INTRO
welcome to this guy's media diary!! im el or eruukat and i love making little lists and tracking things, so i thought id make a blog! i get overwhelmed easily so im hoping this gives me an outlet to feel more on top of what im up to, what my backlog looks like, and what im interested in trying. i like final fantasy a lot, as well as other story based games, like jrpgs, rpgs, visual novels, and indies. when im ready to start getting out of my comfort zone, im thinking of getting into more gameplay focused games as well, since i never wound up playing games like minecraft or stardew valley. i get into new media really slowly, with some exceptions where i binge (by el standards that is), so updates will likely be really sporadic!! esp with college starting up again. i write very casually, so while i hope to express myself coherently and eloquently, i dont expect my posts to come off as comprehensive reviews.

that all being said, let's get into some games!!

CURRENTLY PLAYING

final fantasy vii rebirth - ps5
progress: 43hr
comments: currently my highest priority! ive been on a break for the past couple of months bc i got busy and then got really emotional about aeriths inevitable fate (no spoilers please!! ive played the ps1 original but dont know what happens in rebirth). im also writing a fic alongside playing, so im hoping to continue that too! i have a creek scene and then i plan on writing a scene for the gold saucer date once i get there.

terraria - pc
progress: 113hr
comments: has been on pause for like a year now but i dont want to move it to my backlog.. i got stuck at the pumpkin moon and have several building projects i want to get back to or start, but i just havent felt like jumping back in.

uta no prince-sama music - emulated
progress: 2hr
comments: started it one night a few months ago and then didnt really feel like coming back to it. the gameplay's not bad, i just havent felt like playing a rhythm game

───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────

BACKLOG
backlog list with no commentary here
backlog with commentary below. warning for wall of text, im a yapper at heart. i love to talk

.hack//infection - ps2
progress: n/a
comments: bought this on a whim so i dont rly know what to expect from this title or when ill be in the mood for it. mostly smth to try for the sake of smth fresh

baldur's gate 3
progress: 36hr
comments: paused in dec 2023. i enjoyed what i played, but i unexpectedly ended up adopting a kitten irl, so i didnt have much time for gaming for a few months and i wound up not continuing bg3. i dont feel super compelled to pick it back up even though i know i want to? the characters and combat are fun, and i loved roleplaying as my character moradin, but smth isnt clicking for me now that its been a few months

dark cloud 2 - ps2
progress: n/a
comments: this title intimidates me. i think ill enjoy the town building and other minigames like fishing(?), but theres so much to do that i get scared to dive in

dragon age: origins - steam
progress: n/a
comments: i cant decide for the life of me if im actually interested in dragon age. i enjoy bioware games, and the tumblr community promises great things from the trilogy, but i dont feel particularly drawn to the cast or setting. i played 8hrs of dao back in high school and was left with very little impressions of it, so that doesnt help matters. dao and inquisitions are mostly on my backlog to remind me i have them if i feel like it, but i dont think ill be heartbroken if i never get to them. as an aside, i tried modding dao's character creator and it crashes the entire game now <3 ALSO the skin textures werent included in the presets mod i got so they might be lost forever on the deleted bioware forums. fml

final fantasy v - ps vita
progress: 2hr
comments: made the mistake of getting the ps1 port on the vita instead of, idk, anything else. faris' dialogue is jarring, and i was most looking forward to seeing them and bartz. overall another title where i wouldnt be heartbroken if i never got to it. ive heard promising things abt the battle system and ost, and idly making headcanons for the cast as i play (like i did when i played ff iii) sounds fun, but unfortunately, i dont feel very drawn to turn based games if im not invested in the plot, so who can say

final fantasy ix - steam
progress: n/a
comments: speaking of turn based games with investing plots! i look forward to playing this

