The best Yoshi game, with tons of charm and quality level design. Having four sets of collectibles introduces some stress that doesn’t suit what is meant to be an easygoing experience, but I could see myself playing through it in multiplayer.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

World variation is impressive, with each level full of detail. Seeing hanging shy guys sometimes upside down or turned the wrong way was still funny 50hrs in.The platforming is incredibly tight and although often focused on laid back puzzle solving don’t mistake this for an easy game. There are areas that will satisfy dedicated platforming fans, as well as incredibly tricky special stages and some great boss fights.
To keep this family friendly, the in-game currency can be used to purchase per-level power ups that trivialise certain elements of gameplay. This prevents any difficulty blockers and makes the game incredibly accessible.
Most of all I loved collecting all of the Yoshi colour scheme appearances for each level, which made 100% completion of this game an absolute joy.
A true hidden gem and a must play. This deserves a Switch port, which I'd play and 100% all over again.

This game was the fifth game in my longplay series on Twitch. This was one I previously failed as the first attempt was in the form of a race. I came back to the game a little over a year later as a solo playthrough to finish it off. This game is another game that gives me a ton of nostalgia and I had a really fun time playing through the game! :DUpdated 2 Months Ago

To be fair, I had a very poor method to 100% each stage, where I tried to do it in the very first run. Wasted lots of time looking for stuff, some stages even an hour on. One collectible is completely missable if you let the enemy fly away, which took me forever to realize.Grinded some of the special stages for the longest time till I decided to just use some of the power-ups, otherwise I think I would have gone past 100 hours in this game.
Yoshi is so freakin slow in this game compared to Island.

Woolly World is a fantastic platformer that feels lke the first Yoshi game to truly live up to the legacy of Yoshi's Island. I've started it and dropped it over and over, however I feel like it finally clicked. Of the Good Feel platformers Woolly World is easly the one I would recommend the most.Updated 6.5 Months Ago

Without using power ups, and going for collectibles, the game is actually more difficult than you might think. Good music, well designed levels, charming atmosphere, this is a solid 2D platformer. A shame that it came out during a time when the Wii U desperately needed compelling games that weren’t 2D platformersUpdated 11 Months Ago

Yoshi's Woolly World generally seems to be seen as one of the best Yoshi games to come out, and while I personally wasn't crazy about it, I can see the appeal. It's freaking adorable and the whole game is beautiful with everything made out of yarn, string, or similar materials. When Nintendo gets an idea like this, they certainly know how to execute it very, very well. It was a visual spectacle to look at, however I didn't feel that same magic when actually playing it.
To me it just felt *too* mellow. The music, while well done, practically put me to sleep, and the game was incredibly easy. In many of the early stages, basic enemies like Shy Guys don't even move. I also felt the game just moved too slowly, and there wasn't a whole lot to really engage me as I played. Using balls of yarn to fill in platforms, ramps, and other parts of the stage was a pretty nice change of pace from the other Yoshi games, but it didn't add enough to change my experience much.
If you want a cute, very chill game that's highly appealing to look at, it would be worth looking into Yoshi's Woolly World. At the very least, I'd suggest watching a couple stages on YouTube so you can appreciate the art style of the game.

A very cute sidescrolling platformer with Yoshi as the main character. In fact, the game is populated with dozens of different looking Yoshi's. The twist is that everything in the world, including the Yoshi's, are made of yarn. In fact the game itself comes with a knitted Yoshi figure. It's very much like a typical Mario game but with a yarn theme. I can't say I followed the plot very closely, but it was fun. Especially co-op where you can toss the other player like a ball of yarn.Updated 3.5 Years Ago

I watched a full Let's Play of Yoshi’s Woolly World years ago, and, having finally played it myself, I found the game to be just as cute and comfy as I remembered. The soft, knitted environments were lovingly rendered, and the charm of flinging yarn balls at my enemies never got old. The badge system helped in my quest for 100 percent by making level replays easier. I would always comb through a level without badges first, but on subsequent searches for that one missing collectible, badges would let me avoid unnecessary restarts and eliminate my need for a walkthrough. I appreciate that the game developers respected the player’s time enough to include those options, even if many people may avoid using them.Woolly World is a consistently good game, and one that I’m glad I experienced firsthand. But that consistency comes at the cost of memorability, and the game never went beyond good to become great. Playing Yoshi’s Crafted World first has definitely influenced my opinion here, but I remember so many things about that game, both the fantastic and the frustrating. Woolly World provides a more even experience with better music variety and less padding, but a lot of the game blends together in my memory. The stages, music, and boss fights were all cute and fun, but they lack the “Wow!” factor that Crafted World rose up and delivered when it was at its best. Woolly World’s mellowness limits its staying power; I don't see myself replaying it unless a friend and I can play in co-op mode. Still, I appreciate Woolly World for the friendly, cozy atmosphere it maintained throughout my time with it. It was the perfect game to relax with after a stressful day.

