------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beating Every GameCube Game -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings, travelers! I, a humble wizard of 140 winters, embark on a most peculiar quest—to master the tales spun within the enchanted cubes of games long past. With staff in hand and controller in the other, I shall vanquish every story mode of every GameCube title (in North America).
This ancient journey is not mine alone; I pay tribute to the pioneers before me (https://howlongtobeat.com/forum/thread/2493/1) honoring their paths while forging my own. Join me as I chronicle the magic, trials, and triumphs of each game, one spellbinding adventure at a time.

Should you wish to follow my progress, gaze upon the arcane scrolls where I document the games I currently play, those I have conquered, and the wisdom I glean from each. Visit the page, dear reader, and may the power of the GameCube guide you!

-------------------------------------------------------------

Started this quest on September 21, 2024.
Here to document the journey.
Doing the games in any order, suggestions are welcome.

Date Finished: September 25, 2024

Playtime: 2 Hours 49 Minutes

Recommend?: Does a bear sh*t in the woods?

Thoughts: A true gem of the realm, this game stands at the pinnacle of excellence! A veritable crowd favorite, it has captured many an hour of my time, weaving spells of joy and adventure with every playthrough.

*Ah, there I was, pipe in hand, playing for hours before I realized—by the beard of Merlin!—my drifting triggers weren’t even working! No wonder the challenge felt more taxing than I remembered... a humbling realization for this old wizard, indeed. Ha!

Title: X2: Wolverine's Revenge

Date Started: September 25, 2024
Date Finished: September 26, 2024

Playtime: 14 Hours 42 Minutes

Recommend?: If you wanted a Metal Gear Solid game, yes. If you wanted a super hero / Wolverine game, no.

Thoughts: An agreeable game, indeed! The thrill of mastering one's claws brings a measure of joy, and the combat is decent enough, with boss encounters offering a worthy challenge. However, the focus on stealth and reliance on heightened senses feels a bit misplaced, especially with scarce guidance for the player. The repeated restarts can become quite vexing, though perhaps a lack of skill lies on my part. Yet, the most grievous oversight is the sluggish pace of Wolverine’s healing—a most lamentable fate for a character whose very essence thrives on rapid regeneration! I would gladly trade some mystical senses for a more robust healing ability, rather than be burdened with the peculiar skill to discern the camera's gaze.

*R.I.P. to the brave healer who, after so kindly opening the door for Wolverine, met an unfortunate end beneath a toppled container. A moment of silence for the poor soul who crossed paths with our clawed hero’s recklessness.

Date Started: September 29, 2024
Date Finished: September 30, 2024

Playtime: 7 Hours 52 Minutes

Recommend?: Yes

Thoughts: A most enjoyable and exhilarating game, indeed! I delighted in its story mode, perfect for sharing the adventure with a friend. Had it woven a longer tale, it would have surely earned a perfect 10 in my spellbook. Nevertheless, it is well worth at least one grand playthrough!

Date Finished: October 7, 2024

Playtime: 5 Hours 7 Minutes

Recommend?: Yes

Thoughts: This game stirs fond memories within these ancient bones! How thrilling it was to revisit this enchanted realm nearly 20 years hence. The one-off characters held a fascinating allure, and I recall their origin tales being as freaky as they were intriguing to my youthful mind.

Date Started: October 12, 2024
Date Finished: October 12, 2024

Playtime: 1 Hour

Thoughts: Ah, much like the enchantments of Mario Party, yet falling short of its brilliance. Though my love for One Piece is strong, this game failed to cast the spell I had hoped for. Alas, the magic simply wasn’t there.

Date Finished: October 17, 2024

Playtime: 3 Hours 32 Minutes

Recommend?: No, there are better alternatives.

