three of the main challenge I have to do.

I still want to do the bonus challenges, but I am technically done with the 2024 challenge.

Here's my collection: https://www.howlongtobeat.com/user/R2D21999/lists/29881/R2D21999-2024-Challenge

09-1. A remake or remaster of a game - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019) - This is a remake of the Game Boy version.

10. A game with 6+ endings - Vampire Savior: The Lord if Vampire - This is also known outside of Japan as Darkstalkers 3. And if you know anything about fighting games, is that they have multiple characters, and sometimes each one of those characters has their own storyline to go through with their own endings. Especially so with something like Darkstalkers. I think there's 10 characters? So at least 10 endings.

44-2. A game that you have beaten before and are replaying - Lego DC Super-Villains - I beat this in 2019, before joining the site. I beat it again now.

Absolutely not. Having played both the OG and the remake, I absolutely hated the inventory management in those GB games. My biggest complaint of those games was having to pause and switch items every single second I ran into a different kind of rock. That's not difficulty, that's just tedium. The remake fixes that and I absolutely love it for just that reason alone.

Also, if we're really comparing difficulty I would go with the remake. Unlike the GB versions, they made the fish boss function like an actual boss. I also struggled way more with the Armos mini boss in the remake for some reason.

Six challenges finished in July. Not only that, I have only three left plus the bonus challenge. I might actually finish this year!

Here's my collection: https://www.howlongtobeat.com/user/R2D21999/lists/29881/R2D21999-2024-Challenge

11. A collection of games - Bioshock: The Collection - It's Bioshock... the Collection... it's in the name.

14-2. A game whose title contains the name of a color - Red Earth - It's... RED Earth... it's in the name.

31. A cornerstone to gaming culture - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Game Boy version) - It's Zel... da... it's in the nam- ok sorry that joke's old. But seriously I think Link's Awakening is as much a cornerstone as something like A Link to the Past.

33-2. A spin-off game - Metroid Prime Hunters - Metroid Prime is arguably a spin-off series... so Metroid Prime Hunters is a spin-off of that.

36. A game that heavily features either fire or ice - Atomic Punk 2 - This is literally a bomberman game under a different name. Imo the fire upgrade is an extremely important upgrade in the Bomberman games since it expands the explosion range. Also you light the fuses with fire, so it *is* kind of important.

45. A game that is on someone else’s HLTB 2024 Gaming Challenge List - Folder Dungeon - Thank you FrozenRoy for having it as your game you got for free.

Not sure if we're counting only the amount of written reviews or if including non-written ones as well, but I'll pick Boss Slayer. It's a flash game, even in the realm of flash games it's generally unknown. It's a great and short shmup that I loved playing.