final fantasy xiv - steam
progress: 83hr
comments: over 80 hours in and ive barely advanced the plot in a realm reborn (the base game before all the expansions). ive sunk all my time into crafting and gathering in the free trial, and ive hit a point where im scared i wont like where those systems go since higher level gathering is timed. so you can only gather at specific times of the day, which puts me off. idk maybe ill figure out in game timers and it wont be a problem for me but im hesitant. and the sheer volume of main story quests ahead of me is daunting, so i dont know when ill truly sink my teeth into the game. if i were to properly get into an mmo, it would be ff xiv though

fortune summoners - steam
progress: n/a
comments: i like chantelise and carpe fulgar's localizations, so i might give this a try

growlanser generations - ps2
progress: n/a
comments: another game where i dont know what to expect. i inherited my copy from a relative, and the art is gorgeous, so id love to get around to this eventually

hakuoki: kyoto winds - ps vita
progress: ???
comments: completed a route like three years ago and had no thoughts. it was resoundingly "just okay", leaving me in an awkward spot where i dont want to retire it until i try other routes, but i have little motivation to give the other routes a try. perhaps i shall try again when i feel like reading in bed

kingdom hearts hd 1.5 and 2.5 remix - ps4
progress: 35hr
comments: i need to start kingdom hearts ii...... kh1 was fine enough but chain of memories and 358/2 days promised more and started to hook me. maybe after i finish my ff vii deep dive ill get back to my kingdom hearts dive?

knights of the old republic ii - steam - replay
progress: n/a
comments: i replayed kotor a few years ago and keep meaning to replay kotor ii as well, especially since it'd be my first time playing TSLRCM

omori - steam
progress: n/a
comments: im mentally ill so ive been told ill like this

persona 4 golden - ps vita
progress: 4hr
comments: played 4 hours during the summer a few years ago and forgot everything. i really liked persona 5, so im sure ill really like 2is, 2ep, 3, and 4, but the playtime is both a pro and a con for me. i love that you get to spend so much time with the plot and characters, as it made persona 5 feel really fleshed out to me, but its still a daunting amount of time to devote to one thing. its a high priority for me but i keep putting it off :( naoto i swear ill meet u one day.........

persona 5 strikers - ps4
progress: 5hr
comments: bought this on a whim and cant tell if i regret it or not. its fine? i guess? i bought it bc i missed the persona 5 cast, but since i played vanilla and not royal, i wonder if itd be better to just play royal instead of strikers the next time i get in a persona 5 mood. idk if this titles worth it

recettear - steam
progress: 10hr
comments: carpe fulgar....... i got stuck on the final deadline and need to do a second loop, but ive been too lazy to do everything all over again. ill get there eventually

sw jedi knight: jedi academy - steam
progress: n/a
comments: idk if ill like this but some of my star wars friends might so im kind of waiting to see if they want me to stream this or play together or smth

tales of zestiria - ps4
progress: 10hr
comments: played 10hrs years ago and have been pondering since then if i want to retire it. i liked half the cast and hated the other half

xenogears - ps vita
progress: 39hr
comments: I KNOW i know its insane to get 40 hours into esteemed jrpg cult classic xenogears only to stop but it was another case where my life got busy and i just never resumed playing. id like to do a deep dive into xenogears -> xenosaga -> MAYBE xenoblade since i really like the concept of there being ~50,000 years of lore and its crazy to me that there are like. 30 episode video essays delving into the symbolism and themes to the plot of xenogears alone. that all sounds right up my alley but i guess it hasnt been the right time. i promise ill get back to u xenogears (esp since i own the first xenosaga)

───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────

MISC MEDIA
currently binging black butler so i can get it out of my system (i really dont like black butler and i have some beef with yana toboso but unfortunately i cant stop thinking about it until i finish the manga so here we are). im midway thru trigun's 1998 anime, and i plan to start mo dao zu shi's animated series and bungou stray dogs' anime for my partner :)

───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────

ENDING THOUGHTS
sorry this first post is so long!! i know the backlog portion kind of dragged out but i want to see what u all think + maybe get a kick in the ass to start some of them! once i finish black butler ill probably watch bungou stray dogs and then play something more casual alongside it, like atelier escha & logy. im hoping to get a switch soon so i can play animal crossing: new horizons, stardew valley, and other farming sims, and i want to try some ps5 titles like persona 3 reload so that i dont feel so bad about purchasing a ps5 lol. we'll see!! see u next time ദ്ദി(๑>؂•̀๑) ๋࣭⭑ ✩

