Genuinely the most fun I’ve ever had with a Kirby game. And I’m not even a big fan of sidescrollers, but the robot sections in this game are so fun and creative, and it has some of the best Kirby power-ups in the series. The story is cute, and the collectibles are fun. I love that the stickers pay homage to the rest of the series up to this point it’s a really cute creative way to reward players for exploring the world. Great game highly recommend.Updated 1 Month Ago

Kirby: Planet Robobot uses a very similar, if not the same engine as Kirby's Return to Dream Land as well as Triple Deluxe, but in a good way, for example the same well designed collectible system is used again. Despite the similarities, the artists and game designers got extremely creative with this title. The theming and art style are incredible, and the sound track is really high quality and fits the theme very well, the remixes of the retro music is great to listen to. Planet Robobot is unlike any previous Kirby game making it a very unique entry. The main gimmick of the game, the mech suit is perfectly well done. When I encountered the very first one I was excited, but then I realized that the mech suit can even get copy abilities which are all unique. There are quite a few abilities that hadn't been in a Kirby game since Super Star which were really fun to see and use, such as the Mirror and Wing abilities. And then there are even a few new abilities added such as the doctor, and even Kirby's smash bros. move set at least in secret areas. The abilities for the mech suit are slightly limited, for example there are a few abilities that can't be copied and are just translated into another, but that honestly isn't even an issue since there is plenty of variety anyway. The mech suit is utilized extremely well too, a common use for it in levels is puzzles, most of which are fun and well designed. Working through different puzzles with the stone mech, and the electric mech were really fun. And then the wheelie and jet mechs are completely unique almost game modes. The jet mech puts you into essentially a side scrolling plane level which is extremely fun. And then the wheelie mech is essentially a car which is usually used in levels that are designed really well for it. Fighting bosses, especially the unique ones designed to fight against the mech are really fun. Essentially the mech suit gimmick, while not utilized in every level and usually not for the entirety of a level, is extremely well made and pretty much all sections that involve it are an absolute blast to play through.
One of my favorite changes in Planet Robobot is that many of the levels are shorter. There are a decent amount of longer levels, but there were many more short levels than both Return to Dream Land and Triple Deluxe, which is really good change in my opinion. I really like the shorter level format of the earlier Kirby games, it just feels like it fits the game style better and so I was really happy to see that a little more. I'm was also happy to see the same collectible system in place. The systematic placements of the collectibles or 'code cubes' makes them much more enjoyable to collect, and makes it so I don't have to replay too many levels. And it doesn't feel like they are too easy either, many of them do take a bit of brain power and skill for solving puzzles and spotting hidden areas. And the stickers are also new, and they actually have a use which is to stick them on the arms of the mech suit in game (which I ended up discovering pretty late in my playthrough). The stickers were overall really fun to collect. I was also really happy to see the level design quality stick all the way through the final 2 worlds, something that earlier games had struggled with.
The side game modes are also really fun. Kirby 3D rumble is actually the very first time Kirby had been in 3D, and it worked very well. Team Kirby clash is also very good, I found it really fun how there was a leveling system as well as a decent class system. And as always there's the Arena which I skipped out on since I don't particularly enjoy boss rushes. There's also Meta Nightmare Returns which I also skipped out on since I didn't enjoy the Dedede version in Triple Deluxe. But overall the game is not lacking in terms of side modes, there's a lot of fun to be had with them.
The game is not perfect though, the camera sometimes zooms out way to far for the little 3DS screen, there are a few disappointing game design choices such as the life counter resetting every game restart, and it's still impossible to backtrack very far in levels, which are very disappointing to see in a game that released in 2016. There's also the EX levels which are unlocked for getting 100% in a world, which are slightly improved from Triple Deluxe, but overall just drag on too much. But aside from the few issues, Kirby: Planet Robobot a great game. From the level design to the gameplay it is close to perfect, it is easily one of the most creative and interesting entries in the Kirby series.

