Atmosphere, worldbuilding and phenomenal voice acting are by far Bioshock’s strongest points. The main plot if not supplemented with all voice recordings found all around the rapture seems quite dull. Enemies’ movement is often confusing and fighting gets boring rather quickly even in spite of all new weapons, plasmids and upgrades that can be unlcoked. Plasmid mechanic is alright, although unnecessarily overexpanded and unbalanced. I have to admit I was (just a little) tired of Bioshock towards the end. Even the simple hacking mechanic that I adored in the first half of the game eventually became exhausting due to it's repetitive nature.weak replay value

Honestly one of the best games I’ve ever played. The story is amazing, the world building is amazing (even the tapes) and the performances from the voice actors are incredible. However, Bioshock is still a product of its time and hasn’t held up as well as other games, but even with that said it is an amazing experience and I would still recommend the game today.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Andrew Ryan GOAT, everything about this game is a masterpiece. From story, to emersion, to characters and their philosophy's, this is a game that sticks with you for life. Not only would I want a remake, I want sequels in all forms. Movies/DLC/Books, I just want more!Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

Feels a bit dated in 2023, but I see the beginnings of a lot of really good ideas. The combat feels a bit clunky having to switch between plasmids and gun play every time, felt myself using plasmids a lot less than I wanted to because of that. Bioshock 2 and infinite got this right by letting you use both at the same time. Story and atmosphere wise, this game nails it in a way that Bioshock 2 definitely felt lacking in.

Was a good game with an ineresting story with nice twists. Game world is an interesting premise although I personally didn't care much for it. Combat is ok constantly found myself running out of ammo and the powers are a neat addition.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

It was a great game when it came out, but really starting to show its age nowadays. The story is quite straightforwards and on rails for the most part, though there is some limited exploring for rewards. Main focus are the characters and the story itself, which are really engaging and elevating the game a lot. Making it really fun to play. The gameplay feels quite dated and clunky at parts, as well as many abilites and weapons just feeling quite useless and nothing more but novelty. The mini-games pipe-puzzles. are a bit frustrating to deal with after every corner. All in all a great game, but far from perfect.

Greatest game of all time, i'll remember it for life, even though the lack of impact of saving/killing little sisters is a crime and really is a shame for a game so directly centered around the importance of choice and its freedom. I think it doesnt impact much of your playthrough tho.Updated 2 Months Ago

This is a classic, one of the best plots I've ever seen in a game. Andrew Ryan is one of the best and most compelling villains I've seen in media. It has aged a little in regards to gameplay and shooting mechanics, plasmids and your guns can't be used at the same time, enemies sometimes feel like they'll shoot you when you have the tiniest pixel showing, especially the Rosie variant of the Big Daddies. It's still a fantastic game that I recommend to everyone.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Updated 3 Months Ago

The first in a series and in my opinion, probably actually the best one. A solid if predictable story. Good gameplay mechanics and level design. It unfortunately suffers from bad bosses and no real incentive to explore the incredible world it's set in.Updated 3 Months Ago

The game holds up very well, even a decade later.I've wanted to play Bioshock for a long time. Heard great things about the game, but never got around to it. I just finished the remastered version, and wow, I would still consider it a very unique experience even 11 years later. The environment. The atmosphere. The narrative. It's all phenomenal. The whole underwater city, and the 70's theme fit together perfectly. The way the city was in ruins, and the underlying mystery as to why everything is in ruins, was all very gripping. I couldn't put the controller down. I wanted to know what came next. The dialogue and progression slowly uncovered more and more. And more and more I was drawn in. The plot is filled with twists and turns.
The Little Sisters and Big Daddys concept is very interesting. The ADAM for your power up is right there, but they won't fight you unless you fight them. This element of freedom the game gave was great. I can't really think of any game that does it this way. Where a mini-boss is literally just lurking around the entire level. All the power ups were interesting as well.
Though there are a few problems. Not being able to swap the positions of your power ups and weapons was super annoying. Having remembered what the hotkey for a certain item was for a long duration of the game, it completely threw me off when the positions was switched around, because of an event or I swapped a power up along the way. There is also a mouse sensitivity problem on the remastered version, if you play on PC. This was extremely annoying, and I've read others have experienced it too.

I played the remastered version, which does seem slightly aged, but overall was a pretty good experience! I don't often play these kinds of games, but it is a fun type every once in a while. As I was going through my backlog looking for a new game to start, I decided to just hit the random button and this showed up. Glad I gave it the time!Updated 3.5 Months Ago

So I played and beat this on the remastered collection on ps4, which doesn't have play times 🙄 whatever.I feel like I actually payed attention and actually followed the game this time around, which was quite rewarding! I love the details of the world building and the sound design is excellent!
I look forward to smashing through this trilogy again one day on steam and actually having play times to record.

Bioshock is a game I had missed out on years ago and as much as I love the Bioshock games, this one, even remastered doesn't hold well with today's standards. gameplay holds Bioshock back the most. That being said, in terms of story, this is one of the best series out there and if you can get passed the rough gameplay, Bioshock will not fail you.Updated 3.5 Months Ago

Overall, I think it's pretty good.Things I like:
- It's an inherently political game that has something to say about a specific philosophical approach. I grew up in an area known as the libertarian capital of the US, so seeing a piece of art that specifically comments on that sociopolitical belief system, even if what it has to say is anti-libertarian, is pretty neat.
- The combat is fairly varied. Plasmids, lots of guns, and a bit of stealth is possible.
- The story! Without revealing the twist, the ending is particularly cool. You also have some level of agency in the story too! There's a good ending and a bad ending.
Things I didn't like:
- The consequences for the choices aren't all that fleshed out. Neither are the choices themselves. The whole moral system is very small and not the marketing point I think it was made out to be.

8.5/10 A sinister game, your first hours of gameplay you don’t know what’s happening, but it’s awesome shooting and using eve powers. Game art, environment and lighting are awesome, gives you the right feeling on being on a chaotic submarine city full of monsters and bad people. Being on the same page with the story telling is difficult, I played with speakers and subtitles due to preference, and I struggled with the radio listening, and reading subtitles was impossible if any combat was involved, having different story lines is a perfect addition, since you could represent your thinking on the gameplay. The final boss gave me a bad taste of this workpiece, it felt really ‘just shoot and drain eve’, no brain battle, although the little sisters draining him at the end is a great closing.

One of the best FPS out there, i like the setting and the music and the story and the gameplay, its all good really. My only minor gripe is that towards the ending it goes a bit downhill and the final boss is terrible, also the moral choices are so easy game should've tried to make it more tricky and harder for the player to decide what is right and wrong.
Other than that a masterpiece and a very inspired game. I prefer it over system shock 2 tbh.

Bioshock is an amazing game and one that deserves to be played at least once in your life, if you somehow haven't already! From the opening moments when you discover the city of Rapture underneath the sea, you will be captivated by the art deco environments and the memorable enemies and characters. As you progress through the game, you will learn more about the city and the people who built it by picking up audio logs, some of which are deeply disturbing. There is a definite horror element to the game, and there will be moments when you're both scared and fighting hard to stay alive. Key to survival is using plasmids, as well as the weapons at your disposal, against your enemies. Plasmids allow you to genetically modify yourself, giving you some very useful powers. Along with the environments, these give you multiple ways to deal with enemies, which makes the gameplay interesting and fun.