Woohoo, new blog! You'll have to write about that .hack game if you ever get to it. I plan on playing the whole series after getting .hack//G.U. Last Recode in a bundle but have heard that the old PS2 games can feel very empty and samey. Still, I'm a series completionist and can't play the newest game without playing the older ones first. The only game in your backlog I've played is Jedi Academy which people raved about online but I thought it was just OK. I'm sure the lightsaber combat was great for the time but I recently played through Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor and liked them way more. I also have Final Fantasy, Tales, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, and Dragon Age in my backlog, I'm excited to play through those series that everyone seems to like.

Hello! Wow, Carpe Fulgar games are ones I hardly ever see talked about. I had fun with Recettear and Fortune Summoners. I couldn't really get anywhere with Chantelise and it wasn't pulling me in.

im a little lost with the .hack series so i think the ps2 games come first and then the g.u games? i need to look up an introduction to the franchise, the last time i looked it up it completely left my mind lol. and same, im sure jedi academy is a lot different as a 2024 player, so im taking the raving reviews with a grain of salt.

i love final fantasy but i think its reputation really harms ur expectations going into them.. for example, i love ff vii but my first impressions of it 10 years ago were really thrown off by its "best rpg in all of gaming" status and i was left going "is that it...?". now that i can appreciate it for what it is, i really appreciate the character development and plot twists and have been having way more fun with vii and the rest of the compilation than i did with my first playthrough. other games like viii and xiii are much more enjoyable imo when you look at them through the lens of squaresoft/squeenix experimenting with the final fantasy formula.. expecting them to play like classic final fantasy titles only places too many expectations on what a final fantasy should look like or what they can be, and then you have other lost expectations. so imo the franchise is a lot better when u treat each title as its own beast, for better or for worse. maybe u like final fantasy at its best when its experimental! maybe u prefer the more traditional jrpg aspects! it truly varies. i hope you enjoy the rest of ur rpg backlog too! kotor is definitely a product of its time but ive had a lot of fun with my replay of the first game and im excited to replay kotor ii ^_^

omg!! aside from my sister i havent talked to another carpe fulgar fan lol. i got the bundle gifted to me when i was 10ish so ive technically played all three, but chantelise somehow captured me the most. its one of the few games i consider ive 100% completed (i missed one fish due to a bug with that fish type but its a long story). i usually dont get into games with difficult combat or excessive grinding but something about it clicked with me and i stuck with it. i have a lot of nostalgia for the dialogue and fishing mechanic and i really like how carpe fulgar localized the title and all the notes they posted about their process. but i totally understand why others wouldnt like it as much as the other two games, its definitely clunkier. recettear isnt clicking with me the same way but i still enjoy it and want to finish it sometime, and im not sure how ill feel about fortune summoners since its not an EasyGameStations release. i remember finding the pixel art really charming tho

UPDATE
hi!! i know its been a while but i havent been engaging with my hobbies as much for various reasons, including my sleep schedule and fatigue getting worse. but i do have a few updates so i thought id write another entry ^_^

ps1 and ps2 titles have been moved to my "fix systems" list! this is a catch-all list for games in my backlog that i can't play just yet for whatever reason; the title in question referring to titles that need a fix, like a new controller, before i get to them. im contemplating buying a crt tv for retro gaming, so until i get that sorted out, i'd like to wait and get to that part of my backlog later. this cuts down my backlog by a fair chunk, so it feels a lot lighter. i'll definitely be moving things around in the future, and if anyone has any thoughts on crt tvs i'd love to learn more!! i haven't started properly doing research, and when i was young enough to have a crt in the house i was only old enough to remember how they looked, so i don't know what goes into buying them or anything like that. but watching videos capturing how they look and video essays on them has captured my interest, i think they look gorgeous for ps1 and ps2 graphics