I'm not quite sure whether to give this game a 90% or a 100%. It doesn't revolutionize or innovate much of anything compared to a game like Pikmin, so maybe a 90%? However, rating it just for what it is and how perfectly it executes every single element of its design it is a 10 out of 10. Based on how cute and fun it is I would also give it a 10 out of 10. So to sum things up, it isn't a wildly revolutionary game, but it couldn't POSSIBLY be any more charming or creative within the theme it is playing in (everything revolves around knitting). Judged just based on its own it is a perfect game.Updated 5 Years Ago

PROS:1) Excellent graphics
2) Good length
3) Being able to select your difficulty makes the game fun and accessible for beginners and experts alike
4) Collecting everything is challenging and extends the post story gameplay by many hours
CONS:
1) Nothing really new or exciting is brought to the table
OVERALL: Pretty much a standard Yoshi game with a yarn styled skin. solid on all fronts but some may yearn for more innovation

I wish I didn't have to rate this game as low as I have. I really do see why some people might enjoy it and what the game has to offer, but for me personally I can't help but give it a 60%. The levels are vibrant and wonderful and the world is amazing. Yoshi is so cute as are some of the enemies and the general feel of the game. I just found it too easy (okay I get that it's perhaps for a younger audience) but I just wish there was a harder option to choose from. Toward the end of the game I just wanted it to be finished. I did not want another game for my "retired" list.
If you're into your platformers and don't mind an easier game then this is for you and you'll probably love it and give it a much higher rating than I have felt it deserves.

Beautiful visuals and an adorable aesthetic. The levels themselves are darn creative, both in the stage settings/backgrounds as well as the panoply of mechanics, cloth-related or otherwise. The highlights of the game are without a doubt the parts where they take full advantage of the yarn theme and toy with it--the velcro stage being a personal favorite of mine--but there are few (if any) levels that felt particularly uninspired. With this game, the developers also show their mastery of player-created difficulty. There aren't any levels that are difficult to complete from beginning to end, but when you go out of your way to collect the extra hidden goodies (of which there are an insane amount) you're like to find yourself navigating some treacherous obstacle courses... and for a game as mellow as this, the checkpoints are spread rather far apart.Of all the Yoshi games that have been released since Yoshi's Island, this is by far the most worthy successor, if only because it trades out the grating kazoo soundtrack from Yoshi's New Island and replaces it with some soft acoustic tracks as well as some kickin' guitar-and-bass grooves.

Yoshi's Woolly World is another great addition to the Yoshi's Island type game franchise. The same characters are here from Poochy to Kamek. The level design is well thought out and challenging. The S levels are even more challenging. It follows the same formula as all Mario type games of late. Where there's enough challenge that the average player can get through the game and feel satisfied. While there is more challenging levels for the completionists. Graphically the game is gorgeous. The colors are bright and the fuzz effects on the yarn is the added touch to make this game special. Audio is good enough there are some catchy level tracks. Also none of the effects sound muddled. Lastly the ability to play with the plethora of Wii/ WiiU controllers makes for a fun multiplayer experience as well.Updated 8.5 Years Ago

Yoshi's Wooly Wolrd is side scrolling platformer which has a pretty unique art style: everything is made of yarn. Yoshi has several moves that makes him unique. First you can eat your enemies by sticking your long tounge at your enemies and then swallow them turning them into yarn balls. Then, if you have yarn balls you can throw them at your enemies, where when you press the throw button a courser oscillates up and down, and you throw it in the direction of the courser. Finally l, in order to make things a little easier, Yoshi has a flutter kick that allows him to stall in the air or gain a little bit more distance. So there is a story for this game, I guess. I mean, it's a platformer, so if you're looking for a good story, your in the wrong genre. Kameck, the magic koopa unravels all the Yoshi's on Craft Island, and as one of the only Yoshi still standing, you have to chase Kameck and save your friends. You don't actually have to save them, but if you collect the five yarn bundles you can knit them back together and can use them instead. Anyway, after you chase Kameck across six worlds Kameck leads you to Baby Bowser. It is your job to defeat him, ending his terror.
Okay, so let's talk about the game. It's very easy. The flutter kick allows so much freedom, so precision isn't really required for platforming. It is actually the throwing that requires more precision, if you opt for the "hasty" throwing style. Because of this, this isn't a normal platformer, where the goal is to go from left to right. That is still the end game, but there are a lot of things to discover and areas to explore along the way. There are a few levels where explorations is mandatory, which turn out to be the best levels, but most allow you to find some collectibles. There are secrets everywhere, just waiting to be found. This basically allows you to make your own difficulty level as getting all the secrets in one run and remaining unhit is genuinely difficult.
This is a pretty good game. Fairly short and maybe too easy, especially when you consider the fact that they added a super powered Yoshi that can be just turned on, but really fun if you want it to be. It has great visuals and a wide variety of music, so while playing the game you'll never be sick of it. The thing is, you'll never really be proud of yourself for beating a level, or at least I never was. It's enjoyable and fun, just not interesting.