Absolutely groundbreaking and outstanding in every single aspect. It's rather short (took me around 6 hours to complete story mode), but literally every second of this very game is all gas: originality, rewarding and enjoyable gameplay and moderate difficulty range make Planet Robobot not only the best entry in Kirby franchise, but my favorite 2D-Platformer as well. If you still have your 3ds collecting dust, then you have simply no excuse for sleeping on this gameUpdated 2 Months Ago

I first started playing this shortly after Triple Deluxe, but due to their similarities I kinda bounced off it initially. Now after some time I have finally come back and beaten Planet Robobot and honestly I don't quite think it's as worthy of being clearly the better of the two as many would claim. Don't get me wrong, this game is great and does all the things I would expect a Kirby game to do. The titular Robobot mechanic is a lot of fun and I particularly liked the fact that it got its own copy abilities alongside Kirby's. Still though, when I think back to my impressions of Triple Deluxe, I was really charmed by that game. This one, by contrast, just didn't impress me in quite the same way.Taken on its own and not compared to its predecessor, this game is really excellent. It's well-made, fun to play (although Kirby himself feels painfully slow, even while running), and performs great even on the original 3DS hardware. If you're looking to play a game on 3DS, you could do a lot worse than this one.

This has got to be the best 2D kirby game. So many banger power ups to choose from and all the abilities are fleshed out to their fullest with multiple moves ONTOP of the mech suit abilities.Playing in the background of levels and the cool camera angles combined with the 3D effect brings makes the levels look mind blowing
I really adore the robot style the game presents the world and enemies. Its unlike anything else kirby has done but totally fits right in. The robot versions of previous bosses in the series were awesome
The story wasn't anything at all and the main story is pretty easy but deep stories and difficulty isn't what your playing a kirby game for.

From start to finish, this is the greatest Kirby game you could play of the new 2.5D trilogy. If the New Super Mario Bros. games sanatized their brand and stopped innovation, this game is Kirby team perfecting the new formula while taking enough risks for it to feel fresh. The new abilities and especially the mech suit fit together so well with the gameplay. Rather than an overpowered-up you get near the end of a level, you get the Robobot Armor sometimes near the middle. With it you can scan enimies, push obstacles, lift things for puzzle solving, jump, hover, and that's not including any of the scanned abilities which are also used for unique platforming and puzzle segments. The Level design and enemy placement is on point with very cool techno overtaking nature aesthetics. The soundtrack (which is amazing they got it on spotify) is the of the best in the series and is also techno inspired. If you play 3ds it's criminal to skip this game, as it is maybe the best platformer on the handheld system.Updated 7 Months Ago

If we can consider this the finale in the "Returns" trilogy, consisting of Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, and Planet Robobot, then Robobot is by far the strongest one. Easily the most confident and well-designed of the bunch, Robobot has everything a good Kirby game needs: Creative copy abilities, a gimmick with meaningful gameplay implications, kick-ass music, focused level design, exciting bossfights, and a story with more to it than it seems. I might even go as far as to say if you only play one Kirby game, make it this one. It's that good!Updated 1 Year Ago

This is definitely a high point for the mainline Kirby series. Somehow I missed this game upon its release despite being a pretty loyal Kirby fan since the original game on the Game Boy. While most sidescrolling Kirby titles tend to be a fun time, it can't be denied that they've changed very little over time. I loved Triple Deluxe but there was very little there that was new or original. Planet Robobot really mixes things up by incorporating the mech into the level design. Similar to an animal buddy in Dream Land 2 or the DKC series, the mech really changes up the gameplay and is usually key to discovering the hidden cubes in each level. This one change adds enough variety to the already excellent Kirby formula that even the most devoted fans of the franchise will have to admit this is one of the best titles. With stellar music, a ton of homages to past games, varied gameplay, and delightful visuals, Planet Robobot is an all-time great Kirby game.