Thoughts: Alas, this game lacked the magic I had hoped for. A most generic racing experience with poorly crafted maps, offering naught but a mundane journey. Nothing within its design sparkles with uniqueness or sets it apart from the rest of the games in the realm

To embark upon its story mode with three companions by your side, wielding the powers of mighty heroes, marks any game as one of the finest spellbinding experiences one can have!

*Wanting to play this game is the reason I downloaded an emulator and began playing, which then sparked the idea of starting this GameCube journey.

This is no easy task. May we pay our respects to our fallen comrade. Loganfinity.

For he fought valiantly but succumbed to the GameCube itself.

Playtime: 3 Hours 56 Minutes

Recommend?: Yes

Thoughts: I approached this game with tempered expectations, yet as I delved deeper, my enjoyment grew like a spell unfurling its true potential. While it’s a typical fighting game of its era, I found it curiously engaging, with solid combat mechanics and worthy move lists. A game worth experiencing, indeed!

I chose to play as Voldo—his look held a strange allure, most intriguing to these ancient eyes! His zestful stride and peculiar fighting style brought added entertainment to the fray. But, pray tell, why did the creators fashion him with such...thickness?

Title: Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix

Date Started: October 25, 2024
Date Finished: October 25, 2024

Playtime: 1 Hour 17 Minutes

Recommend?: Nah, I'd just play regular version of DDR.

Thoughts: A curious blend, like Dance Dance Revolution entwined with the magic of Mario Party. The journey was easier and briefer than I anticipated, with songs of merely modest charm. Yet, the ending warmed this old wizard's heart with its wholesome touch.

*And David Mario danced before the Lord Bowser with all his might

**Would've been an interesting coincidence if I had played this yesterday, the 24th, as I would have played and completed the story mode for the first time exactly 19 years from it's release date.

Thoughts: Ah, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy—where this ancient wizard took on the mantle of yet another wizard! It stirred memories of the olden days, wielding magic and battling dark forces with arcane prowess. The spells, the mana, the thrill of casting bolts of power against relentless foes—it was as if I’d been transported back to a time when magic was pure and battles were fought in mystical realms. A nostalgic and exhilarating adventure, indeed! A truly fantastic game! The realms were vast, engaging, and brimming with challenges to test even the most seasoned wizard. I'm not as knowledgeable about the full Gamecube library as others here. Could you explain why your profile picture is showing 554 total games while Tiamat said there are 651 and UnsungGhost's collection shows 647? Which games are missing from your planned playthrough and why?

Forgive me, when I started this journey it was for the GameCube games released in North America, I'm realizing now I haven't stated that. When I searched how many games were released, I came across a different responses, but the YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56a3KnlQIkc&t=713s) where the user had collected every physical copy of each game, is the one I stuck with. This journey is a long one so I figured I'd fix it if I crossed that bridge.

Am I wrong on the amount of games that were released for the GameCube in North America?
Should I just show the total amount of games regardless of region?

Thanks for the explanation! I have no idea if you're wrong on the number of Gamecube games released in North America hence my question. As for your second question, I would say to just include the games you plan on playing so if you only plan to play the 554 games listed in the video link you sent, that sounds good to me.

Wikipedia lists 651 in all regions. My list has some corrections from that list in the description, hence 647. There are some that are counted twice because they had a special disc or an expansion that is basically the same game with bug fixes.

PAL games are in English +95% of the time. Occasionally, you'll get a game that is German or Spanish only. There are also not a lot of PAL exclusives.

Realistically, you could probably play a few of the Japanese titles without knowing Japanese. Shoot-em-ups, beat-em-ups and platformers are going to be basically the same. There are also well done fan translations for around 20 of them. (I have a list that says 23, but some are relocalizations of games we already got here.)

So it's up to you, but you have options. Some of the online games are going to be pretty hard to play either way. Phantasy Star online comes to mind but there might be others. There's probably some that use weird proprietary controllers too.

I just made a list for only the North American releases. I'm counting 551, but I may have missed a few. Let me know if you find them. The Wikipedia list might also be wrong.
