I think each game in UFO 50 should get its own page

I honestly believe the reason there aren't many completion submissions for each game is because their pages don't show up when you search for them, not due to lack of interest.
So last night I went ahead and submitted pages for each game along with their descriptions and screenshots of their intro screens to use as covers, and I posted links to them on the UFO 50 fan discord server to get more time submissions

Did you sort by negative reviews or something? Because most of the feedback I've seen are people being surprised by the sheer scope of this collection.
I've personally played for 30 hours and I've only beaten 7 of the 50 games so far. They're not shallow games, each one I've tried has been worth playing and taken many hours of my time.
But even if one were to dislike most of the games in the collection, that doesn't change the fact that to beat every game could take hundreds of hours. One person I spoke to on the fan Discord got a pre-release copy, and they've played for over 500 hours and still haven't 100%'d everything yet.
I just think it would be better if we could submit our times for each game separately. I think it would be more useful information to have given the circumstances. Especially since no one person on HLTB seems to have beaten every game in the collection yet. The only completion times I see on the UFO 50 page are from a user using HLTB's custom title feature to keep track of each game individually. So it seems obvious to me that separate pages are what people want

Another example of the search result problem I mentioned here a couple weeks ago. Because of how the search works right now, if you search for "ape escape" you'll just get a huge list of every game with the word "escape" in the title.

For each gaming session I just write down the time when I start playing, and what time it is when I stopped playing. Then I add it all together with a calculator after I beat the game. Unless I'm playing the game on Steam, since Steam tracks your playtime for you.

I wish there was some way, to search for an exact word in game titles. I've been playing games in the Ys series lately, but those game pages are really hard to find with the site's search function. I can't just search for "Ys" and get a list of every Ys game. Because it just returns any word that has the letters YS in it, like garrYS mod, crYSis, or fall guYS, etc.
There has to be some way to deal with this. I was thinking maybe if you searched for a word in quotation marks, it would only return results where that was the entire word. Maybe there's a better way to do it. Maybe if the site had a way to group games together based on their franchise, that could be a solution. idk, I'm just spitballing ideas here

The game is very grindy. Just keep doing runs and upgrading your camp until you're powerful enough to beat him. Grinding resources for your camp in chapter 1 also makes the other chapters easier.

The UFO 50 website describes it as a collection of 50 individual games, and says "rest assured that they are full games and not microgames or minigames! Completing the entire collection could easily take over a hundred hours." The steam also page says "Although the size of each game varies, every one is a complete experience with its own title screen, intro, and ending. Some are small arcade-style games but there are also larger open-world adventures and a JRPG that could take many hours to beat."
I've been following UFO 50's development for a while, watching one of the dev team members stream their progress on twitch. And as far as I can tell it does seem to be true that each game in the collection is going to be a full fledged game. It's not a half-assed collection that something like Action 52 is, so I think once UFO 50 comes out and we know the title of each game in the collection, that they should all be given their own page, especially since each game will be of a different length.

What's your game of the year? (2003-2019)

I haven't played the vast majority of your nominations, there's literally only 1 year where I actually played more than 1 of your nominations. So my GOTY's in this situation are just whatever the one I actually played was.
I feel like these games awards shows you're basing your nominations on are pretty biased towards "AAA" games. Which I've never really been a big fan of.

The Space Quest games are pretty funny. Especially the wacky death animations

I agree that Getting Over It is frustrating. But it's also one of my favorite games of all time. Literally in my top 10, unironically. Mastering the mechanics, and managing to do in 9 minutes what originally took you 9 hours is hugely rewarding. (Gotta turn off the default mouse acceleration though, game is literally unplayable with that on)
Also I wanna mention that there's an accessibility option in Celeste to slow down the game, giving you more time to react. Which may make the final chapter feel less daunting. I managed to have fun with it after I enabled that option.
But anyways. If anyone here liked Getting Over It and would like to play an equally (or perhaps even more-so) frustrating yet still very rewarding game, I would highly recommend Jump King.

Overall I'm satisfied with this site. But there's one thing that bugs me. In Firefox there's an ability to add a site's search to your search shortcuts.
And doing this works on every other site I use it on, but not HLTB. And I dunno why. From the shortcuts I've set up, if I wanna search google I type "g [something]", for duckduckgo I type "d [something]". I set the HLTB's shortcut to h, but when I type "h [something]", all it loads is the main page. No search results.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with HLTB or a problem with Firefox. But it annoys me nonetheless. I just thought I'd bring it up on the chance it's a HLTB problem.

I wish there was a broader term for grid-based dungeon crawlers that would make it easier to find others. Because "blobbers" only refers to party based ones, where your party moves around in a "blob". There are a bunch of first person grid-based dungeon games that aren't classified as blobbers

I've just noticed that the main search will show you results from both the main titles and their aliases, but if you're searching through your playthroughs it doesn't consider aliases.
For example, The Legend of the Mystical Ninja shows up when I search for "Goemon", because its alias is Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyuushutsu Emaki. But if I search for "Goemon" in my playthroughs that game doesn't show up even though I've played it.
I'm not sure if this was intentional or not but it's just something I noticed.

Timing a game you can fail

This is kinda why I never go by the in-game clock for my times. Because if you die and have to reload a save you made hours earlier, in most games those hours won't be counted towards the in-game completion time shown on your save file or shown during the credits. Also a lot of games never take into account the loading times in the in-game timer. More often than not, the in-game timer is off by several hours, far less than the time I actually spent playing the game.
I think to give a fully accurate representation of how long the game takes to beat, those times not counted in-game should be accounted for. So I just jot down on a piece of paper the time I start playing, and the time I stop playing for each session. And after I beat the game I just add it all together on a calculator to find my final time.

I meant the genre tags in the Game Details section on game pages

12 Yrs♥$✓#
It would be cool to be able to search by genre
Genre tags on Steam are good for finding the type of game you want, but it doesn't help with game length. But now that HLTB has length search I think a genre search would compliment it nicely.
I know genre tags are entered here manually though so it wouldn't always be 100% accurate, but it could still be useful

one of my custom filters was picking up the main site .js for some reason
it was error on my part, sorry
I've disabled adblock for this site now anyway

12 Yrs♥$✓#
I'm getting "ReferenceError: search_enable is not defined"
and
"ReferenceError:nav_games is not defined"
in my error console when I try to use the search and user buttons.
The search page won't show up and the user dropdown thing won't show either.
If I turn my adblock off some keys get saved in my browser's local storage for the site and suddenly the links work even with adblock on, but it goes back to not working if I clear localstorage.
Was this a deliberate anti-adblock measure?