I wanted to play another Kirby after Forgotten Land and Planet Robobot seems to be a fan-favorite. I definitely enjoyed it but it by no means rocked my world. It's still a pretty bog-standard Kirby game in spite of some cool flourishes. The robot world theming is quite nice. There are some really cool levels like trains and a city with waddle dees driving into the camera but many also fall into standard themes (forest, ocean, desert), just with machine parts everywhere. The front-back 2.5D stuff from Triple-Deluxe is here and works great. Tragically, the level design is still very blocky, repetitive, and random so these levels still hold very little immersive appeal, even if it's an improvement from more standard Kirby games like Star Allies or Triple Deluxe. The kirby mech is similarly fun but isn't a game-changer. Like the giant-object abilities in the recent Forbidden Land, these sections add great variety and I love that you're often forced or pushed into a specific power. These sections are more well-designed as a result and I think Kirby should have more of this even with the base powers.
Aside from those things, this is pretty much Kirby as usual. There's a ton of power ups, the platforming is too easy because you can fly, the combat usually isn't interesting and fun will vary depending on your ability, and you can blaze through levels at a fast clip. The collectibles are actually pretty fun here. I was able to find most of the cubes on my first run and there were only a few BS ones, which can be a headache in other Kirby games. Overall, solid time but hasn't shocked my perception of Kirby. I think Super Star, Nightmare in Dreamland, and Forgotten Land are all more interesting than this game.

Nothing much to say here. Kirby: Planet Robot is just another Kirby game. It's exactly what you would expect from a Kirby Game. Fun Levels, quirky powers and extraterrestrial beings to swallow and destroy. Sadly, I was unable to finish the True Arena, even with amiibo's and I can't be bothered to grind until I get it at this point in time. Poyo. Kirby is a small sweet guy, just like his games. It really does just feel like cramming sugar into your system for several hours. So how does Robobot stand up. I haven't played any Kirby games in my time (except for a bit of Superstar) so the formula hasn't stuck to me yet.The platforming aspect is rather too simple at times, when that isn't the core of the game despite probably being labelled as a platformer, because it boils down to a bit of timing and jumping, nothing special. But if you honestly look at the menu, you'll see what Kirby's really about, the powers. You're given abilities of insane variety and great strength to go with it. They work on inputs you can learn to control, normally holding directions and pressing, holding or mashing B, although there are more fun things to mess around with like storing jet power or potions or performing the fireball motion. They can shine to reflect on any play style, of all ranges, speeds and properties. I can't go talking about powers however without mentioning the selling point, Kirby as a mech. Robot God is insanely a powerhouse, with damage output that moves cannons and destroys massive 8-balls paired with the various modes Kirby can initiate. I think the most fun that lies in these games are the puzzles. There's standard in game reactions, damaging through walls, lighting fuses and charging ports. Robobot Armour adds another layer to the puzzles, allowing the movement of larger objects, notably the ice cream scoop frame. The remote control puzzles are really neat and in general the game raises awareness to the levels and their surroundings. If i had to file a complaint, stickers are straight up really lame, they offer barely noticeable cosmetics that don't do anything which can be a huge eye roll. Turning screws and cogs feels forced at times, essentially being glorified cut scenes. However I cannot touch this game when it has Meta Knight Returns, a supposedly harder version. I wouldn't say that but Meta Knight is a really fun character to play, his inputs are suited for everything, his powers can make you feel great, especially the speed buff and it's something else to explore levels with a fly instead of hover and disregard armour. A Kirby game that is something originally themed, great on a good day.Updated 3 Years Ago

There's just not a lot of charm in modern Kirby games anymore. The mechanical aesthetic in this game was very ugly, the levels felt like a chore to complete and there seemed to be a lot of reused ideas from Triple Deluxe. Sure, the final boss section was actually pretty fun and had some interesting lore but didn't make up for the snooze fest that the rest of the game was.Updated 3 Years Ago