i keep thinking about starting new things, but haven't had the motivation and/or funds to do so. i had a brief spell where i kept researching boy's love visual novels and i'd feel awkward reporting back to y'all on that once i start dramatical murder or something, i doubt many people here are interested in the likes of yaoi jesus LOL. but yeah, now i'm interested in nitro chiral's library. i'd love to play atelier or maybe a new final fantasy, and i keep getting random moments of interest in things like modding ff xiv's character appearances so i can play dress up AND a final fantasy AND maybe roleplay with someone...... we shall see, part of battling my depression and fatigue involves starting new things, so i want to start doing things more. i hope it isn't uncomfortable for me to bring up my mental health, but as it's such a huge part of the way i approach media and my hobbies, it feels inevitable and i like being frank.

RECETTEAR
progress: 13hr 30min
i finally started the second loop! its going well but for some reason each session i sit down and play feels way longer than i've actually been playing. i'll get tired and figure i've been playing for five hours only to check my save file and see it's only been two hours. it makes the game kind of drag on, and while redoing everything for the second loop hasn't been as bad as i thought it'd be, i'm still frustrated trying to unlock the criteria for all the dungeons i'd gotten to in my first playthrough. i'm setting it aside for now and am not sure how much i want to continue, but i figure i'll keep chipping away at it slowly instead of it becoming a more frequent staple

FINAL FANTASY VII: REBIRTH
progress: 51hr
i also finally got back to playing rebirth!! i doubt i'll be able to finish the game in time but i'm hoping to at least meet vincent by the time i see my ffvii friend in about a week. i'm at cosmo canyon going through nanaki's trials and i'm not sure how i feel about the changes in this chapter. having nanaki's voice so drastically change threw me off LOL but i think i find it an interesting take on his character? not sure if his voice was supposed to change in the original japanese script for ffvii (1997) so now i'm curious how new this direction really is. the speech at the torch ceremony was... kind of cheesy tbh? i wish they just kept it a small, personal campfire for the party instead of these public scenes with everyone clapping (both for tifa in group therapy, and for aerith speaking up at the ceremony). rebirth is definitely a mixed bag for me. sometimes i love the way the remake games expand on the original game, characters, and lore, and other times i find myself cringing or wanting it overhauled. i'm scared for everything to do with the temple of the ancients + aerith's and zack's fates + the timeline theories and the ending. there's so much that can go wrong and even though it's been months since release, i still don't feel ready lol. im hoping my next update will be about the ending though, as much as i hesitate i still want to keep delving into the ff vii compilation. especially vincent, meaning dirge of cerberus is on my mind

NON GAMING
thank god my black butler moment is over. i openly sobbed at the blue cult arc's two ciels reveal and then blissfully felt a sense of closure. hopefully i don't feel the urge to return until the manga's over or something. until then i'm finally free
aside from that, i started watching bungo stray dogs! i'm about to start season 3 but i wanted a break after going to a convention. my partner and i are in this weird middle ground where it's a long drive and difficult to plan things, but i wouldn't call it long distance? but the series is one of his favorites and i want to start more discord calls or visits moving forward, so i'd like to watch with him too instead of just watching by myself. i think i see why he likes akutagawa (at the end of season two he's yelling about how unfair it is that atsushi doesn't have to worry about power and heirarchy and he already has dazai's approval and i went ohhhh.... so it's like what drew me to akechi from persona 5.... different motivations but similar enough that i think i get the appeal) but i want to see what he sees in the series since i'm not fully clicking with it just yet. i see a lot of art and cosplay for characters that haven't been introduced yet, so maybe the series doesn't hit it's stride until season three or so. we'll see!!

ENDING THOUGHTS
overall that's about it!! not as much as i was hoping for two and a half months, but i'll be back soon and hopefully i'll catch up on some other gaming blogs on here too. i miss forums and i'd like to participate in the community more since i love the site and organizing all my little lists and collections. until next time!! |˶˙ᵕ˙ )ノ゙
